#1 New York Times BestsellerIn 1989, Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, a sweeping epic novel set in twelfth-century England centered on the building of a cathedral and many of the hundreds of lives it affected. World Without End is its equally irresistible sequel—set two hundred years after The Pillars of the Earth and three hundred years after the … of the Earth and three hundred years after the Kingsbridge prequel, The Evening and the Morning.
World Without End takes place in the same town of Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building the exquisite Gothic cathedral that was at the heart of The Pillars of the Earth. The cathedral and the priory are again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge, but this sequel stands on its own. This time the men and women of an extraordinary cast of characters find themselves at a crossroads of new ideas—about medicine, commerce, architecture, and justice. In a world where proponents of the old ways fiercely battle those with progressive minds, the intrigue and tension quickly reach a boiling point against the devastating backdrop of the greatest natural disaster ever to strike the human race—the Black Death.
Three years in the writing and nearly eighteen years since its predecessor, World Without End is a “well-researched, beautifully detailed portrait of the late Middle Ages” (The Washington Post) that once again shows that Ken Follett is a masterful author writing at the top of his craft.

Read this after Pillars of the Earth, which I thought was a tremendous book. Not quite as good, in my opinion, but still enjoyable, and I’m looking forward to the reading the third book of this trilogy.
Another great book.
I found this one difficult to read. Enjoyed other Follett books much more.
Excellent, not disappointed
This is an amazing book! Love the way you’re drawn into the characters lives.
One of my favorite books of this year – comparable to “Pillars of the Earth”.
A must if you read Pillars of the Earth first! One of my favorites. I learned so much about how different classes of people lived in those early British days.
A great read!
I love Ken Follett books!
Loved this book!
This third book in a great historical trilogy, represents Ken Follett at his best. He is the best at developing characters that immediately capture your interest. In this case several families who we get to follow through the lead into and after two world wars! Follett certainly lived up to my lofty expectations.
One of the best books I’ve ever read.
I found it far too wordy and overlong, plus a bit cliche and clunky. I forced myself to the end but would not read another.
Love his work!!!
Great writing in historical fiction.
Great historical content.
I loved this book as much as his Pillars of the Earth. It had everything I like in a book: great characters, a complex engaging plot, an interesting look at another time, well researched historical fiction, romantic relationships were original, rather than “cookie-cutter”. Just don’t expect to get anything done once you start! (Warning: it’s long)
great book, read entire series. Follett’s best
Well written, engaging, not too graphic – I will definitely read more Ken Follett
Ken Follett never fails to write a quality story!! Can’t wait to read the next installment but do wish digital books could be cheaper!!
