Skylar… run into his arms, kiss him and tell him I still love him?
No, I slugged him.
Jake…
I knew the day would come when I’d have to face Skylar. I made a decision years ago that I’ve always questioned. Always wondered if it was the right choice. I was torn between the woman lying in my bed and the best friend who was giving me the opportunity for a better life.
Skylar deserved better than me. I chose the Royal Bastards MC.
Now, she’s here, having been brought to the club for protection. Our reunion didn’t go as I imagined it would. There was no sweet embrace, no words even exchanged. She marched right up to me and punched me in the face.
I knew right then and there, I never stopped loving her. Thing is, the Royal Bastards have rules. I live and die by them. If I break them, I’m out. I’ll lose my patch and lose the family I have.
Is Skylar worth the risk?

Worth the Risk is totally worth the read! J.L. Leslie writes some of the best MC books! Five years ago, Skylar gave Jake everything and then he walked out without a word. Now, as her life seems to be crumbling, Jake is back. Great story line with some great characters!!!
Oh…my…Jake! Right from the get-go, you can feel the love between Jake and Skylar, and then – poof – what just happened? Jake is gone…Skylar is angry…and Hunter, Skylar’s brother & Jake’s best friend, is still nowhere to be found. After a devastating loss, biker bad boy Hunter comes to whisk his sister away to give her a new start. But lo and behold, who has been with Hunter this whole time? Jake! The angst that exists between these two is just insane…but oh so good! Jake is torn between the girl he left behind and his club, while Skylar just wants to be happy. I’m a sucker for a great MC story and J.L. Leslie has NEVER let me down in that department…but throwing in second chance and brother’s best friend and – Holy Sh*t – what a story! The author adds a great chapter to the RBMC franchise and gives us supporting characters that you can’t do anything except love. Will Hunter get rid of the chip on his shoulder? Where did Allie go? Will there be another addition from the Birmingham clubhouse? I HOPE SO!
I love how Skylar was written. she is strong, even after what she has been through and how the people who were supposed to have been there for her, just left her. The chemistry between her and Jake is undeniable but they have a lot to get through. I did have a hard time understanding why the club had these specific rules in place seeing as though Jake and Skylar had already known each other. But it did help with the tension and drama. One Royal Bastards story you don’t want to miss!
Real, raw emotional and brilliant; Worth the Risk says it all. In this beautiful story we get an emotional sister’s best friend story, all the love and angst one could ask for all with in the dynamic world of the MC club. This story was an amazing read and a wonderful start to a new series. One of my favorite reads of tge last few weeks, this story is definitely worth reading. 5 stars.
I really enjoy the Royal Bastards MC series. There are lots of chapters around the world with bikers that live by the same code: Brotherhood/Family First, Loyalty, Honor the Patch and Protect what’s theirs. Some chapters, as the Birmingham chapter, have added rules as in Never cross the line with a fellow bikers family. This was one rule Jake never thought he’d have a problem with. That is until she walked through the clubhouse door. His best friend’s sister – the girl he spent one unforgettable night with then walked away.
Skylar has lived with heartbreak. First her brother/best friend (Hunter) walks out of her life saying he’s going to do what he has to do for her and their dad. Then on her 21st birthday the guy that’s been the star of her dreams, Jake, finally sees her as a woman. But right after taking her virginity, Jake gets a call from her brother and he too walks away leaving her alone in her bed. After 5 years of struggling trying to keep a roof over her and her dad’s head, with little word from her brother and none from Jake, her father dies. Now she is left with no one and is being evicted from her family home due to her father’s hidden actions. On the day of the funeral Hunter arrives and forces her to return to the Royal Bastards Clubhouse with him. But the biggest devastation of all is when she walks in and sees Jake sitting at the bar – a member of the RB just like her brother.
From here the story takes off. Troubles follow – Can Hunter and Jake keep Skylar safe? Can Jake stay away from the only woman he has ever cared for or will he break the club rule and risk his place with the Royal Bastards – the only place he’s ever felt like he had a home? When the truth of their disappearance from Skylar’s life comes out will it cost both men her love?
This is an awesome read that I highly recommend grabbing up. 2 Thumbs Up and 5 Stars.
This beautiful easy to read brothers best friend Mc romance had me hooked from the first page. Many years of holding back on their feelings for each other comes proper long to one moment jake gives into temptation. But as quick as a flash he disappears and they don’t see each other for five years. When her father passes away her brother reappears and thrusts her into a life of Mc surrounded by the people he has been with since he left her. When Jake sees the woman she’s become all the feelings he has been holding onto resurface but is breaking the rules to be with the love of his life worth the risk. This book had me wanting more and I read this book in one reading because it has everything you need sweet, steamy, with unexpected moments, swoon worthy with a side of alpha. It had me wanting more from the characters
that appear. I could read this book over and over again.
* I received an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review *
The first book in the Birmingham Chapter of the Royal Bastards. This is for my book for not only the Royal Bastards but also for author J.L. Leslie. MC Romance is one of my favorite tropes, so I tend to be a bit pickier when it comes to these books.
I am also a fan of second chance romances so I was excited when I saw I would be getting two tropes I love. I wish Skylar and Jake had more of a relationship in the past. While I know it was monumental either way when he left, I think it would have made the betrayal bigger. While I was still upset for Skylar with how it went down, I just thought Hunter and her father’s betrayal was bigger and she seemed to forgive them almost automatically.
I still do not understand why Jake and Hunter felt the need to keep everything so secretive from the beginning. Skylar knew Jake’s home life was not good so if he wanted to get away because he was living on the street most days, I think she would have been selfish to be mad at that. I hate that they kept what her father did a secret from her but left her there to deal with it. Just did not make sense that they had to completely cut her off from contact from them both.
I cannot lie the chemistry between them was intense. You could feel the attraction from the moment they saw each other. Every time they were around each other I would be hoping they would finally act on it. When it finally happened…it was hot! I hated that Jake kept putting off talking to Hunter, but I do not think it mattered because no matter what he said he was not happy about it.
It was a good story, but it seemed a little too “nice” for me. Do not get me wrong there were violent situations, but something was just missing for me. I also wish we got to see them in a relationship out in the open. Overall, a good read but it just did not draw me in as I would have liked.
Worth the Risk
So…Jake is best friends with Skylar’s brother, Hunter….When they are 17, Hunter convinces his family to take Jake in from his neglectful, abusive parents…Hunter leaves Skylar and Jake…without a word, without a call, without a glance back…After Jake and Skylar fall in love, Hunter convinces Jake to join the Royal Bastards MC…and Jake leaves Skylar, too…..
Fast forward five years….Skylar is burying their father, when Hunter and his MC brothers show up at the cemetery….Hunter believes Skylar is in danger, and takes her back to his clubhouse…Skylar is angry and hurt…by Hunter and Jake…but that love is still there….Too bad the club has rules about fraternizing with other brothers’ family members unless the family member approves and supports it…Hunter doesn’t….So, Jake has to decide who or what is more important..RBMC or Skylar….
WORTH THE RISK is JL Leslie’s addition to the Royal Bastards MC series, and it’s a good one..I loved Skylar and Jake…and Hunter…Good characters, good chemistry, good story, good ending…..It’s a good book…
I have loved all of the Royal Bas**rds books and J.L. just kept the streak going. Skylar and Jake are so hot together that you know it will blow up. The danger that Skylar has no idea about has her brother and Jake coming back after 5 years. She is mad and not afraid to show it. This is a do not miss book.
What a great book! J.L. Leslie always pulls you in with her stories and makes you not want to put your book down until you have finished. This one didn’t disappoint at all — it has all the MC brotherhood, angst of a second chance romance, the danger, and to add in the suspense it was perfection. I loved how strong the characters were, especially Skylar! It is so refreshing to have that strong heroine that isn’t going to let people walk all over her and makes Jake work for her after how he left things. An amazing intro to this series, I can’t wait to get more of these men!
This book was very well written and had me gripped the whole time I was reading.
Talk about a page turner.
Loved skylarks character… such a positive female presence. She is strong and not afraid to fight for what she wants.
Jake and Skylar have awesome chemistry. Love how their story evolves.
Great read… hoping for more in this series.
I was given an ARC but voluntarily chose to review
What a great book. I highly recommend this book. It’s one of the best MC books I have read in a while. The author did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. Five stars from me.
Intense page turner that had me on the edge of my seat!! A definite must read!!! Jake and Skylar are unforgettable characters that you fall for and root for them and their love! Great storyline! I loved how each character was portrayed. I always love a strong minded female lead who perseveres!!! And I love how secondary characters stand out as well in a story. Very well written. Kudos!!!!
The last person Skylar thought she would see at her father’s funeral was her brother. The same brother who walked out of her life and never returned. To make things even worse is that Jake, the one man who she has loved forever is also with him. But the reunion is made even more troubling when Skylar finds out they have both been part of a MC. When the MC becomes her new “family” the spark that is still between Jake and Skylar is now something that is not allowed. Will Jake give up the “family” to stay with Sylar? Or will the danger that surrounds Skylar be the one thing that drives them even closer? Awesome characters and an edge of your seat storyline make this a book that the reader should not miss. This was my first book by J.L. Leslie and it willnot be the last.
Another amazing book. So easy to call in love with these characters. Jake and Skylar grew up together and Skylar knew growing up that she was in love with her brothers best friend. And having to fight the attraction was hard. They finally gave into the attraction but the same night Jake gets a call amd leaves her. Skylar adn Jake reunite after her father dies and Hinter steps into help Sklar. Can these two keep fighting their attraction or will they give in knowing it will hurt Hunter?
I believe this author’s writing just keeps getting better and better! She writes a very emotional story starring Jake and Skylar. They fall in love as teens her being Jake’s best friend’s sister but they get torn away from each other. When they reconnect they both are at very different places in their lives. Well the same chemistry from their teens still be present? Will the forces that with them from each other still be present? Will Jake’s best friend, Hunter give them his blessing? I can’t wait for more of this MC’s drama to unfold!!
