Jamie Cook is a work-in-progress. He’s always wanted what his parents have: a good marriage, lots of kids, and financial security. He thought he’d have the first two with his ex-girlfriend while the third would come once he got his house-flipping business off the ground. When his ex doesn’t subscribe to his five-year plan, he makes Cook Brothers Construction his sole focus. Then he moves next … moves next door to April Williams, a sassy single mom he can’t stop riling up. Throw in her matchmaking mother-in-law, who’s set her sights on Jamie being April’s knight in a leather tool belt, and a house threatening Jamie’s sanity, and it should be a recipe for disaster, but Jamie wants this three-month project to last forever. That’s if he can stop being the neighbor from hell and prove to April he’s not just flipping a house—he wants to flip her heart.

I really enjoy this one so much! I was hooked right from the beginning. The characters truly made this book. I loved Jamie and his brothers. Their antics had me laughing quite often. April’s son Axel stole the show. That little six year old had me laughing whenever he was in scenes. The things he comes up with are too adorably funny. I loved the scenes with Axel and Jamie. Ovaries exploded with those moments. I’m already hooked on this series and already going to eagerly waiting for the next book. This is a book I highly recommend. It’s a feel good funny light read that will have you gobbling it right up!

I read this awesome story in a day and a half. It was much needed after reading several heavy books before it. It was lighthearted and uplifting. It made me laugh and it made me swoon. This is one I wouldn’t mind revisiting and I’m looking forward to seeing more of the Cook brothers and the women who bring them to their knees.
Jamie Cook has a dream. He has always wanted to flip houses and have a family. His girlfriend left him because she thought his dream wouldn’t take off and how could she be with someone like that. He finds himself quitting his job and living in the flip. One night while jamming to Queen and drinking a beer and demolishing a wall his feisty spunky neighbor barges in to yell at him. He doesn’t realize this is the beginning of his future. This sexy woman who spars with him and yet has a big heart but is also the mother to a precocious 6-year-old who steals his pizza and his heart. He tries to balance a budding relationship and finish his first house.
April is the mother to a crazy 6-year-old named Axel Rhodes. She works hard as a nurse while her ex mother in law lives with her to take care of the little Houdini. When she barges into the house next door to tell him to keep it down, she wasn’t expecting the wall of muscle to take her by surprise. Her whole life has been work and Axel with no time for dating. She finds herself thinking about the sexy neighbor more and more and they find themselves embarking on a relationship.
Oh, Jamie you are a gem. A guy with dreams and goals and loves kids. I think that would make most ovaries explode. I like that he knew what he wanted and went for it. He moved at April’s pace. April was spunky and I liked her comebacks. Axel you pizza thief and money swindler. He was so darn cute. This book had a good supporting cast and I can’t wait to see who the next book will be about. This is my first BJ Harvey book but I can’t wait to read more.
A fun and sexy story. I loved the characters. I enjoyed the connection, the banter and hot chemistry I loved the storyline. Its entertaining and sweet that will leave you smiling. Looking forward to reading more.
Work in Progree is a cute, funny and lighthearted read. It was so easy for me to get caught up with this story and with these characters.
Jaime is a broody man. Trying to prove that he can be who he wants to be, while doing what he wants to do. Flipping houses has always been his dream, and when he embarks on his first flip, he never imagined it would lead him to his, smart, sassy and fierce neighbor. April, a single mother, is a holds no bar, takes no crap kinda girl. She effortlessly digs her way into Jaimes life. Their path is a fun and adorable one, with one spunky little boy in the midst. I love all three of them and couldnt stop reading their story.
For me this is a story that came out of nowhere and just made my heart swoon!
This is the first in a new series of the Cook brothers, and is the eldest Jamie and April’s story. Jamie has decided to take his life in a new direction, and that is flipping houses. April is a nurse and single mom to a cute little boy, and she lives next door to the first house that Jamie is flipping. This is a beautifully written story which is humorous, sweet, steamy, and filled with love which all leads to an all round entertaining and perfect rom-com. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and cannot wait to read about the other three Cook brothers. I recommend this talented authors’ work for all.
Jamie, April and Axel’s story is so swoon worthy!! After being dumped by his ex, Jamie is left doubting himself and his worth when he meets his new neighbour on a drunken night. April’s sass and spunk ignites in Jamie a need to challenge her but she is not one to back down from going toe to toe with him and set him straight.
Our hero is a true hero in his own way for both the single mother and her little boy and I am happy that they found themselves.
Jamie is trying to prove himself and is flipping a house and then meets his neighbor April. He is attracted to her and is pulling out all the stops to win over her and her son. This book is laugh out loud funny and full of romance. It grabs you and you are rooting for Jamie to win.
What a perfect way to start a new series with a 5 star review and Work in Progress has certainly left me with lots of anticipation for the rest of the Cook County Series. This author knows how to give her fans romantic comedy and this book is rom com at its best.
April hasn’t had it easy as a single mum she has had many challenges in her life and after her ex husband left her she is bringing up her adorable son Axel with the help of her mother in law. Life is crazy busy with shifts as a nurse at the local hospital and any spare time is spent with Axel so there is never any alone time for this loving mum and the last thing she needs is a new neighbour disturbing her sleep after a long shift……
Jamie has just started renovating the house he is trying to flip and even though he feels remorse for disturbing his feisty neighbours sleep he can’t help riling her up. Who would have thought he would end up with such a gorgeous neighbour…..
An instant attraction and lots of witty banter all help make this a great read, it’s a book that will captivate you it will make you laugh and it will leave you smiling like a Cheshire Cat and once you add in the adorable Axel you get perfection. I fell in love with every character in this book and I’m excited for the rest of the series. This is romantic comedy at its best.
The first installment of Harvey’s new Cook County Series was a light and sweet read. I was really excited when I found out she was going to be making a series for Abi’s brothers. Work in Progress was a fantastic introduction to the series and the brothers.
Harvey delivers endearing characters and an engaging storyline. Jamie Cook was incredibly charming. I was smitten. April Williams was feisty and cute. I enjoyed their story. We got to see a sweet romance blossom and grow. There wasn’t a bunch of added drama so we were able to focus on the build of the relationship. Add in an adorable six year old and I couldn’t get enough.
We get to spend time with some of our old friends and get to learn more about some new ones. I can’t wait to see what Harvey brings us next. She sets up a few possible love connections and I’m eager to see how they play out.
This was fun. Seriously romantic comedy. If you love watching flip house shows and romance you will find this one to be just what you were looking for to have them both at the same time. I loved getting to meet the characters. Jamie was more than just a pretty face and hot body. He was a man that had deep dreams. Behind the bad hot boy exterior was the soul of a man that wanted a family and a loving marriage. He find that next door could be his answer. No. It was not just that simple. April would not allow for it to be that way. There was more chemistry that artistry going on here. Jamie had the heart but the execution was just a little off.
Great start to this series! It’s funny it’s an easy read it’s perfect for the summer!!!
5 star Review Work In Progress(Cook County #1) by B.J. Harvey
Book one in a brand new series and I for one cannot wait to see where BJ Harvey takes us, if Work in Progress is any indication. This is a great example at RomCom at it’s finest.
There is nothing that I did not enjoy about this book. From the first to the last page I was all in with Jamie Cook, April Williams and in fact the whole Cook family.
For April life as a single mum has had it’s challenges, throw in a mother who is a determined matchmaker and life certainly can be complicated. Jamie, ticked all the boxes for me with his humour, kindness and caring nature.
When Jamie moves next door, to work on a house he is planning to flip things certainly heat up. The banter between Jamie and April had me laughing hard at times and I fell in love with her son Axel.
Work in Progress is a laugh out loud romantic comedy but it is all about family, love and support and is a genuine feel good book and I could not wipe the smile off my face whilst reading. This book is a little gen, one click it, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Single parent romances have become a favourite of mine over the last 12 months and this one is high on my list of favourites. I really loved the growth of the relationship between Jamie and April, add in family members who absolutely cracked me up at times and I was totally invested.
Sass, snark, laughs, love and one funny kid make for a perfect book. Right from the beginning I was drawn in and wasn’t able to put this book down. I CAN’T wait to get more of this series!!!!!
There was so much to love about this book, I don’t know where to start. I have a seroius crush on Jaimie, he’s hot, loves his family, has an outrageous sense of humor, loves kids, especially the one next door. Axel maybe one of the best written kids ever. Funny, smart, and so darn cute. And April, single mom, funny, sassy, hard working, and tough. This book ticked all the boxes for me. The Cook brothers and their loves are going to be a great series if this is any indication. Well developed, fast paced, hilarious banter, and just enough sexy fun. 5 Stars all the way!!
I received an ARC for this book and this is my honest review!!
This is the first book in this new Cook County Series and its a great start. This book pulled me in from the very beginning, with the wit from the main characters, the sassy banter and red hot chemistry. You heart will be swooning with the hot AF house flipper Jamie and will be stolen by the cute rambunctious 6 year old Axel.
I am completely hooked on these Cook brothers and I can’t wait to read the rest of their stories. I love how they banter and tease each other but how they also have each others backs. I can see their stories will be extremely entertaining.
If you like a sweet romance with minimal angst and great humour and swoon-worthy moments then this is the one for you. You will be easily able to devour it quickly unable to put it down.
From start to finish I had a smile on my face when I read this. This book is sexy and funny with some romance thrown in for good measure. I love the banter between April and Jamie they have so much chemistry. Little Axel took my heart he reminds me of my own little man. This is the perfect romcom and one that you can’t help but fall in love with. Bj has a way with words, you get lost in the amazing stories she creates. I suggest you pickup a copy you won’t be disappointed.
Jamie is starting a new venture in his life and hoping for the best. What he doesn’t expect is his feisty next door neighbor. April and Jamie don’t have the best first encounter with each other but you can’t stop the immediate chemistry between them.
Jamie and April both have their own baggage from their past and they have to deal with that before they can move forward. I also loving little Axel and he had laughing throughout this book. I loved personalities of both characters and the supporting characters. I can’t wait to read more of this series!!
I have a huge amount of love for those Cool brothers, oh my god!
I knew from the moment I read the info about this book that I was going to love it and I wasn’t wrong. This book was so freaking good and I’m in absolute awe of how perfect it was.
When I read romance’s I fully expect a big disaster, a break up and crying, lots and lots of crying and sadness but not this one and it was quite refreshing. It was different, a good different and I absolutely loved it.
Jamie and April are amazing people. They’re both experiencing the same kind of heart break. Their other half leaving them when times get tough. Their first meet was an absolute hoot, so much fun and from then on it’s just been a barrel of laughs and swoons. Seriously, these two are adorable and super freaking hot!
Oh and let’s not forget Axel, cute adorable Axel that you just wanna squish him with hugs, oh my gosh.
BJ Harvey wrote a cracking story with these two. She brought her characters to life and made you fall in love with each and every character that was in this little beauty. Even after finishing it about 2 hours ago I just can’t stop thinking about them and how much more I want from them. I also can’t wait to read more of the other brothers. I have a feeling these brothers are gonna take over my heart.
Piece of Work is a fun, sexy romance. One that’ll capture you attention from start to finish. This book is definitely one of my favourites of 2019!
Work in Progress is the delightful start to this Cook County series. This tale of Jamie Cook and the woman who would turn his world upside down and around simply made me happy! BJ Harvey once again gives us characters who can’t help but be wonderful while finding a rightful place in our hearts. As Jamie treads lightly with his neighbor April while rehabbing a home right next to hers, it is just a matter of time before these two find themselves falling for the other while on a journey filled with the very best in humor, affection and joy.
What I love most about this book is that Jamie and his irresistible family may kid each other a ton but they always have each other’s backs. These are not super alpha men. On the contrary, they are wildly sexy when necessary yet have big hearts and know the right thing to say when one is having some trouble. With Jamie having his share of issues with the very determined, very feisty April, those crazy brothers of his provide the right amount of advice and understanding. And that right there is what makes them even more attractive.
April is a great character and I adored her for her independence and wisdom in knowing that Jamie could very well be the man for her even when she fought her feelings early on. Her son Axel is the ultimate scene stealer and it’s no wonder he became an honorary Cook long before his Mom fell for Jamie. Harvey’s wicked humor shines through that little boy’s words and he not only kept me entertained but every person he came into contact with in this book had a hard time resisting his charm.
And OMG…Jamie’s parents. Those two have the whole ’embarrassing our adult children with our info about our naughty trysts’ act down pat. They are frisky and fun and add the perfect touch to an already fabulous time.
BJ Harvey continues to create divine storylines that not only warm the soul but add that swoon factor that is beyond addictive. Watching as Jamie and April go outside their comfort zones in order to feel love again is exactly the kind of romance I can’t get enough of. It’s sweet and touching with just the right amount of passion. There is no extraneous nonsense to bog the story down. Just the story of a man and a woman who find they can’t live without each other and find the love they deserve. You can’t get much better than that!
5 solid stars!

God you’ve got to love a no nonsense romance with no drama, no upset, it’s a pure beautiful love story. From the off I knew it was gonna be a brilliant easy book. Sometimes you just need a book to have no angst or trouble.
The characters were all brilliant and to say I fell in love with the Cook men is an understatement. They are easy going, funny and totally dreamy. In saying that Jamie was totally ment for April. And although I loved all the characters Axel stole the show. He may have only been a six year old but he spoke so much sense and he made me laugh so so much.
There isn’t much else to say about this book other than it a really great read that keeps you engaged and.maksa you feel really good. It’s a total recommend from me.
