Benjamin Porter is one of only two men allowed inside the women’s colony of Harper’s Station, Texas. A freighter by trade, he works closely with local shopkeeper, Victoria Adams, to transport the colony’s goods to market. But it is more than profit that keeps him coming back. He’s fallen hard for the shopkeeper and her son. Tori is brave, beautiful, and a savvy entrepreneur–the ideal partner not … not only for his business but for his life. Too bad she’s under the impression that a man, any man, is the last thing she needs.
Despite Ben’s consistent kindness, Tori continues to hold him at a distance. His towering height and muscular frame, while attractive, are also dangerous. And she’s faced dangerous men in the past and vowed never again.
After Ben convinces Tori to partner with him in a new venture, delivering goods to area farms and ranches, he finally has a chance to woo her in earnest. But when an accident derails his plans, what once was a chance at love may be lost forever.

So very powerful! Secrets and shame held Tori prisoner, but God’s timing, Ben’s patience, and a stranger’s understanding give her a second chance at life, and love!
My only complaint is that novellas are too short! I loved learning more about Tori and Ben, but I totally would have been okay with the story being longer too This story goes so well with No Other Will Do.
Short but good. We got part of Tori’s story in the first book and of course we knew how Ben felt going into this one BUT the actual getting together needed its own story. Love this series and these ladies are my heroes.
I absolutely loved it! I am a huge fan of Karen Witemeyer. It was a sweet clean romance. The characters were well developed and became like friends to me. I really appreciate the moral fiber of her books.
I loved this novella! If you haven’t read the first book in the series, you can still enjoy this story. I, however, had just finished reading No Other Will Do, so it was especially wonderful to get to read Tori and Ben’s story.
The author tackles some difficult topics regarding Tori’s past. It was interesting to learn more of her backstory and see more evidence of the noble and good man that Ben was.
I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Fantastic novella! Ben and Tori are both characters from the first book in Ms. Witemeyer’s series who I wanted to see get their happy “beginning” together and they did in this book. Though it was not easy to get there for either of them. Ben waited so patiently for Tori to come to a place where she could stop viewing him through the lens of her past. And Tori–Tori had lived in a prison created by haunting events from her past by keeping them buried deep rather than exposing them to the light of truth. It was such a wonderful thing to see Ben finally get Tori, who he loved with a fierce yet gentle love, and for Tori to be set free and to be able to live freely and begin to love someone other than her son freely. Loved it!
It was good and not good at the same time. I loved some of the author’s other books so much, I didn’t think that she could go wrong. I don’t fully like her Harper’s Station stories. They all have so much potential though. The female characters in this series have been made to be too manly, and even though mosty of the male characters start off manly, the female characters are allowed to push the males around without any complaints from the male characters. It’s a bit emasculating for the men. I love the male characters but I don’t love the female characters as much because they can be too self centered and unflexible with the male characters. This one wasn’t as emasculating as the other one’s in this series, so it was a lot better than the others.
