Jamie Cook is a work-in-progress. He’s always wanted what his parents have: a good marriage, lots of kids, and financial security. He thought he’d have the first two with his ex-girlfriend while the third would come once he got his house-flipping business off the ground. When his ex doesn’t subscribe to his five-year plan, he makes Cook Brothers Construction his sole focus. Then he moves next … moves next door to April Williams, a sassy single mom he can’t stop riling up. Throw in her matchmaking mother-in-law, who’s set her sights on Jamie being April’s knight in a leather tool belt, and a house threatening Jamie’s sanity, and it should be a recipe for disaster, but Jamie wants this three-month project to last forever. That’s if he can stop being the neighbor from hell and prove to April he’s not just flipping a house—he wants to flip her heart.

This was my first book from this author I liked the plot, and the description of the book. The book was actually boring, the best part were the side characters, the author describe them a lot, so you get to know them and you want to read the other books, which I am tempted to do, however as this book was so boring I don’t think I will do. The book was all around his insecurities and their love story, NOTHING else, come on ……It could have been a comedy or a drama or whatever but something was missing. I give it three stars for the idea and because the other characters may have good books….
Beautiful
When two people come together sometimes it’s just fate. Jamie is starting a house flipping business with some help of family and friends. His ex didn’t believe in him but they do. April is raising her son with the help of her ex mother in law alone, they live next door to the house the Cook brothers are going to flip when she comes in tell him to keep the noise down that he hurt himself. But something sparks between the two.
Cute story.
Light, easy, wonderful read. The characters are believable and the plot entertaining.
Entertaining story with wonderful characters. A fun read!
Way to much use of the “F” word.
I began reading but quit due to the “f” word throughout. I won’t read books with curse words. Would have been very interesting had it not been for the swearing.
Excessive use of graphic language
Enjoyed the premise of building a family while refurbishing homes. The child in the story is very loveable and quite the character. The extended family members and friends of the main characters are entertaining and would like to meet them.
Loved this book. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Funny, sweet, sexy romance. Loved Jaime and April’s story. Was an entertaining read from beginning to end. April is a hard-working single woman and Jaime move is next door to work on the house to flip it. When these two first meet the attraction is instant. The banter in this story between the characters is hilarious, throw in a cute sweet kid and the when these two get together it’s crazy hot. Now on to read Work Violation to get more of those Cook Brothers.
This was a really fast paced, light hearted novel that’s perfect for a weekend read. I loved Jamie and April and let’s not forget adorable Axel. There wasn’t a lot of drama in this book, and by that I mean pretty much nothing. I loved that. It made for an easy read and plate cleanser. I can’t wait to see what’s going to come. 4 star #2OCCJD
A new series about four super cool gorgeous Cook brothers? Yes please, this is just what the literary doctor ordered!
Jamie Cook meets his next door neighbour April Williams one night when he has had quite a few beers and is starting to demolish the interior of the house he is renovating to flip. Not the most auspicious beginning to say the least!
Jamie Cook is such a loveable character, one that I easily related to and found so endearing. April’s strong, sassy personality gives her such a vitality that makes her stand out. Together they are great and their no nonsense relationship is refreshing. Axel, April’s son, steals the day though and is such an adorable little munchkin.
With a solid storyline that is very lifelike, this fast paced, easy to read book is very entertaining and is extremely enjoyable. I look forward to reading the next one in the series.
**4.5 stars**
Without fail whenever you pick up a book by BJ Harvey, you know you will always grin like a fool. You will always swoon hardcore for her heroes. You know going into her books that you aren’t going to get a book that is going to rip you to shreds and put you through the wringer with your emotions. You are going to get a light, fun, sexy read that will ALWAYS leave you with a smile at the end. They are always easy to read and fairly a quick read.
“”You deserve special.””
This was short of all those things that make for an amazing book by this lovely author. I’ve read over 10 of her books and I’ve enjoyed them all immensely. Not only that, if you know me at all, you know I am a sucker for single parent books. We get that for this one. I was a goner from the start. Not only is our hero, Jamie is a house flipper (I’m just picturing this hot guy on HGTV… LOL!), but as soon as he meets Axel, he’s so sweet and caring towards him. Not even kidding. I reduced to a puddle.
“I’m going to make April Williams fall in love with me, and I’m going to prove that I can provide a life for us. And I can’t wait to get there.”
This is the first book in a new series about the Cook brothers and I’m looking forward to more stories about the brothers. Jamie is working on flipping his first house. After a heartbreak, he decided to quit his job working on boats to start his own business. With the financial help of his brothers as investments in the business, Jamie learned the construction business from his best friends before purchasing the first house to flip. Even though all hands are on deck with Jamie, he feels like he has to be the one that takes on the majority of the work and responsibilities.
Jamie meets his next door neighbor, April, one night when she comes charging into his house to yell at him. Unfortunately, Jamie was drinking and talking to one of his brothers on the phone when this happens and he injures himself. April, a nurse, takes care of his wound and then tells him that his music is too loud and she has to work and has a young child next door. Jamie feels an instant attraction to April but she’s feisty and will have not of it!
We are introduced to Jamie’s brothers and best friends when they all give him a hard time about his injuries and that he tried to make a pass at his neighbor. I love the fun and hard time that these guys give each other while supporting each other no matter what happens in life. Throughout the story, these guys are so funny and such gossips you can’t help but laugh. But they are supportive of Jamie and even April and her son!
As Jamie tries to get April to go out with him, he spends time with her son Axel and it is so adorable the bond that develops between these two. And Axel is just so cute and hilarious it’s hard to resist this little boy, which Jamie can’t. April sees that Jamie is not the “unresponsible” guy that she first met but is actually a pretty nice guy and treats her son like a person and not an annoying kid.
As April and Jamie’s relationship develops, we get to find out more about each of them and what them to this point in their lives. April meets Jamie’s family and they instantly love her and make her feel as if she has always belong with them. When the stress of the house flip gets to Jamie, he pushes people away because he feels he has to prove that he is worthy of April’s love and that he can make a success of his new business. However, by doing that he really is pushing April away and it takes his family, her son, and her mother in law, to show him what he has done. Jamie must show April that she, her son, and her mother in law are a priority in his life and that in order to have any life together, they have to be able to rely on each other and be there for each other.
This is such a great story of two people who have been hurt in their personal lives and is out to prove that they can achieve what they set out to do and still be able to find love. Add in such a supporting family and friends and it’s such a great combination. I can’t wait for more Cook stories!
“ ; ’ . ’ , ’ . ’ .”
is the first book in B.J. Harvey’s brand-new series, and it will be one of the most satisfying romances you’ll read this year! With enough explosive and passionate chemistry to set your cheeks aflame, and extremely funny banter to lighten up ANY mood, Jamie and April’s happily ever after is one you won’t forget. When you have a hot, deliciously ALPHA, but tender hero, a sassy and bold heroine, and an ADORABLE six-year-old boy that steals the show with each turn of the page…I’d say you have one hell of a story on your hands. This book will give you ALL the feels, ALL the tingles, and ALL the beautiful satisfaction! You know what makes me so damn giddy? The fact that this is only the beginning! Jaxon Cook is up next and I can already tell that he will definitely give us a run for our money.

I Absolutely love single parent romances. And then to add in that its a new series of brothers, awesome.
This is both of that and i have to say the first book in the series was definitely a good read for me.
Jamie was an ordinary guy who was trying to find his passion, so he decided to start flipping houses. So with the help of his brothers and friends he finally found something that he is passionate about. Now if he can only convince the sassy, sexy single mom next door to see more than the first encounter person she met.
April is a single mom, lives with her son and her ex-mother in law and she’s a nurse. So her sleeping time was precious to her. So a hot single guy moving in next door and making a ruckus at all hours was not going to work for her. Well until she kind of got a look at Jaimie. Now she gives him sass just cause she likes fighting with him. But can she trust Jaimie with her heart and not just hers but also with her son’s!
Definitely a good start to a new series. I loved the laughter, the sass, the cuteness that was Axel and the meddling Betty. Not to mention the rest of the Cook family. I can’t wait for the next read in this series!
Work in Progress is definitely the kind of home improvement I can get behind. I’m a klutz, an accident waiting to happen so it’s in my best interest to keep power tools, nails, and hammers (oh my!) far, far away from me.
This DIY flipper and his new neighbor have chemistry oozing from them. Add in a smile inducing, rambunctious six year old to the mix, it’s kryptonite to any romantic. With sass and spunk, our heroine had me at hello- even if it took forever to “learn” her name. Work in Progress had me smiling, snickering, and wishing I had started reading BJ Harvey a long time ago!
No time like the present to catch up!
This story had me smiling, giggling, tearing up a couple times, and interested in the characters. April and Jamie made a great couple. Loved Jamie’s instant attraction to April and her son. April was protective, fun, and patient. The Cook brothers and family were wonderful as well. I look forward to reading more in this series. I highly recommend this book.
I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
When a very tired, very grumpy April walks into her new neighbor’s home to tell him off for disturbing her sleep, instead of finding what she had thought – a drunk jerk, she finds a hot guy who’s gushing blood from a wound in his hand. Her nursing instincts kick in and she’s offering him first aid even as she’s telling him off for playing music so loud so late at night. But when that same drunk hot guy tries to kiss her, it infuriates her even more, and she storms off.
Jamie’s thoroughly intrigued by the sassy, feisty woman who waltzed into the house he’s flipping, offered him first aid, then told him off after he tried to drunkenly kiss her. And he’s thoroughly set on apologizing to her AND getting her to go out with him. But it’s when he meets her adorable, precocious son, Axel, that he knows for certain he has to have them both in his life. Will the woman with walls as high as the sky ever let him in? Let him charm her the way her body wants her to?
I absolutely adored Work in Progress! There’s sassy, witty banter, chemistry in spades, a whole gang of awesome brothers (and a sister and a brother-in-law), a former mother-in-law, two awesome parents, and the sweetest, most adorable little boy. What more could a great romance need? I will be awaiting anxiously more of these brothers – they’re a hot handful!
