Jamie Cook is a work-in-progress. He’s always wanted what his parents have: a good marriage, lots of kids, and financial security. He thought he’d have the first two with his ex-girlfriend while the third would come once he got his house-flipping business off the ground. When his ex doesn’t subscribe to his five-year plan, he makes Cook Brothers Construction his sole focus. Then he moves next … moves next door to April Williams, a sassy single mom he can’t stop riling up. Throw in her matchmaking mother-in-law, who’s set her sights on Jamie being April’s knight in a leather tool belt, and a house threatening Jamie’s sanity, and it should be a recipe for disaster, but Jamie wants this three-month project to last forever. That’s if he can stop being the neighbor from hell and prove to April he’s not just flipping a house—he wants to flip her heart.

BJ Harvey continues to amaze me with her ability to write these amazing stories with characters that are genuinely interesting. They are characters that I continually enjoy reading about and the storyline of this authors books are always keeps me engaged from start to finish. Work in Progress is the first book in this new series that was full of banter, romance and sexy moments throughout the story.
April was the strong heroine of the story that did everything for her son. it is really admirable the way she puts others before her and I love the way that she keeps Jamie on his toes.
Jamie is the hot hero of the story that i absolutely loved from the first moment we meet him in the story. He is strong, protective and respectful towards April and her son.
I really loved this story and the characters within the story. I found that each character in the story was amazing that added to the story. I cannot wait to read the next story in this new series.
Right from the start of this book, I knew I was going to love it. Jamie, his brothers and friends are all the right kind of men.
I have been looking forward to this spin-off series, and Ms Harvey has definitely not disappointed.
This is a delightfully delicious start to the Cook County series, and you cannot help but fall for Jamie Cook and his brothers. April is a strong, kick ar$e woman who doesn’t need anyone’s pity or help, but can’t help but want Jamie.
There is a 6 year old who will take your heart and never give it back to you. Oh. My. Lord they made me want to have kids! Or at least move in next door!
Though there are sparks from chapter 1, it is a bit of a slow burn as April and Jamie take their time to get to know each other. I love their fun and flirty banter. You will fall in love along with them.
Full of wonderful characters, some that we know, some whom are new to us, it is going to be exciting as we learn more of their stories in the future.
Please don’t keep me waiting too long for more, Ms Harvey.
I really liked Work in progress the story drew me in from start to finish liked how the characters meet and interact with one another. Not only were the the main characters likable but the the secondary ones were really lovable and I hope to see more from them in future . Jamie is adorably hot loved how he is with the heroine and her son along with his siblings . I’m really excited to read more by the author and more of the Cook County series .

This is one of those rom-coms that let me escape from the world for a few hours.
I felt invested in WORK IN PROGRESS from the very first page. For me, it was the perfect combination of good friends, great family, a hot next door neighbor and a precocious kid named Axel.
Not only are the main characters well developed, the secondary characters sucked me in and I will absolutely be adding the future installments of this series to my TBR.
This book gave me all the feels….ALL OF THEM!
It was laugh out loud funny, sweet, sexy and an all round great read.Worthy of every one of it’s five stars.
I loved this book and can’t wait to read a out the rest of the Cook clan.
Work in Progress is the first novel in the Cook County Series. I thought the story was easy read, full of laughs, drama, family, and abit of angst. Right now I’ve been into watching home renovations shows, so I knew this was right up my alley. If you like a hot renovation guy, his band of brothers for comic relief, a take no sh*t nurse, and her adorable son, this book is for you. It was so amusing that I read it in a couple of hours. I enjoyed it!
Work In Progress is a really fun, light hearted, easy to read rom-com featuring a single Mum, and her gorgeous house flipping neighbour. Bit of a slow burn romance, with lots of banter and chemistry between these 2 neighbours to keep the reader entertained.
Jamie, the house flipper, doesn’t make the best first impression on his new neighbour April. He has his work cut out for him winning over the single Mum who has completely captured his attention. He also finds himself occupied at times with Axel, April’s hilarious son. This little guy has a large personality and is such a cutie, I enjoyed reading every single scene that Axel featured in.
I really enjoy reading rom-coms where one of the main characters comes from a large family, in this instance it is Jamie that has 4 siblings (3 brothers, 1 sister). The brothers will get their own books in this series – Cohen, and the twins Jaxon and Bryant. I can already see these guys are going to be fun to read, can’t wait to see what happens next for them.
What a super hot single parent read, the chemistry between the two characters had me waiting for my kindle to burst into flames it was smoking and when we did get to the hot parts the temperature soared off the scale!
Every single character featured in this story made this a perfect read from start to finish, from Jamie’s wild and crazy brothers to April’s hilarious son Axel and his much loved gran Betty they all gave us moments of laughter that had me falling deeper for this book with every page I turned! The banter between them all was brilliantly written and the flirting between April and Jamie was so sweet I actually swooned.
BJ Harvey is a fairly new to me author and I have to say I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to consume her words that seem effortlessly entwined to make for such a heartfelt tale of love, loyalty and family.
The fact this is the first in a new series makes my heart happy dance for what’s to come in future books because I can’t help but want more from The Cook family.
I love spinoff series.
I love a good rom-com.
I love a good fun sexy read without drama and a little bit of angst.
And I love it when a man drops to his knees for a woman with a child that isn’t is own.
And BJ Harvey delivered it all with this first book in her new series. I loved Jamie and April’s story. It was fun and sexy. It had me laughing out loud and swooning a little. We all need a Jamie in our lives. LOL!! I loved April’s character. She was strong, independent, so sassy and a great mother. Axel her son will capture your heart. This is definitely a must read. I can’t wait to read the Brother’s stories.
ll this was a really good read. I have to say this was a lovely easy read and I was able to throughly lose myself in this book for an enjoyable few hours. The story was engrossing and flowed well and it’s the sort of book that’s a perfect pool side read.
The characters are super likeable and easy to relate to and I thought Jamie and April had great chemistry. This is a single mum read so it goes without saying that Axel, the cutest kid ever steels the show.
If you’re looking for a fun rom-com with little drama and angst, you can’t go far wrong with this book and I look forward to the next book in this series.
I was provided with a copy of this book from the Publisher; there was no inducement or obligation and I opted to leave a review.
BJ Harvey is hands down one of my all time favourite authors when it comes to making me pee my pants from laughing so much!
Her stories are so easy to read, storylines well executed and the characters are on point. April and Jamie are no different! I loved the banter between them, nothing beats it.
I was also super happy to catch up with the rest of the gang, I miss them!
I guess all that’s left to say is well done on another outstanding read Mrs, it was everything I could have wanted and more! Bring on the rest of the series!!
Great debut to the Cook County series for BJ Harvey! This story of hot house flipper, a spunky nurse, and an adorable little boy will reel you in from the get go and keep you reading for the laughs, the steamy encounters, and one scene stealing six year old. Add in hot brothers and sexy friends for guaranteed follow up books and you have an instant boredom buster. The story moves quickly, at the pace of a house flip fast, but it never seems unrealistic. Characters are well developed and seem genuine. The affectionate banter and dialogue are believable and move the story along. Lots of opportunities to introduce spin off story lines and, if you are already and BJ Harvey fan, you’ll recognize several characters from other books/series. Those books are not necessary to enjoying this one, but provide an inter connected world for previous fans. Looking forward to the rest of this series as it rolls out!!
Work in Progress was a great kickoff for the Cook County series. I loved having a lot of the previous characters from other books make quick appearances…And I absolutely loved Jamie. April, and Axel <- first I want to say that I absolutely adored the name Axel Rhodes. April and Jamie's first introduction was haphazard, at best, but he was able to win her and her son's hearts. I thought this was a sweet, lighthearted read, and I cant wait to read the stories for the other brothers!
What incredible fun this story turned out to be!! If the blurb doesn’t scream fun and #oneclick for you, let my words assure you that it was! #trust
Single parent romances, in my experience, tend to lean more towards tugging at your heart than making laugh out loud, but Work in Progress didn’t lean towards anything. It was the perfect blend of everything. From beginning to end I had a huge smile on my face. Both April and Jamie were well thought out and developed. Honestly, I can’t find a single thing I did not enjoy. And the cast of characters …. You guys, seriously, THIS SERIES IS GONNA ROCK!
I’ve read quite a few books by BJ Harvey now and I feel safe saying the woman doesn’t disappoint. I looked back on some of the previous works I’ve read by her and they have all been positive. This journey and this series of brothers is no different so far. I’ll say it again … this was fun people so get to reading!
5 stars
Work In Progress is the ridiculously adorable start to the Cook County series by BJ Harvey. Harvey has quickly turned into a one-click author for me when I want sexy, sweet and funny!
I was charmed from the first page by Jamie and his fiesty neighbor but when Harvey threw in the 6 year old, I was a goner. Axel steals the show and will charm his way into the hardest of hearts! April and Jamie are PERFECT for each other and Axel is a huge bonus! The way Jamie was with Axel made my crush on him so much harder! Also, I loved seeing the family and friends we’ve met in some of Harvey’s earlier works and can’t wait to see these boys fall!! Truly fantastic book!

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
Where can I find my own Jamie? This guy. What an adorable, sexy, wonderful male lead. I loved his sense of family, work ethic to do something he loves and had set his mind to, and the way he respected and treated, not only April, but Axel and Betty as well.
April was a fun and spunky female lead, and a strong one at that given her past. I also really loved Axel. That kid. He sure gets his spunky attitude from his Mum.
This was a really fun and easy to read book, with no angst and no overdone drama. The characters were all really likeable and I wanted them to get their happy ever after. I definitely look forward to seeing more of these guys in the rest of the series, and am keen to get to know all the brothers in their upcoming books.
A really sweet and cute read. Would recommend.
This was a cute story with no drama. While I liked Jamie and April, I never really felt their chemistry. If you’re looking for a quick read with likable characters, a little steam, and no drama, this is the book for you. I am looking forward to reading about the rest of the Cook brothers.
Jamie Cook has become my new favorite hot guy *sigh*. To say I fell hard for him is an understatement. He’s hot (did I mention), smart, funny (was definitely laughing a lot throughout this book), hot (worth mentioning again), and very good with his hands, in more ways then one. He also can completely melt your heart with his sweet and giving ways. Basically, total love. April is sassy and feisty and can keep up with him, and they are so adorable together, when they’re not arguing, which is pretty funny. And don’t get me started on Axel. That kid had me totally cracking up every time I saw his name. Add in 3 hot brothers, 1 hot brother in law, 1 hot best friend, and Abi, and you have the makings of an epic new series that I can’t wait to read more of. BJ Harvey just keeps getting better!!!
Work in Progress is the first book in the Cook Brothers series and it was a great read. I loved it. I loved loved Jamie. He was sexy and swoony. April was sweet, sassy and feisty. I loved their banter and chemistry. Axel was so cute. I loved Jamie and Axel’s relationship. Looking forward to reading more in this series!
Work in Progress by BJ Harvey is book 1 in the Cook County Series. This is the story of Jamie Cook and April Williams.
April is a single mother, a nurse who works shifts but does have help from her ex-mother-in-law. After working one of her shifts she tries to come home to get some rest only to start hearing the neighbor who is working on his house. April goes to confront him which gets them off to a bad start. Jamie had goals to marry and have kids but hes let that go. Now Jamie is focus only on flipping houses. Jamie puts a deadline of 90 days so he is on a deadline. But then April comes at him with her spunky attitude not to mention Axel her son who is a character too.
This book is such a fun read. All the secondary characters brought a lot of laughs to this book. I can’t wait to read more from this series and this author!
