In this unforgettable, award-winning book, New York Times bestselling author Margaret Truman profiles twelve remarkable women, some famous, others little known. They range from a United States senator to a Native American to a first lady. Most wore bonnets and long skirts; few had college degrees; and only a handful stepped into a voting booth. But these women spoke the same language as their … sisters today. Truman’s look into the past pays tribute to the courage of American women from the Revolution to the present.

I strongly recommend this book for people to learn in closer detail about our history. I felt admiration for the strong women making a difference in our country at that time in history. I also felt sadden at the extreme greed of the people they faced down.
I enjoyed this book by Ms. Truman. Most of the women she writes about are women I hadn’t heard of or knew little about, but all have interesting stories. Margaret Chase Smith I had at least heard of, but I had no idea of her role in putting an end to McCarthy’s witch hunt. I was especially affected by the last story in the book. When it started it I thought I knew what it would be about since I was old enough to read about what happened and see the pictures in Life Magazine, but I had no idea about the back story.
I enjoyed this book and learned a lot about some very interesting and inspiring women from different periods of time.
I enjoyed this book very much as it informed me of some brave women almost lost to history who did some very brave things. Although not well known for their work, they persevered in their fields and contributed greatly to society.
I enjoyed learning about these women. A few of them were previously unknown to me, and I learned something more about those already known. It was not quite a page turner, but it was a quick read.
Everyone should read this book about lifetime accomplishments made by women. It inspired me that one woman can make a real change for people, humankind and the course of history.
The kind of book that would make a good resolution to read each year!
Always liked Truman’s mysteries, so I was a trifle disappointed with these stories, especially so many about people unheard of before.
I was looking forward to reading this book, because it was written by Margaret Truman. I was disappointed in the writing, which felt like it was meant to be read by grammar school children. A little too kiddie for me.
What a great collection of forward thinking women. Story of each woman was well written in a very interesting manner. A lot of women I had never heard of. I would recommend this book as a must read for all young women.
Great book about women in history
I think this book was a long time coming. It is necessary for women to know the many faces of courage and that it lives in all of us.
I throughly enjoyed reading this book . It was very informative and a interesting read
It was very interesting to read about history from a person who actually lived it. This book gives a more realistic portrait of Bess Truman, a remarkable woman.
“Biographical” reflections on each of the women were too short and too subjective.
Important stuff to be aware of. Women helped mold this country, and have had a big part in keeping it safe and honorable.
I have not finished it yet but love that tells stories most of us have not heard and they are real people. Inspiring
It’s Margaret Truman, it’s wonderful.
I loved this book so much that I tried to buy a paper copy for a friend who doesn’t do digital reading. Too bad its not available in that for also. Terrific book!!
Very interesting biographies of some well known and some unknown women. Highly recommended.
True stories of women in history.
