Skylar… run into his arms, kiss him and tell him I still love him?
No, I slugged him.
Jake…
I knew the day would come when I’d have to face Skylar. I made a decision years ago that I’ve always questioned. Always wondered if it was the right choice. I was torn between the woman lying in my bed and the best friend who was giving me the opportunity for a better life.
Skylar deserved better than me. I chose the Royal Bastards MC.
Now, she’s here, having been brought to the club for protection. Our reunion didn’t go as I imagined it would. There was no sweet embrace, no words even exchanged. She marched right up to me and punched me in the face.
I knew right then and there, I never stopped loving her. Thing is, the Royal Bastards have rules. I live and die by them. If I break them, I’m out. I’ll lose my patch and lose the family I have.
Is Skylar worth the risk?

HOLY HOT S*IT!!!! It seems like I’ve waited FOREVER for this book and I was not disappointed. Jake and Skylar’s story is so freakin GOOD! Jake, Hunter (Skylar’s brother) and Skylar have known each other for years and have always been close. When Hunter leaves home that leaves Jake looking out for Skylar and their relationship changes. Skylar has always been in love with Jake but he was her brothers best friend and didn’t think he thought of her as anything but a sister. Things change with them and then Jake suddenly leaves and Skylar’s devastated. After a few years Skylar and Hunter’s dad dies and Hunter comes back to Brewton and takes Skylar to Birmingham with him. It’s not a good thing when she learns that Hunter and Jake have been in Birmingham all this time not far from her at all. They have a lot to work through and a lot of fences to mend. Worth The Risk is definitely worth the time to read and I can’t wait to see what J.L. Leslie does next with this Chapter.
Damn I 100% fell in love with Jake, and a small part of me really likes Skylar too. I love second chance romances, and this one is one of my favs for sure. Skylar and Jake have this intense connection, one they are both willing to lose everything for. Absolutely loved the ending, i want more of these boys.
Holy smokes this book was absolutely fantastic and blew me away. J.L. absolutely knocked this one out of the clubhouse. Jake and Hunter have been friends all their lives ,but Hunter takes off and leaves his sister and father to prosprct for mc and several years later skyler and Jake can’t fight their attraction but one night was the best night and worst night for them both. Now 5 yrs later they’re all together but can skyler ever forgive her brother and Jake and will her fathers debts come back from the grave to end her ? This book was filled with so much emotions and chemistry and action-packed suspense. Absolutely cant choose sides. Love them both.
Loved everything about this book. From the writing to the characters. Oh let me tell you, you will fall in love with Jake and Skylar. They are both so full of heart. Just absolutely wonderful characters.
I’m hoping that the side characters get their own books. I very much want to hear their stories.
I read an advanced copy of this book.
Jake and Skylar fell in love as teens, but circumstances ripped them apart. When they reconnect they both are in very different places in their lives. While the love is still there can they get past everything else that is determined to keep them apart. Especially Skylar’s brother who is also Jake’s best friend.
What an emotion story! Jake and Skylar have had feelings for each for years, she is the sister of Jake’s best friend Hunter and they all grew up together. What they go through to be together is crazy. Will Hunter give them permission to be together? Read this book to find out, you won’t be disappointed!
Great story!
I will say I thought Jake was a you know what for just leaving Skylar. I don’t care what his reasons were, I wouldn’t have forgiven him as easily as she did. You know, if this was real life and I was her.
Assuming you can get over this transgression in the story (which I could), you will love this one!
This was a well written MC story involving Jake who is best friend to Hunter and Hunter’s younger sister, Skylar. Typical forbidden romance with a slight twist. Boy/man falls for best friend’s sister. I won’t lie, this is one of my favorite tropes!
I also enjoyed the supporting characters – especially Hunter and Bishop – and hope they get there own stories told later.
One click this one!
Wow! The Royal Bastards are my new favourite MC. Skylar and Jake are an iconic couple in my eyes, their story is full of twists and turns, hard work and tough decisions. They are both worth the risk to one another in every way, especially with the history they share. All the characters in this book have me craving more of the Royal Bastards. This MC takes loyalty very seriously, even with their less than on up and up practices, they are a tight knit family that respect and watch out for one another and it’s amazing. I can’t wait to hear hunters story I know I won’t be able to put it down, just like I wasn’t able to put this down. Amazing job J.L. Leslie!
2nd Chances
I purchased this book via Amazon and am leaving my review voluntarily. This is part of the multi-author Royal Bastards MC series.
Triggers:
kidnapping, assault, murder
Spoilers:
Skylar, feels abandoned by her brother Hunter and Jake, her first love. Supports her dad, who was shady and after he dies, she loses her home because of his gambling debts.
Jake, abused as a kid, went to live with his best friend Hunter. fought his attraction to Skylar until Hunter left. Then a late night call, has him leaving Skylar behind.
Some action. Sexy time. HEA
Not a bad story. I thought Skylar was a bit weak in the beginning, although towards the end I thought she was better. Jake and Hunter were typical MC guys.
I enjoyed Skylar and Jake’s story. A love that stands the test of time and separation. My first read by J L Leslie – well written and strong characters.
This author is new to me. I love MC romance, but weirdly enough, I haven’t read a lot of them. I am in a slump so trying to get into anything and have it keep my interest hasn’t been easy, but I devoured this book in one night.
In the beginning on the book it was kind of hard to keep up with what was going on. Some scenes would skip to somewhere else without notice. Like she’s in the living room, and all of a sudden she’s in the bedroom without saying she was going that way. Just little things like that that were a little off putting. I also really would have liked to see more back story from when they were younger. She mentions it, but I feel like I would have connected better with the characters if we had had some of those flash back scenes. It jumps into their now pretty quickly.
Because of some of these thing’s I wasn’t able to fully connect with the characters, but I did really like all of them and the MC family. The Royal Bastards MC was interesting. I loved the setting, but Worth the Risk definitely felt more character based than plot. Which isn’t a bad thing at all, there was just a little less action than I’m used to when reading an MC romance.
Like I said I was able to read this book in just a night, so it is a good quick read. The heat level is kinda medium.
Overall, it was a quick enjoyable read. There were a few things that I would have liked to see fleshed out a little bit more, but I did enjoy Worth the Risk.
I liked Skylar and Jake and the chemistry they had together but a few things about this book bothered me. I understand Hunter is her brother but she was way too easy on him for all the stuff that he did. If he were my brother I would have socked him in the face too. Hunters temper tantrum and behavior was annoying. I understand rules and code but come on after all the stuff you put your sister through wouldn’t you do anything to make her happy, especially with the person he trusts most. I loved the action in the book it kept me on my toes. I didn’t see the end coming. All in all the storyline was good and the characters were good. This book is worth reading.
Skylar lives at home with her ailing father and her brothers best friend Jake. Hunter her brother left home years ago, saying he had got a job so he could help their dad. Skylar’s 21st birthday, she finally gets Jake to see her as a woman and not Hunter’s baby sister. That very same night Jake receives a call and tells her he has to go. Fast-forward 6 years and Skylar is burying her father. Hunter shows up and demands she come with him. They arrive at the clubhouse and Skylar sees Jake right away, she walks up and punches him in the jaw. Jake immediately tries to help with her now hurting hand, only to get her seething anger for him leaving her just like Hunter did, and not only that but he left to join her brother. One of the club rules is nobody can date/do family members without club consent. Jake refuses to let Skylar go again and is willing to get kicked out. Hunter catches them sneaking around. He doesn’t want this life for his sister. Hunter and Jake end up brawling over it but love trumps all!! HEA!!
I received an advanced copy, in exchange for a voluntary and honest review
This is my first JL Leslie book and I must say I loved it. Hunter and Jake have been friends since childhood and Skylar always had a crush on her brothers friend. Jake never crossed the line until one night, he couldn’t keep his feelings inside anymore. The hardest thing he ever had to do was walk away from her. When Hunter needs Jake to help protect Skylar he knows he won’t be able to resist her, he still loves her after 5 years apart.
This book was well written and kept me turning pages, I can’t wait for more in this series. The little tidbits dropped about other members has my curiosity peaked!
This is my first time reading a book by this author. I absolutely loved it. I am now a fan.
It had the perfect amount of grit, intrigue, suspense, and of course romance. I can’t get enough of the Royal Bastards MC.
Worth The Risk is an intense, gripping and enthralling love story, with a lot of twists and turns that you can’t begin to imagine. It’s full of unconditional love based on letting go of one’s insecurities and having faith. It is about believing in love and life, a life that has broken their hearts and souls but that themselves can mend, and subsequently heal each other.
Once the story begins to unfold, it’s fast and keeps your wanting to know more. It’s impossible to not be wrapped up immediately in Skylar and Jake’s story.
You will not regret this book.
I voluntarily submitted an ARC review for this book.
This book is a great addition to the Royal Bastard Collection not on is J.L Leslie a new to me author she has quickly become a one-click author for me as well I freaking loved this book so much. I will be honest and tell I hated Jake for leaving Skylar and I didn’t give a damn as to why he did what he did to her, and honestly, I thought I was going to hate him though-out the book but he redeemed himself in the end. Great story
Jake Presley came into Skylar Baker’s life when she was seventeen. Her family took him in and she fell in love. Jake tried to resist Skylar but after her brother left and didn’t return on her twenty-first birthday he finally gave in to his desire.
Only in fiction does the brother call right after the deed is done and call Jake away from Skylar. Skylar is kept out of the loop as her brother hasn’t contacted her since he left years ago and now Jake disappears on her.
Five years later after her father’s death her brother shows up to take her to his club for protection and Jake and Skylar can’t turn off their attraction. An attraction that goes against the rules of club and could cause Jake to lose everything he’s known and cared about besides Skylar.
This is a likeable MC romance that ticks all the requirements for an MC story, but I’m not a fan of repeated delays of coming cleaning to the point it blows up in your face because the characters dicked around so long. He’s suppose to be a bad a$$ biker the repeated delays confronting Hunter after he decided to come clean didn’t ring true to Jake’s character.
If you like my reviews I hope you will follow my blog. https://wyldheartreads.wordpress.com/
Everyone remembers their first love and Skylars was Jake her brother Hunter’s best friend , they have one night Tolland he leaves her. Then years later she finally sees him again at the MC’s clubhouse and she decks him which I loved !!
These two have awesome chemistry but the club rules might just keep them apart .
Every one of these books just gets better and better
A new to me author and a fantastic addition to this MC!! This had me from the first chapter when my heart broke for Skylar and I could not then the pages fast enough!
Jake can’t believe that Skylar is back in his life and is determined not to let her go this time. But club rules, in more ways than one. And with danger following her, will it all be worth it?
Loved this!!!
