Welcome to Wonderland Academy. Don’t lose your head.Getting into Wonderland Academy is easy:You must be a little mad.You must follow the white rabbit. You must find the key to enter Wonderland. You must not be named Alice or risk being beheaded by order of the Queen of Hearts. We might have an issue with that last one.My name may be Alice, but Wonderland Academy is everything my real life isn’t. … but Wonderland Academy is everything my real life isn’t. Who wouldn’t want to learn how to ride a jabberwocky, train with a vorpal sword, cast spells using a teacup, or shapeshift into a fairy? As long as no one figures out my real name, I should be fine.
The only problem? Aden, the Queen of Hearts’ son, is quickly becoming my best friend. And then there’s Corbin. Brooding, surly, tattooed, and definitely not my type, I can’t stop thinking about him. But Corbin has secrets of his own, and Wonderland and secrets don’t mix.
How I’m going to pass my classes and protect my secret like my life depends on it is beyond me. But I better find a way. Because in Wonderland, no Alice is safe.

Wonderland Academy is a college-level academy novel. It contains a slow-burn (not rh) romance. The novel is clean aside from mild language. This is Book 1 in a planned trilogy. Book 1 ends on a cliffhanger (Frodo didn’t reach Mount Doom in a day, after all).
Trigger Warning: This novel also includes references to a school shooting.

Alice for the 21st Century. Makes me Believe in Impossible Things
Lacey (aka Alice) is in a world of trouble. She escapes the absolute of insanity of her own life and world to enter one that is both better and worse at the same time. And her name may be the death of her.
Melanie Karsak has updated a classic tale with everything it needs for a new generation. Teenage angst, new friendships, magic, fantastic beasts and solid mysteries of a true magic kingdom. A kingdom that is alive with talking flowers, invisible cats and dragons (jabberwocky). College is always exciting but this Academy takes it to a new level.
Recovering from the tragic death of her beloved boyfriend and a life that seems insane, Lacey is literally dropped into Wonderland Academy. What she will learn may help her cope. As long as she doesn’t lose her head.
I love Melanie Karsak’ novels so it’s no surprise that I was delighted to get my hands on Wonderland Academy: Book One, the first in a new series. This book is, quite simply, a superb reimagining of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and definitely recommended. It had just what I wanted. I mean, who wouldn’t want to “ride a jabberwocky, train with a vorpal sword, cast spells using a teacup, or shapeshift into a fairy”? It was also well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters, from Alice, Aden and Corbin on down. Steampunk and magic, whimsy and reality, action and the start of romance. Yup, pretty much everything. Frankly, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed, I could go on and on with praises this book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend.
This book started slow but really picked up once in Wonderland. Alice Lacey, who goes by her middle name, just got out of the mental hospital for attempted suicide. She is also hiding the fact that she having hallucinations of weirdly dressed people. Once home though she falls down the “rabbit hole” and ends up in Wonderland, specifically Wonderland Academy. She is confused but quickly realizes no one must know that her name is actually Alice, otherwise she might lose her head.
Karsak has created a wonderful world that is fascinating and magical. She has taken a beloved classic and reimagined the world and creatures in it. I loved the premise of this academy in Wonderland with different factions with underlying politics. It was all very fascinating and captivating. I would really love to take the classes at this academy. All of them were so fascinating, especially the teamancy and baking class. I can’t wait to find out what happens next after that cliffhanger.

.We meet Alice leaving the hospital and trying to figure out what is going on. It seemed believable. I love her attitude! Familiar characters are refreshingly portrayed in different ways and new ones introduced.
How exciting and magical it is! I loved it from start to finish. So many wonderful and colorful characters but also done in a kind of steampunk way. I loved how the world build is and how the story is twisted from the original. I do think that I have to highly recommend this book and I know the rest of the series will be just as great or better!
This was a phenomenal story! Rich with Wonderland imagery, intrigue, danger, and humor. I thoroughly loved reading it. Lacey struck a note with me and I saw myself in her. I loved the Cheshire Cat and the Jabberwockies. It took the story of Alice and turned it into something fantastically wonderful. I really am looking forward to the next books. I have a feeling this book is going to give me a serious book hangover. It will be hard to move onto other books. Bravo!
