Not all fairy tales are as simple as meeting your handsome prince and living happily ever after. Nobody knows this better than Rebecca Sharp. She thought she met her prince at the tender age of eight. As their friendship grew stronger, childhood infatuation culminated into a desire for romance. But untimely circumstances shattered Rebecca’s dreams of true love and left her broken and alone. A … fresh start was the only way she could close the door to her painful past. Now, harboring her own dark secret, Rebecca has returned home to attend her ten-year class reunion, mostly to prove she isn’t afraid to see Jackson again.
Jackson Strickland had his own secrets, but his love for Rebecca wasn’t one of them. Tormented by the memories of the only girl he ever loved, his life spiraled out of control. When Rebecca unexpectedly returns, his life is shaken even more. No longer the young girl he remembered, she was a strong and beautiful woman. Despite his bitterness, he can’t resist her or the fire in his heart that’s been smoldering for the past ten years. But secrets from his past still haunt him and danger looms as a killer lurks.
Will they be able to overcome their past and risk everything for love?

Worth the Risk is an eloquently written debut novel with it’s words effortlessly flowing and weaving into a sweet, spicy, and suspenseful romance. Detailed, and descriptive, this book will easily draw you in and sweep you up in it’s southern charm. With an overall solid start, I’m looking forward to more from this author!
This is the first for this author so I guess you could say her debut. Girls and their fairytales, me personally liked Grimm’s better. I was intrigued when I seen the word Southern since I live in the south. In this we meet Rebecca whom thought she had her prince but then she was only 8 when it started and then it grew. Then life usually has a way of changing the course sometimes of what dreams are made of. Alas though it did break her heart. Now sometime has past and that pesky ole class reunion is looming with grown up Rebecca having a dark secret (oh yeah). Then there is Jackson the prince of this tale whom the key to his heart has been given away and the holder has come back. Oh boy second chance here it comes so we eagerly follow these two and see who’s secret is bigger and a killer spices the plot. You do have to see what and where this all goes and does the prince get the princess after all this time.
I received an ARC of this book from the author and am leaving an honest review.
A beautifully written and an amazing read by Ms Davis. Action packed, romance, suspence, emotional and mystry this book has it all.
Wonderful debut novel from author Shannon Davis. I especially loved how descriptive she wrote about living in the Florida panhandle! This is an epic love story told from childhood and revisited as adults, full of trauma and questions, but with a happy ending!
Worth The Risk was unexpected in the best way possible. Shannon Davis is a new author and as far as debut novels go this one was fantastic. The moment I started reading I was sucked into the story and this one will take you on an emotional ride.
The book is split into two different parts. The first part starts when Rebecca and Jackson are eight and instantly become best friends and continues until they are seniors in high school. Their friendship is precious and seeing that progress into more for the both of them was beautiful and sweet, however, despite feeling love for each other neither of them could fully show the other. The second part of the book jumps ahead ten years and it is their high school reunion. What happened during that ten year span is explained and is just as emotional as the first part.
I love these characters. Rebecca is strong, she is fighter and after learning everything she experienced I have so much respect for her, but I also just want to give her a hug. Jackson, my heart broke for him throughout the entire book. For everything he experienced as a child, to the struggles he has to continue to face as an adult. However, even after ten years have passed the chemistry and connection between Rebecca and Jackson is strong.
Worth The Risk is a beautifully written and emotional journey with a hint of mystery and suspense that will have you falling in love with Rebecca and Jackson from the start. A MUST READ!
I love the natural southern charm in this book and how it starts to pull you into the story from the very beginning. It’s a wonderful read, be sure to add it to your must read list!
This is Shannon Davis’ debut book and I just say that she started with mastery.
This book left me with a roller coaster of emotions.
The first part of the story shows us how Rebecca Sharp and Jackson Strickland met at the age of eight and how their relationship developed from a childhood friendship to a desire for romance. While dealing with the feelings that arise, Jackson also needs to deal with the problems he faces at home, but luckily he has all the support of his grandmother Ruby, who is a fantastic character.
When a tragic event disrupts all of Rebecca and Jackson’s dreams and plans, they are left with broken hearts.
Ten years later, Rebecca returns to town to attend her ten-year class reunion and when she and Jackson meet again, they both need to understand the feelings that still exist between them, as well as clarify everything that happened in the past. At the same time, they need to face a threat that can put everything to waste.
I loved the story and the characters. I highly recommend the reading.
Worth the Risk is set in Florida and steeped in southern charm and quirky characters.
Jackson and Rebecca meet as children and the first part of the book covers the ten years leading up to their leaving school.
Tragedy strikes and they are separated.
The second part skips ahead ten years. Rebecca is back for her high-school reunion and she needs to face Jackson again.
Bit by bit, the events during the intervening ten years are uncovered while Jackson and Rebecca deal with seeing each other again. A lot (maybe too much?) was packed into the short time frame and I felt their HEA happened too easily and too quickly.
That said, the author’s style is detailed and descriptive, loaded with small-town charm and folklore, and worth the read. Pun intended.
Well done, Shannon Davis, on your debut novel.
Is love worth the risk? Something that challenges us all. Rebecca and Jackson meet as 8-year-olds and become best friends. Their journey is a great example of finding the one at a young age but even though you found your soulmate, whether you end up together is never a sure thing. I enjoyed how this friendship built allowing each friend to be the ‘rock’ for the other when needed. They are a perfect complement to each other. But life is never easy and pulls them apart. When they do reunite, will that love still burn? Has there been too much hurt to allow forgiveness? I don’t want to give away any of the ups and downs. This couple kept me guessing and enthralled as they navigated what life challenged them with. There are a few moments for me that resolved a little too easily but nothing that took away from the ultimate journey. Dive in and see if you get swept away into Rebecca and Jackson’s love. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Worth the Risk is a childhood friends to lovers story. I had a hard time getting into the story and staying there. I can’t pinpoint exactly what was the problem was. At times it felt like there was just too much detail, but other times not enough. I did like Jackson and Rebecca and seeing how their relationship evolved. I thought that Worth the Risk was a okay, emotional read.
