Fortis operative Drew Preedy had been told he wasn’t good enough all his life, and he’d battled to overcome the odds and create a new life for himself—a life he loves. When someone from his past threatens to destroy that life, Drew knows he needs to fight the odds once more. When he uncovers a secret that tears him to shreds, he will stop at nothing to protect what is his, even if it means dying … dying to protect the woman he loves.
Mara always thought she was a normal, average woman. She had a job she loved and friends she adored until she met a man who would change everything. He dragged her down into the depths of despair, surrounding her until she had no way out, and her spirit died more with every breath she took until she was ready to give up hope.
Then she met a wounded warrior who showed her what true love was but even he couldn’t stop the evil from dragging her back to hell. Now she has one last chance to escape and she takes it. Accepting the hand of friendship and the future that Drew offers her is a risk, but it’s one she knows she has to take.
Drew and Mara must find a way to let go of past hurts if they are to forge a future for themselves. With a dangerous enemy lurking in wait and ready to unleash a plan that could kill millions, they will have to fight harder than ever before if they want to survive long enough to see if their love has a chance.

Both Mara and Drew had a visceral connection when she was there to challenge him during rehab for his amputation. He was too lost in his head and self pity to do much about it. She eventually became the victim of torment andcabuse courtesy of her sadistic boyfriend. By the time she breaks free, courtesy of an unwitting Drew, he’s finally in the right headspace to seize the day, protect her and move to establish a relationship. Meanwhile Rhea Winslow resurfaces and Fortis delves even deeper into trying to put a stop to her sinister plans.
This series has it all I couldn’t put it down I’ve falling in love with them all highly recommend as a must read
Such a good book. I loved drew and have been waiting for his book for awhile. We have watched him grow and become quite the young man and operator over the series despite devastating blows by his family and the watchers/divine ones. Mara was awesome. Yes she was broken and beaten but she fought to survive and come back and never let her abuser and those who perpetuate the evil of the divine ones win. They were so adorable together. Loved them. They truly complemented and completed one another. Poor smithy, such sacrifice and then to still be willing to put it all in the line to help his friends and family was amazing. Loved the ending. So sweet.

Wounded Hearts will take you through the full range of emotions. Each installment in the series allows you to see the growth of the character and the team. However, Drew’s transition from a sad and emotionally wounded young man to loved and integral part of the Fortis team was such a beautiful thing to watch (or read). However, Drew and Mara’s story of two physically and emotionally wounded individuals coming together and helping to heal each other was even more so.
The overarching storyline of the shadow organization The Divine Watchers continues.
Mara and Drew get their story in this the 9th Fortis Security novel. As always in her unmistakable style Maddie Wade gives a sensational, action and emotion packed story. Drew finally gets the chance at his happily ever after with Mara but that is under threat by the man Mara has fled from and a very familiar, dangerous face for all members of Fortis Security. Up against it the team do what they do best and fight to save each other and the whole of mankind. I loved catching up with the rest of the team and the wonderful feeling of family comes through as it always does. An absolute favourite of mine, Fortis Security is a must read series. Highly recommended.
The main plot continues on through this series but each book gives us more clues and sometimes a few answers as we get closer to the climax, lots of twists and turns plus new characters being introduced and others making a re-appearance. This story is a mix of that with both new and previous characters. I love how the team support each other and have unconditional love for the family that is not just blood but built on mutual respect and friendship, I love that no one places blame on those that haven’t had a choice in some of the events that have happened along the way, or who they happen to share blood with. I also love that somehow despite everything they manage to sneak in a little romance in between all the investigating, protecting and researching. There is suspense and some action, even some strong emotional content that had me invested and gripped. My breathe caught in my throat a few times as I sat reading, wondering just what was being thrown at these guys next and just how they would manage to make it right again. I was worried about Drew before because of what had happened in a previous book, but he came across much stronger and more resilient, more focussed and also open to love. The author does a great job with consistency, keeping facts and events straight, she has the reader, or me at least coming back for more every time a new book comes out and that is a testament to how good the books are.
“…nobody walked away from him unless he wanted them too.”
This book covers are lot of hard, emotional topics. It is done in a way that will eventually give you a glimpse at empathy…you will see the heartache and the daily struggles it causes some. You will witness strength, courage, struggle, survival, heartache and healing.
“We all have our scars…yours do not define you. What defines you is the kindness you treat people with, the high standards you set yourself, your bravery in fighting back from what was done to you.”
I can not get enough of this growing family. I love the loyalty, friendship, compassion, adventure, strength and encouragement they all bring to the table. I love a strong woman and an alpha that struggles to bend to her. You will laugh, cry, fan yourself, want revenge and pray for self forgiveness.
“We’re family too, one made from sweat and tears rather than blood in some cases, but we’re still family in my book.”
Looking forward to the next release. Sacrred Sunrise can’t wait for Smithy to get his story.
I loved this story. Its one of those ‘linking’ books for when you’re in a series and you need to get to the next stage. Sadly, I can see the end coming and I just don’t want that to happen yet.
We get more of Drew and his past life which has been hinted at throughout the series. If you didn’t like Marcus before you certainly wont now!
There’s a great understanding of domestic violence. No, its not the same as real true life but Maddie’s understanding of losing babies and having PTSD from a different source is realistic and believable. Obviously, there’s a more Smithy and his PTSD but the we can wait for the next book to see how he gets through this. I can see him being the hero he’s supposed to be.
I loved the fact that we got some more hints to the supernatural, which hooked me into the series to start with, and I am excited to see how this ‘family’ deal with the evil that is back and planning to create chaos.
We’ve got more action, great drama, some good loving and the amazing storytelling and web weaving that Maddie is so good at.
I wouldn’t recommend reading this book on its own. At this point the story is moving fast and somethings will need a lot of explanation.
Thank you, Maddie, for the chance to support you and get a sneaky peak first
Holy smokes this book had me hanging on the edge of my seat. I absolutely love mara and Drew and was cheering when they got together finally but what a challenge for them and the team to stay safe and alive. This book has so many twist and turns and it keeps you hooked from page one until the end. Drew’s story has been worth the wait and I’m not ready for this series to end.
Wounded hearts is an awesome addition to the Fortis series. Drew and Mara’s story is sigh worthy. Maddie Wade told a story that ran the whole range of emotions. Wounded Hearts was very suspenseful, and I could not put the book down. I stayed up late to finish the book, but it was worth it. All of the characters are very endearing, and their stories have come a long way. There was a great happily ever after, and then the setup due the next story left my jaw dropping. I can’t wait for the rest of Smithy’s story!

I’ve waited for Drew’s story for what feels like forever. It was so worth the wait. Mara is the perfect woman for him!! It’s been great to watch him grow and mature from the boy he was when the series started, into the man he became in this book.
This was a great book!! I didn’t want to put it down. I know we’re getting close to the end of this series, and I just don’t want to see it end but at the same time, I want to know how it ends. I have loved every part of it. It just keeps getting better and better with each new book. Once again, the ending left me more than ready to see what’s in store for Smithy.
6 stars

Drew and Mara’s story has been eagerly anticipated by all Fortis fans because Drew has a little bit of all our hearts, we expected Maddie to find him a very special love interest and she didn’t let us down!
Mara is a total sweetheart, she’s been through so much, suffered greatly and has had to hide a terribly sad secret.
Drew comes back into her life just in time and although she’s almost broken beyond repair she recognises in him an empathy that encourages the healing process to begin.
Drew’s almost back to full fitness after a serious accident left him with a life changing injury, being unexpectedly reunited with Mara is the last cog that was needed to complete his recovery. His affection for Mara and his determination to protect her from further heartache spirals them into an exciting, fast paced adventure in true Fortis style.
Secrets uncovered, old enemies, new adversaries, plot twists and a firm favourite jumping back into the lions den, Wounded Hearts was a fantastic read and once again Maddie Wade has managed to write a gripping, page turning book.
Each book in this series captures your imagination and throws you into a world where heroes and heroines are inspirational role models, we all have our personal favourites but the Fortis team as a whole never let us down and Maddie makes sure we are left begging for more.
I will always recommend Maddie Wade’s books and Wounded Hearts is no exception, in fact, The whole Fortis Security Series is one I would highly recommend.
Wounded Hearts is the second to last book in the Fortis Security series by Maddie Wade, which means the storyline is heating up and fast.
Drew Preedy, the hero, is a character whose growth has been evident throughout the series. Starting out a very naive, sweet, but insecure young man who fought to earn his parents’ approval, and turning into a selfless, brave, and caring gentleman.
As the series progressed, I saw Drew become lost in his own anger and frustration that came from his toxic family; however, overcoming his challenges once again and finding peace in his mind, even after losing his legs in a mission. Despite this setback, he remained a hardworking operative, continuing to fight for others.
With his abilities hindered, Drew started his physical therapy, unknowingly meeting his soulmate Mara Kennett, a physiotherapist and our heroine.
However as quickly as she appeared in his life, she disappeared for a year soon after Drew’s sister’s wedding. While Drew was settled in his life and enjoying his job more than ever, the readers learned that Mara had a fiancé from before meeting Drew, a monster who she unfortunately fell in love with, a man that ripped everything from her and turned her life for the worst and who she feared but did not love anymore. Fortunately, Mara was able to escape her abusive relationship after Drew unexpectedly dropped into her life while on a job and finally set her free. As soulmates do, Drew and Mara reunited and reconnected, and in the end were given the love they deserved.
Alongside the Fortis family, these lovers fought together against the evil Rhea Winslow, a vile woman growing more dangerous and desperate.
As always, the Fortis team, their spouses, and their kiddos made this series something special and worth investing your heart into.
I cannot wait to see what Maddie Wade has in store for the readers in the series finale, but as this series has progressed, I am positive it will be worthwhile.
Mara was the prized possession of a cruel, sinister man named Brayden Wells. On the outside, he appeared the perfect fiancee, doting & charismatic. Behind closed doors however, he let his true self out to play – beating Mara for the slightest issue & controlling every waking moment of her life.
Mara becomes determined to escape the madman, waiting for the right moment. Fate intervenes when Drew & his team are security for a high profile socialite’s party which Mara is attending. Mara sneaks into the back of Drew’s car, escaping the cruel man. When Drew discovers Mara as his stowaway, he’s shocked at the difference in the beautiful woman he once knew. She’s become frail & her fiery spirit is almost completely burned out. Drew will do anything to keep her safe and he holds on to hope that she might be his to love on day.
Chaos soon descends on the couple & their relationship is put to the test. Will Mara trust Drew to save her?

I loved Drew & Mara’s story. After their unspoken chemistry in the story Paradise Ties: A Fortis Wedding Novella, I was so ready for these two to get their HEA! The epilogue was the perfect amount of sweet & heat. The last chapter was a great setup for Smithy’s story and I can’t wait!
