From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lorelei James comes a crossover story in her Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys® series… locks horns (and lips) with the sexy, sassy Callie—a 22-year-old cowgirl set on seducing him. Discovering their age difference doesn’t deter Callie; neither does Justin’s warning that she deserves more than a busted-up former rodeo cowboy.
From the moment Callie Morgan encounters the hot-as-fire new ranch hand, she knows his gruff manner is an attempt to mask his attraction to her. But she’s never backed down from a challenge, especially not when Justin’s actions speak louder than his denials. Callie doesn’t give a damn that he’s older than her or what others might think of their relationship. The uptight cowboy needs to relax and she’ll do whatever it takes to loosen him up, proving there are no age restrictions when it comes to lust…or to falling in love.

Wound Tight is a Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys crossover story by Lorelei James. I LOVED the cameo appearance by Jack and Keely and also the golf cart scene with Liam and Stirling from Justin and Callie’s perspective. Even though it is a crossover between the 2 series and I enjoyed revisiting old friends, it stands perfectly fine on its own.
Despite Callie being only 22, she’s mature beyond her age and the perfect match for Justin. The chemistry was there right from the start and the heat rolled off the pages between these 2. This story was sweet, romantic, fun and HOT all rolled into one. Another winner by Ms. James!
Holy Hotness!!! Definitely needed this sweet little story to liven up my week! I absolutely love all of the cowboys from Ms. James and this story does not disappoint.
Justin Donohue was introduced to us way back during Keely and Jack’s story. He is getting his happily ever after with Callie Morgan, who we met earlier during a McKay wedding…I absolutely adore having characters who show up in other stories and the way they are weaved in is magical.
Justin has been there, done that and is ready to settle in for the finish. He’s been burned by love and doesn’t know if he will ever find someone who just wants him for himself, not what he can give. Callie is a young, up and coming go getter who is going to make something of her life. But is she too young? Can Justin get past his past and find a future with her? Oh, yeah!!!! They just rock! I can’t wait for more stories from the Cowboys!!!!
I loved this fun, sexy, novella that had my falling in love from the very start. Wound Tight is a crossover that can totally be read as a standalone. While you will catch some glimpses of characters form the two series you will never feel lost in this story.
Justin and Callie have my heart and I couldn’t wait to see them find their happy. And holy HOTNESS! do they ever have some chemistry. This one will have you squirming in your seat. I highly recommend you pick this one up!
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
If you’ve never read Lorelei James this is a great way to break into her books. This short novella will give you a taste of how hot her scenes can be along with tension building and even a plot!
I like the 1001 Dark Nights books because they give you a taste of an author you’ve not read in a while, or even if you have it’ll catch you up on characters that haven’t had a story of their own yet. Wound Tight combines two of Lorelei James’ series so you get a twofer!
In this novella you’ll meet Justin and Callie. He’s 40 and she’s 22. Now some might turn their nose up at a book like this but trust me. It’s one you’ll want to read. They both have different life experiences despite their ages they do have quite a bit in common and off the chart attraction helps.
Take a walk on the wild side – check out Wound Tight and see if you just don’t fall in love with these two characters!
Hot cowboy and a sassy, sexy cowgirl in an engaging read
There’s something about a cowboy story that pulls me in every time, and nobody writes cowboys–or cowgirls–like Lorelei James. I’ve loved both her Rough Riders and Blacktop Cowboys series, so when I saw this crossover, I couldn’t snap it up fast enough. Note that while you don’t need to have read either series to enjoy this, long time fans like me will enjoy the references to events or characters from earlier books. This story takes place partly in parallel to Tripped Out.
I’m bad with names and it’s been a while since I’ve done a Rough Riders series re-read, so it took me a moment to remember where Justin fit in (for the other memory-challenged, he’s Jack Donahue’s brother, and former boyfriend, now brother-in-law, to Keely McKay Donahue). Justin was a bit of jerk at times, so I was happy to see that he’s grown up quite a bit (though he still has some issues to deal with), and I loved how the author tied Justin’s immaturity as a young man into the current storyline. I also loved how well thought out Callie’s background was: she might be young in age, but she’s had loads of responsibility for years, she’s used to taking care of herself and she has a clear, well-thought out plan in place for her life. In other words, she’s far more mature than Justin was at the same age, something that takes him a while to accept.
I’m not normally a fan of one character keeping a secret from the other for the majority of the story (I’m usually, “Just TALK to each other, already!”), but it made so much sense for the character here, I not only didn’t mind, I was so engrossed in the story I didn’t even think about it until I was writing this review. That’s how good of a storyteller this author is.
Hot cowboy and a sassy, sexy cowgirl plus heat, humor and a sweet HEA equals an engaging addition to two of my favorite series by one of my favorite authors. 5+ stars

Even if I hadn’t been all kinds of giddy at getting my hands on Wound Tight, that prologue would’ve grabbed hold of me and had me NEEDING to dive into it ASAP because Oh. Boy! I can’t recall the last time a prologue had me going “Oh. NO she/he (??? *BSEG*) didn’t!” the way this one did. It set the tone perfectly for Justin and Callie’s story and kept me turning the pages until there were no more words to devour.
I’ll readily admit that I never thought too hard over Justin Donohue. It’s not his fault that he was pushed to the sidelines thanks to the delicious smexyness that was the Glanzer and McKay men as well as his own brother, so when he showed up in Tripped Out it took me a minute to remember who he was and when I did, I wanted to know what he’d been up to all this time and I have to say that I honestly really liked the man. While he is a suspicious sort, understandable considering what he’s been through, he is a good man. He has a solid core of honor that keeps him grounded and charisma that makes him intriguing.
But the true start of the book was Callie. This woman is a force to be reckoned with. Life hasn’t been an easy one for her, but instead of making her cynical, it’s made her mature for her age and determined to achieve her dreams. She works hard and doesn’t mince words. Sassy, sweet and self assured, Callie has a vibrancy to her that pulls you in and doesn’t let go.
As far as Justin and Callie’s journey to their HEA goes, it was a fun and smexy one. The sexual tension between them was intense and their bantering was a lot of fun. I loved how well matched they were on every level and how, once a few issues were worked through, they came together and found that they were a perfect fit.
I’ve said this a million and one times, but I’m a huge #fangirl of the two series that have collided in this novella, The Blacktop Cowboys series & The Rough Riders series, so a portion of my enjoyment of this novella was getting to hangout a bit with Keely and Jack (All Jacked Up/RR #8), catching up with Breck and Cres, as well as doing a little reminiscing about the “good old days”.

It’s always a good day when I have a new book by Lorelei James to read! This story doesn’t disappoint. I liked Callie, she doesn’t play games and is pretty forthright in the way she lives her life. Justin was the definition of a hot cowboy but, unfortunately, very wary of people due to past experiences. Ms James can write very erotic scenes but they aren’t just about the mechanics of sex. The reader gets to know and care for each character, flaws and all. It was great to visit Jack and Keely again. Once you start reading anything by Ms James, you’re hooked!
I just finished this fabulous book. It was so much fun. I love the snappy dialogue. It is funny and tender and hot all at the same time. I loved this one
