He’s betrothed…but not to the woman who holds his heartShe’s hiding from the past…

He’s avoiding his future…
Betrothed since childhood, Crispin has no interest in wedding the woman he’s expected to marry before Season’s end. The lovely country miss, Jessica Brentwood, holds the key to his heart, though he’s never hinted at his feelings for her.
When they are the victims of a cruel hoax, Crispin isn’t at all unhappy that he’ll have to break his unwanted betrothal to marry Jessica. Except, his betrothed isn’t willing to release him from their agreement, and the vengeful villains who conspired to ruin Jessica and Crispin aren’t finished plotting mayhem.
How can he convince Jessica his rakehell’s reputation is mostly conjecture and that he’s adored her from afar? Dare Jessica believe the scoundrel who swears he’s not a rogue and vows he wants to protect her?
This heartwarming secret admirer historical by a USA Today bestselling author will make you sigh and have you rooting for Jessica and Crispin to outwit those conspiring against them.

Collette Cameron has added another engaging read to her Seductive Scoundrels series with Wooed By a Wicked Duke, book 5 in the series. I was thoroughly caught up and engrossed in the story of Jessica Brentwood and Crispin Rolston, the Duke of Bainbridge. They face scandal, a malicious scheme, and a few unsavory characters and yet Ms. Cameron has lightened it all with her witty descriptions and droll humor throughout. This was a delightful and gripping good read. Read it…you won’t be disappointed. I was fortunate to receive an advance copy of this work and offer this voluntary review. All opinions stated are my own.
London 1810
“Jessica had promised to try to conform. She wanted to embody the epitome of decorum. To display pretty manners and modesty. Truly, she did. Liar!”
At a ball, Jessica had to get away from the crowd of people. She had not perfected the art of artifce in trying to mask her feelings on hearing some of the Ton’s gossip. Daughter of a vicar, now her sister had married well and she was having her season in London. But it was hard to outrun the gossips and their tarradiddles about her father’s fall from grace.
Her next dance was with Crispin Rolston, the Duke of Bainbridge. “His rakish smile could melt a glacier. And those eyes… Lord those magnificent eyes. Quicksilver gray, they shone with a seductive gleam that had stolen her breath more than once.”
But what was to happen to these those as they were manipulated by others was beyond comprehension!!
I cannot say it enough but Collette Cameron captures and enchants me with each story she writes. Humor, intrigue, sigh worthy heroes (oh yes, I mean really sighhhh worthy!) and amazing heroines. Plus her use of words that just make me smile.. There is almost always a new one or more everytime! Seriously, no poppyswallop or baldercock here! Simply the best!!
Crispin was betrothed at the age of 12 to a girl who was a child at the time. He is enamored with Jessica but does not act on it due to his betrothment. He tries many tactics to get out of the betrothal but to no avail. When his betrothed and her lover drug Jessica and clobber Crispin they are found naked. Crispin is relieved he will be marrying Jessica since his betrothed ran off with her lover. But his betrothed’s father will do whatever nefarious means to stop their wedding especially since his daughter’s elopement was a failure. I loved the way Crispin and Jessica stuck together even when things looked bleak. They are an adorable couple. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Author Collette Cameron has once again written a magnificent novel! Wooed By a Wicked Duke is the fifth installment in the Seductive Scoundrels Series and will keep the reader continuously immersed in the storyline. Jessica Brentwood is trying to rectify the damage her father did to her reputation by being the prim and proper lady that society expects but when she is found naked in the arms of Crispin, the Duke of Bainbridge, all seems to be lost. Crispin is determined to marry Jessica but she refuses to be committed out of pity or shame. Will these two finally get the love that they deserve or will society continue to dictate their futures? Author Collette Cameron always writes her characters with heart and determination. Never one to have a dull storyline, She writes with the fire and passion that could only come from her heart! I look forward to more from this wonderful author!
I received an ARC of Wooed by a Wicked Duke from Collette Cameron.
Jessica, a vicar’s daughter, likes to talk and reason with herself to understand situations better. Her contemplation helps her analyze various problems. She has had an infatuation with Bainbridge for a while, but he is supposedly a rake and therefore unattainable.
Crispin, the Duke, is an honorable man. He was betrothed at a very young age, but has no desire to wed his fiance, but rather a lady of his own choosing, someone he loves and cherishes.
This is a romantic sensual love story. A story of two hearts that wish to be united.
This enchanting story of Jessica and Crispin includes lots of misunderstandings, surprises that are not all pleasant and treachery.
But it also includes wonderful friendships, loyal friends and family and love.
Jessica Brentwood was trying to be the epitome of decorum at the Duke of Westfall’s ball, as to not embarrass herself or her family. This story is about Jessica and Crispin, Duke of Bainbridge. Crispin has wanted Jessica from afar but has been betrothed since childhood to
Lilith Brighton. Crispin and Jessica end up in a very compromising situation and Crispin says they will marry to save their reputations . This is where the fun begins. I love her writing style and her wonderful sense of humor. This book is exactly what I needed to bring a smile to my face and laughter into my heart. This book was a delightful sweet romance with sweater wearing chickens to top it off. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and highly recommend this and any be Collette Cameron. I was gifted this book and am voluntarily reviewing. Five stars!!! Thank you Ms. Cameron for bring me out of the holiday doldrums!!
Another nice read by Collette Cameron. Her writing style is very enjoyable and easy to read. This story is about Crispin and Jessica. Crispin liked Jessica and would have liked to court her, but he was engaged to someone else since he was young. Crispin and Jessica are put in a situation that brings scandal to them, no fault of theirs. Crispin wants to do the right thing, but Jessica does not want to marry because of a scandal. There are a few evil villains, but there is love. Love and help from family and fiends they overcome the problems facing them. I would definitely recommend this book.
Collette Cameron just has such a clever & humorous way of writing a story & she always grabs hold of you & yanks you inside the book to share in her wonderful characters adventures & they always have plenty to enjoy.
Jessica Brentwood has come to London to live with her sister after her father, the vicar had absconded with funds from the church. She has been very interested in her brother-in-law’s friend the Duke of Bainbridge but has avoided him because he has quite the rakish reputation & would not look at t country girl like her. She was now out in society has attended the functions but on this night she was lured into the conservatory by Lilith Brighton, who wanted to show her the new puppies that were recently born. The lady brought her a lemonade & they introduced themselves to one another & headed to the conservatory – that is the last thing Jessica remembered until she woke up in her bed at her sister’s home the Duke & Duchess. However; everything was explained to her by her sister & she discovered she had been drugged & found in the conservatory with the Duke of Bainbridge, both naked.
Crispin, the Duke of Bainbridge, has been betrothed to Lilith Brighton since they were children & he needed to get out of it as he would never be interested in her. He needed to find an honorable way to break the betrothal & then he would be able to court Jessica whom he had admired since their first meeting. Cristin was at the same ball & had been approached by a peer asking Crispin to help him sneak his drunken brother out before people saw him & started gossiping. He agreed to help him & they went to the conservatory where he saw Jessica passed out & went to her aid & he was knocked out, undressed & placed naked on the settee with Jessica to be discovered. He awoke just as he heard voices & managed to throw Jessica’s gown over them for cover before the people saw them.
Obviously, a ruinous scandal forced a marriage between Jessica & Crispin. He now had a way to break the betrothal as his intended & her lover were the ones to put him & Jessica in this false position & they had run off to Gretna Green. It seemed all would be well but no, more flies in the ointment Lilith is breeding, her lover has jilted her, she says the baby is Crispin’s. This a short, fun, entertaining, humorous, sad, sweet book that I highly recommend to all historical romance readers.
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
Jessica Brentwood was at a ball and lured into a conservatory under the pretense of seeing some newly born puppies by a woman who was falsely trying to be her friend. Jessica is a sucker for all animals and seeing puppies was right up her alley. What she wasn’t counting on was waking up nude on a settee with the handsome Duke of Bainbridge lying on top of her just as naked as she was.
Crispin, the Duke of Bainbridge, had come into the conservatory that night and was knocked unconscious, stripped, and put in a seductive position with Jessica. When morning came, they were discovered. He’d barely had enough time to cover them with her voluminous gown and that didn’t cover them completely before the people barged in.
A horrible scandal ensued. The Duke is betrothed to another even though he doesn’t want to be. He didn’t love Lilith Brighton and didn’t want to spend a minute of time with her let alone the rest of his life. And now that Jessica is ruined, he has no choice but to marry her instead. But nothing is ever that easy.
This is a short, enjoyable book with a bit of mystery , a couple of fade-to-black scenes, some good feels to it, along with some heavy kisses. I like these elements in a romance novel. I liked that Jessica never doubted Crispin and I liked how Crispin was candid about every facet of the mystery with Jessica. I liked how he treated her all around, even though she was the daughter of a disgraced vicar who was banned to Australia. She was a commoner and he was a duke. He didn’t care and he never treated her like she was beneath him. Yay for Crispin! But she never looked at him like he was better than she, either and he never expected her to.
I loved how these two made this come together. I loved them individually and I loved them together. They’re strong characters that pull it together despite the adversities. This is one of those times when I wish the book was longer. It was a great read that took just a couple of hours. It was paced nicely and had a fantastic ending. I just wanted more details about certain things. However, that isn’t to say it was lacking. It wasn’t. I’m just weird like that.
This is an easy five star read. It is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone novel with no problem.
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
Entertaining book with a few twists!
This was an easy, fun read. I enjoyed the plot immensely.
E no joyed it very much
A bit short and way too much exposition inside the main characters’ thoughts. Also fairly predictable. But if you don’t mind having the first 20% almost of a book be backstory and setting, go ahead and enjoy this bit of literary fluff.
I loved the mystery mixed with romance.
A quick, easy and clean romance.
I enjoy the characters and the plot. The beginning was a little slow but once the main characters start to interact the story was enjoyable.
3.75 stars
Not your normal Regency story where Dukes are respected and feared for the power they have. In this story, it seemed no-one was concerned they were going up against two Dukes.
The villains appeared and then are quiet. I wanted more drama from them, granted the almost father in law caused enough problems. It wasn’t clear why the villains singled out the h. Assuming, they noticed the H noticing her.
This is basically a clean story. The H does get a look at her naked and admires what he sees, so mentions body parts. We have some passionate kisses too.
I did feel like I was missing some parts of the story, since this is the first of the series I’ve read. Especially where the h’s father is concerned.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, and a small build up of romance. (ljb)
I stayed interested in the story to find out what the father of the betrothed would do next. Good story but everything came together rather quickly feeling too rushed.
Collette Cameron brings us another of her wonderful stories in The Seductive Scoundrel series. We again meet Jessica Brentwood who is attending the Season following her father’s disgrace. She is maliciously set up and winds up in a scandalous encounter with Crispin Rolston, the Duke of Bainbridge.
I couldn’t put this story down. The characters drew me into their lives and I just had to keep reading from start to finish! Ms. Cameron has such a wonderful way with words and character development.
This is book 5 in the series and is a stand-alone read. That being said, I believe you should read the each book in the series to get full enjoyment of all the characters and their interactions.
