Jamie Cook is a work-in-progress. He’s always wanted what his parents have: a good marriage, lots of kids, and financial security. He thought he’d have the first two with his ex-girlfriend while the third would come once he got his house-flipping business off the ground. When his ex doesn’t subscribe to his five-year plan, he makes Cook Brothers Construction his sole focus. Then he moves next … moves next door to April Williams, a sassy single mom he can’t stop riling up. Throw in her matchmaking mother-in-law, who’s set her sights on Jamie being April’s knight in a leather tool belt, and a house threatening Jamie’s sanity, and it should be a recipe for disaster, but Jamie wants this three-month project to last forever. That’s if he can stop being the neighbor from hell and prove to April he’s not just flipping a house—he wants to flip her heart.

I cannot believe I have never read this author before. Work in Progress is classic rom-com. Between the funny banter, witty lines and sexy, steamy scenes I couldn’t get enough. I love the entire Cook family and I cannot wait for the rest of the books in this series. Jamie has a heart of gold. Once he sets his sites on April his determination knows no bounds. He is charming, sexy and the full package. He is hard working and has been waiting for a woman like April so he can have the kind of relationship he has grown up watching his parents have. I loved his confidence, and every time he calls April ‘my lovely’ gah you cannot help but swoon! April is the woman next door. She is a strong single mom to 6-year old Axel. She has raised an adorable boy who is polite and minds his manners. Like any 6 year old he is innocent and tells it like it is. He totally stole the show for me. This story is jammed packed with so much heat and humor it will be sure to leave a huge smile on your face. Can’t wait for Work Violation next.
Loved, loved, loved this book. I enjoyed the banter between April and Jamie, Jamie with his brothers, family & friends. It was funny & sweet. I’ve always enjoyed BJ’s books.
I enjoyed this story so much! I fell in love with April & Jaime, and April’s son Axel will steal your heart! This Cook family is hysterical! The author will pull you in from the first page on! Make sure you grab this one, 5 stars for this!
Well, that was fun! Work in Progress is a cute, low drama (but there is a little), fun-filled story about April and Jamie. April is a single mom who hasn’t had it easy, but she hasn’t let that sour her on life. Jamie is starting his own business of flipping houses. When he made the announcement to his fiancée she dumped him. Guess it wasn’t something she thought was worthy of her. So naturally, he’s being cautious about entering into another relationship. That was before he met his next-door neighbor….
Their meeting his funny and it involves sloths. That’s all I’m gonna say on that one. This one is pure entertainment. You can read it in an afternoon if you really want to. It’s an enjoyable escape.
This book is funny, and sweet and all the things a good romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
Great book
Oh my God, I loved this book! BJ Harvey is an amazing writer, giving you the best “mind picture” ever! I love the character building of the Cook brothers! Jamie and April are absolutely made for each other! However, her six yr old son Axel absolutely steals the show and her match making ex MIL is the best! Check out this book, I’m moving on to the next in this series, right now!
Really enjoyed this book!
Witty reparteé and earthy male and female perspectives, although pretty stereotypical. Quick read.
Great story! Very fun read
Relaxing, easy read
I loved this whole series. A wonderful family populated with witty, charming, real characters.
Great read!
This was the first book I’ve read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It had the perfect amount of humor, passion, romance, and steam. I absolutely loved both Jamie and April, their chemistry was off the charts; and Axel had me laughing out loud throughout the whole book.
Work in Progress is the first book in the Cook County series that will have you laughing out loud with each encounter between Jamie, the hot houseflipping neighbor and April, the sassy single nurse. This book seduced me with the witty banter, sassy comebacks, fiesty attitude and explosive sexual chemistry that had we wondering when my pages would catch fire. Add in a rambunctious little boy who had my heart from the moment he snuck in. If you love a great family rom com then you definitely need to read this story because it’s the first in a long line of Cook brother’s that will leave you begging for more!
This is a really good story, great family, good basis. Heartwarming at time. I am looking forward to more of the stories of his family.
It does get steamy … but easy to skip those parts
I love her son and his relationship with him and her former mom-in-law
I really enjoyed the basis of the story being his first house flip.
Cute, funny, and thoroughly entertaining. Heavy use of the F word though. Sexual situations with wonderful characters and happily ever after ending.
OMG what a cute story this was!! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!!!
Jamie meets his no named neighbour as he’s drunk and hurt his hand. Good thing she’s a nurse.
He finally gets to know her name thanks to her son Axel coming for a visit to “work”. So the no named neighbour is April, and Jamie can’t stop thinking about her or her son Axel. Which is now his buddy.
April is not looking to start anything as she’s been burned by the ex. But Jamie isn’t taking no for an answer in a good way though LOL! He’s persistent and knows what he wants, even before he knows she is what he needs!
April ends up knowing his brother and BIL and it’s soooo funny! I love the humour in this book. Cracked me up! The sibling rivalry, competitiveness, and the jokes! CRACKED ME UP!
This are moving right along for the house, and for April and Jamie, but is it too fast for her? For him? She has Axle to consider, and how will he deal with the changes?
I love the relationship that Jamie and Cohen have! I LOVE IT SO MUCH!
The storyline was so great! Easy to follow along, but sometimes I think April got stuck in her own head a little too much, and it was hard to focus on what I was reading cause of that. But that’s how April is lol!
Some of my fave quotes:
1. Pluck me with a feather. I’m done. – ROFL!
2. “Want me to run him over?” – Ezra cracked me up!
3. Jamie giving his mom a bear hug! I love her and Rick so much. So funny and still so in love with one another.
4. Gran says you’ll know how to grill because you’re a big man, with big hands. – Gran knows more than that Axel LOL!
5. I love that Jamie’s family is all there for him, and to help him as well.
6. If looks could undress, you’d be naked as the day you were born already. – Ronnie. Oh Ronnie, and her one liners!
If you are looking for a book that will put a smile on your face, you NEED to read this book. I literally laughed outloud many times reading this book at the banter between April & Jamie, not to mention Jamie’s family, April’s son and her ex-mother-in-law. The wonderful way this book is written is rather incredible! Real, honest, flawed characters…you want to know. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
Loved the storyline with strong bond of family supporting each other unconditionally with witty humor. Honest emotions and easy to read. Was a great book to escape from pressure of life.
