#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER A moment on the subway platform changes two women’s lives forever–a debut thriller that will take your breath away. A total stranger on the subway platform whispers, “Take my baby.” She places her child in your arms. She says your name. Then she jumps… In a split second, Morgan Kincaid’s life changes forever. She’s on her way home from work when a mother begs her to … She’s on her way home from work when a mother begs her to take her baby, then places the infant in her arms. Before Morgan can stop her, the distraught mother jumps in front of an oncoming train.
Morgan has never seen this woman before, and she can’t understand what would cause a person to give away her child and take her own life. She also can’t understand how this woman knew her name.
The police take Morgan in for questioning. She soon learns that the woman who jumped was Nicole Markham, prominent CEO of the athletic brand Breathe. She also learns that no witness can corroborate her version of events, which means she’s just become a murder suspect.
To prove her innocence, Morgan frantically retraces the last days of Nicole’s life. Was Nicole a new mother struggling with paranoia or was she in danger? When strange things start happening to Morgan, she suddenly realizes she might be in danger, too.
Woman on the Edge is a pulse-pounding, propulsive thriller about the lengths to which a woman will go to protect her baby–even if that means sacrificing her own life.

One woman’s struggles with motherhood and another’s desperate desire to be a mother collide in this explosive debut. Woman on the Edge is a white-knuckle read that welcomes a bright new talent to the world of psychological suspense.
If you are looking for something to get absorbed and distracted entirely from reality, this is a book which will make you forget all your obligations because you just have to keep reading.
I read this novel in less than a day- the most absorbed I’ve been by a book in a while. The pacing is impeccable, the characters are relatable, and it pulled me in from page one.
Morgan Kinkaid is waiting for her subway train when a stranger thrusts her baby into her arms – then jumps. But from there the situation gets worse and worse for Morgan. The cops don’t believe that the killer didn’t know her. They suspect Morgan pushed the woman, which means Morgan is against the clock to find out what really happened —for example, why did the woman know her name?— and prove her innocence.
Told through the point of view of Morgan and the woman who died, and in the vein of the best suspense novels, as a reader you always know just a little more than the protagonist in an ‘oh no look out!’ kind of way. All I’ll say is good luck putting the book down once you start!
A 5 star escapist read that pulled me in and didn’t let go, with a satisfying ending.
I’m not a fast reader. And yet, once I picked this book up, I could not put it down.
The suspense and tension is near-perfect. Ms. Bailey’s characters are flawed, human, fully formed. Nothing is left out. I began to suspect everyone. No one was safe.
Two flawed women. One perfect child. Courage. Terror. Determination.
Read it.
What would you do if someone came up to you on a subway platform, knew your name and handed you their child and told you to keep them safe and then jumped in front of an incoming train? This is the story of two women and the events that led up to and the events that followed that day in the subway.
Morgan’s life is changed forever when a baby is placed in her arms on the subway platform. She was already trying to recover from her husband’s deceit and suicide. Now she must face the police once again about a woman she does not know. In an effort to clear her name, Morgan retraces the last steps of the victim.
Nicole is a highly successful woman, who is the CEO of an athletic brand company. She is not the woman she was prior to having her daughter. Nicole’s world is falling apart and she is struggling to keep her baby safe.
Will Morgan be able to uncover what happened to Nicole and why she gave her daughter, Quinn to her? Will Morgan discover how Nicole knew her? What about Nicole’s husband? Where does he fit into this story?
This was a very interesting story. It was woven in such a way that you were trying to piece it all together but it was not clear until the end. The story is tragic and it demonstrates a mother’s love for her child and her deepest desire to keep them safe. The story did not disappoint.

What to do on a long flight across the pond? Devour Samantha Bailey’s gripping new novel! Imagine waiting for your train and being approached by a woman who hands you her baby and tells you to take care of her. That’s the heart-stopping premise of Woman on the Edge, two women fated to meet through a string of tangled histories. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Bailey delivers a brilliant debut with suspense and twists that will have you on the edge of your seat.
A fast-paced, twisty roller coaster ride in which a desperate widow, a guilt-ridden new mother, and the secrets of the past collide — with a baby’s life hanging in the balance… I couldn’t race to the end quickly enough! An exciting, binge-worthy debut.
With the narrative acceleration of a runaway train, Woman on the Edge kept me at the edge of my seat for its entire zigzagging ride; I had to remind myself to breathe. Bailey’s confident prose and dark satire enrich the ingenious plot, and her authentic characters — whether damaged, yearning, or downright diabolical — make this compulsory reading for fans of suspense. An exceptional debut!
A propulsive beginning grabs the reader by the throat, but it’s the unspooling of the plot and the layers of Bailey’s characters that keep you turning the pages.
What a premise! The pages turn themselves on this thriller and I had to stay up until the wee hours to learn how it ended. My heart absolutely broke for Nicole (the titular character). And it takes place in Chicago to boot. 🙂
4 stars
This book was gripping and fast paced from the get go. At 1/2 way thru the book I still couldn’t figure out whether Nicole was having a breakdown or was really being stalked. I, as always, loved the two person points of view. The writing was good although I didn’t really get, nor did I see the point in all the chakra stuff. Really good read all in all.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for my free copy in exchange for an honest review.
From start to finish, WOMAN ON THE EDGE is brilliant and compulsively readable! The concept is killer and the writing superb — I’m pumped to see what Bailey writes next! I love the twists and turns — a new favorite thriller for me.
From the dramatic first line of this novel, to the last few pages that finally untangle the twists and turns of the story, WOMAN ON THE EDGE will prevent you from thinking about anything else. The alternating voices of Morgan and Nicole lead the reader into the lives of two women who have become inextricably and dramatically connected, but with no apparent reason why. Bailey’s debut novel is a classic tour de force of a thriller. Her taut, descriptive writing creates strong characters and a diabolical plot that kept me guessing and changing my mind repeatedly … precisely what I crave in this genre. (As a side note, Bailey’s obvious research about postpartum depression deserves mention.) A debut not to miss!
Overall a very good read. The story was interesting and kept you wondering the whole time.
Don’t miss this mind-bindingly suspenseful thriller from Samantha Bailey. You’ll be moved by the story and guessing until the final pages. Enjoy!
I loved this book! It was thrilling and suspenseful, but also had happy and sad moments. It was very intriguing and I couldn’t wait to see how it ended. A very good read that I have recommended to all my friends and family and my mom actually has it now to read.
WOW! Talk about hitting the ground running!
Morgan is on her way home from work, waiting for the train at the subway. Morgan keeps her head down and doesn’t want any attention drawn to her. So why is this woman, who looks completely out of sorts, trying to give Morgan her baby and …. she knows Morgan’s name! “Keep her safe” and in a split second Morgan is holding the baby and the woman has jumped in front of a train.
Morgan is immediately questioned and is a person of interest. This is not her first run in with the authorities. She tells her story, she did not know this woman, she does not why she gave her the baby. But no one seems to believe her. She knows one thing for sure, not only is her life in danger but the baby’s life is in danger as well. Who will be believe her?
Told from 2 perspectives, so many twists. From the opening page until the end, I was on the edge of my seat! This is a keep you up at night page turner. Excellent thriller.
Characters are developed fully and the plot is involved yet easy to navigate. A bit of a page turner so plan a little time to read.
I felt so sorry for the main character – what she went through was just so unjust and downright cruel! Book had me from beginning to end. Wasn’t an entertaining book, but one that surely kept your attention.
Definitely a page turner !

You’ll be breathless as you tear through the final pages. Loved it!
