Markus deWolfe is a member of a famous, well respected, long line of powerful English knights. He, his brother, and father become involved in a potentially dangerous conflict involving marauding Scots, and a strategic English property on its northern border. It is during this situation that Markus, while visiting this property, meets the lovely Lady Amabella de Suaque.
Amabella is the widowed mother of the young man who’s recently inherited this property that needs protection, as well as three additional younger children. While her seventeen year old son has a bit of experience, having been trained as a knight, he’s not ready to run this place on his own. This is why Markus and his family are present.
As his time there passes, Markus becomes more impressed with the woman who’s a decade older than himself, and further involved with her children. But, Markus is expected to leave soon to become the personal guard to the king of England. It is a position he and his father have wanted for him for years.
Will his feelings for Amabella destroy his future or create one for him?
This is a wonderful story with so many elements. The characters, especially the children, are not only humorous but integral to the plot. I found myself chuckling more than once at the ‘king’. The two main personalities are interesting because of the age difference and their pasts. Without giving up any spoilers, this is definitely a page turner, filled with everything an historical romance should have right down to the last word. I highly recommend it!
Lady Amabella de Sauque has been suddenly widowed, and is worried that the Captain of her husband’s guard is up to no good. She sends to her allies for help to protect her family and home.
Markus de Wolfe is descended from a line of powerful men and is about to be appointed as the Protector to King Edward. When his father gets a call for help from one of his allies they rush to help. The son of the murdered man is serving in one of the family castles as a Squire.
This is a great story with several twists and turns. The characters are absolutely fabulous especially the two little ones. ( I can’t wait to read their stories someday). Our hero makes a choice that others will not understand, but if you have read any of this author’s books before you will know her heros always choose the right path. You can’t help but be caught up in the story from the begining to the end.
A really great story as usual.
