It is time for the yearly Fourth of July celebrations in Sweetfern Harbor. Sheffield Bed and Breakfast is buzzing with guests. Most have arrived at the Inn to compete in the road race. Others are there to enjoy the wares of vendors and other celebratory activities.
Chatter in the Gathering Room includes the subject of artworks. Chase Bailey, the only older guest, discusses his love of art. Maya … art. Maya Morgan brings up the famous art heist from the museum a few years ago. Several join in with information they read in newspapers and heard on TV at the time. Chase tells them the thieves are serving prison sentences, but the paintings have never been recovered. Conversations move to the upcoming road race. One guest leaves the room quietly seen only by her boyfriend who came with her.
Sheffield Bed and Breakfast has made their yearly entry in the float. The theme for all floats is nautical. Brenda Rivers is excited to get a last look before the parade begins. She and Mac, her Detective husband, help maneuver the float in line while the road race is nearing the end. Brenda is anxious to hear if one of her guests wins the race. After the parade, she joins her good friend and Head Housekeeper Phyllis Pendleton at Morning Sun Coffee Shop. It is there they hear rumors that one racer has vanished. Phyllis’ daughter Molly, Owner of the shop, tells them she doesn’t know the name of the missing runner, but there is someone who didn’t show up at the finish line.
Brenda is dismayed when she discovers that one of her guests who is a star athlete is not only the missing runner but has been found dead a few yards into the woods from the race route. She observes all guests closely. Most of them feel fearful when one mentions that the murderer may be among them. Brenda and Mac narrow the suspect list to three people, and all are their guests. When one checks out secretly, suspicions grow. The more Brenda learns, the more she wonders if the art heist of several years ago is in any way connected to the murder of the runner. Above all, she is determined to find the killer as soon as possible.

I love Wendy Meadows books. She’s a great author and I’m never disappointed!
I really enjoy reading books by Wendy Meadows. The Sweetfern Harbor series have characters that are thoroughly thought out and well developed. The characters that decided to stay at the bed & breakfast seemed to be more intertwined than in other books, but that made it harder to determine the culprit in the end.

Another fun read where we have to guess which guest is the murderer and why, I love how you pretty much suspect each guest as you go along until you finally find out who the killer really is. I love watching Brenda and Mac work through the clues and really do think the police would be lost without Brenda and Phyllis at times.

Another enjoyable read in this series. This time it is the Independence Day road race, boat race and assorted celebrations. During the 5k road race Lauren Mitchell goes missing and is later found murdered in the woods. Brenda and Mac are investigating and feel all of their guests are not telling the entire truth. They eventually nab the killer and all is safe – for the moment.

I’m new to the Sweetfern Harbor series and was pleasantly surprised by the cast of characters at the Sheffield B and B.
The book was a short, quirky fun read that was just what I needed this week!
The storytelling from different perspectives was new but a nice way to ponder the outcome.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes humorous, twisty cozies with just enough suspense to keep you guessing!

Independence Day has come to Sweetfern Harbor with activities, including a 5K race, for both residents and tourists to enjoy. As always, Brenda Rivers’ Sheffield B&B is packed with quirky visitors who have come to partake of the festivities. However, when a guest goes missing, Brenda puts on her investigators hat and joins her husband, Detective Mac Rivers, to find out what happened. Is it possible that the past has something to do with the current crime? I love Brenda and Mac’s relationship as well as her relationship with her friends and employees. I love this cozy mystery series and I highly recommend this one by Wendy Meadows.

This was a good quick read. I always enjoy visiting The Sheffield Bed and Breakfast where something exciting is always happening.
The B&B is hosting racers for a big 5k running event plus boat races at the 4th of July celebration. When one of the guest mention she may know another guest and something about an art heist, rumors start to fly. Brenda thinks nothing about it. Then after the race a guest goes missing. She is later found dead. Now Brenda and Mac must find out what, why and who killed her.
I love how Brenda is so welcomed to help solve the crimes. They even look to her for answers. I love that trust they have for her.

Everyone is excited for the annual Fourth of July celebration, this year they are having a race that has brought in even more people to the quaint little town. There is also the annual float exhibits and many vendors in town. Most of the guests at the Sheffield Inn are here for the road race. The race starts and everyone is excited to see the outcome. But the outcome isn’t what anyone saw coming…one of the racers is missing and this racer is also a guest at the Inn. The body is found later off the road murdered. There is more than a race that is going on here. There is also some old artwork that is involved. Can they find the person responsible? You will need to read the story to see how things go down. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Booksprout.
It is time for the Independence Day Celebration in Sweetfern Harbor. The Sheffield Bed and Breakfast has filled up with many guests, most of which are there for the 5K road race. Others were there for the vendors and food. Detective Mac Rivers and his wife, Brenda, were the owners of Sheffield Bed and Breakfast. Their guests were varied — Lauren Mitchell, a bank officer and competitive athlete; Ryan Parker, owner of a fitness center; Maya and Simon Morgan, owners of a herbal farm; Noah Reed, stockbroker; Paige Collins, an actress and Chase Bailey, the oldest of the guests.
Talk in the Gathering Room turned to an art heist from a few years ago. There are secrets in the group. Lauren is the daughter of the owners of the art that was never recovered. Paige has changed her last name because she is the daughter of the thieves. What are the odds they would both be in Sweetfern Harbor and the same time and place.
When Lauren never crosses the finish line in the race, Mac and his son-in-law, Detective Bryce Jones start the search for her.Brenda and her head housekeeper and friend, Phyllis Pendleton, join in to find Lauren. When Lauren’s body is found, the search becomes an investigation for her killer.
The story is fun, a quick read. I love the characters in this series. There is one character in the book that I couldn’t figure out who he was or why he was there.
A great book for those who enjoy cozy mysteries. I received an advance copy from Booksprout. This is my honest review.
Wendy Meadows’ WORST RACE SCENARIO is another installment in her Sweetfern Harbor Mystery series and another enjoyable afternoon read. It has a great blending of characters, murder and suspense. The twisted mind of the killer, the intrigue and suspense make this a good mystery and sure to capture your interest from the beginning.

Brenda Rivers is excited at the events planned for the 4th of July celebration. The B&B was full of guests and she and her Detective husband, Mac, get the float lined up as the 5K race finishes up. They hear something about one of the race participants being missing and she her body is found later in the woods around the race route.
Brenda and Mac start their investigation which focuses on three of their guests. It is also possible there is a connection between the death and an art theft from several years ago. Will they find the killer and why the runner was killed?
I love cozy mysteries, and it’s fun when the detective lets his wife join the investigation! Join Brenda and Mac as they “race” to find out who murdered the runner and why!
My favorite characters and some new ones.Yeah! This is #18 in this series so that just goes to show how much readers like it. you can’t go wrong with any Wendy Meadows book.
Betrayal is a bitter pill
A story full of twists and turns leaves everyone stunned as a terrible murder occurs during a short marathon run. As the police investigate things become painfully clear. Sometimes it’s the ones we trust the most that turn out to be our deepest and darkest enemies. A fantastic read, once again, by a fantastic author! Well done!
This was a quick, fun read. Love the characters of Sweetfern Harbor and always enjoy spending time with them. This time they are celebrating their 4th of July with a 5k race and a parade. When one of the entrants to the race disappears Brenda has to join in the search and help solve the mystery. Really good read!

Sweetfern Harbor had their annual 4th of July celebration. This year most of the guests at the Inn are running in the race. They are again a mix of very friendly and private people. While running the race, one guest goes missing. No one really seems concerned about her disappearance, including her husband. Mac, Bryce and Brenda do find her body however and that starts the murder investigation. They do eventually solve it. I can’t wait for the next book in this series

This is the first book I’ve read in this series. Worst Race Scenario – book 18. I received an ARC from Booksprout. At first the writing style seemed a little too “clinical.” The story wasn’t told from any one person’s perspective, which I’m use to in the different cozy mystery series I read. I came to appreciate the style because I could “hear” several characters’ perspectives. I also realized this was a little different than other cozy mystery series I read because it was a much shorter book. About 3/4 of the way through the book I learned to appreciate it for what it was for me, a quick read with an interesting mystery to follow. Once I accepted it for what it was, I really enjoyed following the story. There were many characters, new to this particular book, that had to tell about themselves, so it was kind of fun being the nosy person hearing their life story in a couple of pages each. The book kept me guessing who the murderer was, so that was good. I will definitely pick up another book in this series. I’m even going to jump around and not start at the beginning of the series. I would recommend this book.
