#1 New York Times BestsellerIn 1989, Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, a sweeping epic novel set in twelfth-century England centered on the building of a cathedral and many of the hundreds of lives it affected. World Without End is its equally irresistible sequel—set two hundred years after The Pillars of the Earth and three hundred years after the … of the Earth and three hundred years after the Kingsbridge prequel, The Evening and the Morning.
World Without End takes place in the same town of Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building the exquisite Gothic cathedral that was at the heart of The Pillars of the Earth. The cathedral and the priory are again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge, but this sequel stands on its own. This time the men and women of an extraordinary cast of characters find themselves at a crossroads of new ideas—about medicine, commerce, architecture, and justice. In a world where proponents of the old ways fiercely battle those with progressive minds, the intrigue and tension quickly reach a boiling point against the devastating backdrop of the greatest natural disaster ever to strike the human race—the Black Death.
Three years in the writing and nearly eighteen years since its predecessor, World Without End is a “well-researched, beautifully detailed portrait of the late Middle Ages” (The Washington Post) that once again shows that Ken Follett is a masterful author writing at the top of his craft.

I enjoyed all the books in this series about the Middle Ages.
Great read!
One of my favorite series
Like saga,characters
No wonder why Ken Follett is one of my favorite writers! It guides you to the lives of many different people with different personalities, ambitions and stories, cleverly intertwined, giving deep insights of how living in the middle ages was for people at different social classes and how they related to each other. As if that wasn’t enough, everything is delivered in such a way that you can’t guess what will happen next and keeps you entertained and glued to your book until you finish it. It was a long, worthy read that reminded me of another great book, “Les Misèrables”, by Vícotr Hugo.
I love the Ken Follett series! The characters are so engaging and it’s really interesting to follow them through the years and gain an understanding of the politics and wars that were going on at the time. Great historical fiction!
Love Follett but, didn’t care for this one. ” Book Without End”.
I read the book just before embarking on a trip to the Alps. While visiting the village of Hall, Austria I could better see the effect of the churches on the local population and how the common person might have lived. My journey brought life to the book and it’s story.
Well written, holds your attention, hard to put down
Great story flows and keeps you reading
Makes you want to keep reading.
Could not put it down.
This was a series and each book well worth the read. Ken Follet is a fantastic author.
I enjoy the historical fiction.
I love this series. I couldn’t put it down Ken Follet does a great job of telling what life was like in those times.
Historical fiction at its finest. Highly recommend.
“World Without End” is a historical, towering tale. I found myself engrossed in each of the lives of these characters, and the cathedral. Intrigue, secrets, power, and good versus evil—all set against a backdrop of medieval England. Once I descended into the pages of this story, I did not want to return to my own world.
A great story; we need more like it!
very interesting
This is a book for history fans, but it is lackluster compared to Pillars of the Earth, it’s predecessor. I think the author should have resisted a sequel. Pillars was fascinating with very compelling characters, this second book is disappointing.
