War weary knight, Merrick de Beaucourt, wants nothing more than a simple life, a peaceful wife, and to oversee his new earldom. What he gets instead are orders from his king, Camrose Castle on the wild and rebellious Welsh borders, and a completely unbiddable wife. For six long years, Lady Clio has waited for her betrothed..waited, and waited. Once the news arrives that he is returning, Clio … returns to Camrose to again await the man who ignored her, but now determined to make him pay for the years she languished in a convent. Clio leads Merrick a merry chase, and she takes on the role of an independent alewife, driven to discover the lost recipe for ancient “heather ale,” a magical beer first made by the Picts. Surrounded by the enchanted mists that circle Camrose Castle, these head-strong adversaries embark on a sometimes passionate, sometimes hilarious battle of wills in this unusual 13th Century tale of a brave knight who seeks to claim–and tame–his bride, or so he thinks….

I liked the book, something to get away for a little while each day. Easy to follow the plot.
A book you will read and re-re-read. I just love Jill Barnett
Well written and Humorous
A medieval novel with a good plot – a stubborn heroine, a battle-weary hero, a one-eyed cat, a flightless bird, two damaged boys and a quest for a mythical ale. I thoroughly enjoyed this and loved the laugh out loud moments.
Clio’s quest for the heathered ale is funny. Merrick starts out very dark and brooding but opens up to be very warm and caring. I liked the epilogue at the end which answered the riddle of Old Gladdys’ response to a heart breaking question.
I loved this tale filled with love, laughter and enchantment. An intriguing ensemble of delightful characters surround Clio and Merrick on their journey to a HEA. A great pace and lots of unexpected and fun instances it will leave you feeling happy with a smile on your face. A brilliant medieval story, wonderful by name and content.
Uproariously Wonderful
I love a well written tale that hits all the right marks. Wonderful by Jill Barnett is just such a book.
The first third of this engrossing read is laugh-out-loud funny with characters who are truly believable. As this endearing story continues, expected difficulties arise, which tugged at my heart. I wondered how Ms. …
Really enjoyed a witty mischievous heroine , a moody always serious knight whom is betrothed to said heroine , his humorous companion and fellow knight, and a old batty Welsh witch whom had the boys for her lady husband friend. A good funny book ! Highly recommended
I’m not a great fan of medieval romance, probably because I lack of knowledge of historical facts but also way of life and vocabulary.
As I’m self taught in English, it is not always easy to find oneself in a story with so many new words and speech patterns.
But I do loved WONDERFUL, it was a sweet and lovely read with some funny moments, battle …
I loved the concept of this book I also completely adored the main character Clio. I enjoyed her antics and found some of them even made me laugh. The Book starts off with a tale of an ancient brew that had powerful magic like qualities. Throughout the book Clio is trying to recreate the recipe. Even her failed attempts made for some fun …
This was a wonderful story
Very well written, loved it!
It has no real story to it, just romance. It’s not my thing. If that is what you like, its well written.
started out good ,then they started adding bad things to it
Gave up during the first story. The heroine seems ridiculously childish and unaware of safety issues, male dominance, potential physical threats, etc… for the time period.
