Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett encounters bad behavior on his own turf–only to have the FBI and the DOJ ask him to stand down–in the thrilling new novel from #1 New York Times-bestselling author C.J. Box.The good news is that Joe Pickett has his job back, after his last adventure in The Disappeared. The bad news is that he’s come to learn that a drone is killing wildlife–and the drone belongs … that a drone is killing wildlife–and the drone belongs to a mysterious and wealthy man whose son is dating Joe’s own daughter, Lucy.
When Joe tries to lay down the rules for the drone operator, he’s asked by the FBI and the DOJ to stand down, which only makes him more suspicious. Meanwhile, bodies are piling up in and around Joe’s district in shocking numbers. He begins to fear that a pack of four vicious killers working on behalf of the Sinaloa cartel known as the Wolf Pack has arrived. Their target seems to be the mystery man and everyone–including Joe, Nate, and others–who is associated with him.
Teaming up with a female game warden (based on a real person, one of the few female game wardens at work in Wyoming today) to confront these assassins, Joe finds himself in the most violent and dangerous predicament he’s ever faced.

Outstanding read to the very unexpected end.
If you love the Joe Pickett stories, you’ll love this one!
Typical of CJ Box, well written, realistic, fast reading and satisfying book. I’ll always be back for more.
I love the characters in this novel. Although I could not call this story a favorite from Box, I did read it with reasonable enjoyment. It’s a good read!
This book like the others written by this author is full of suspense, nail biting fast moving drama. Love all the stories of Joe Pickett, They are never disappointing.
Excellent as usual for Box
CJ Box is one of my favorite authors. My partner and I often read these books together.
What’s up with the extreme body count? Why kill off just a couple when you can kill off half the town. C.J. box you’re out of control and it’s time you took up fishing.
It was a sweet story. A feel good book
Love CJ Box and Joe Picket
Good job.
I loved this book because I liked the characters and the story. I also learned fascinating lore that I didn’t know about Native Americans, I loved that the main character had scruples and cared about people and feelings. He did things his way and the conclusion of the story was well done. I hope to read more of this author’s work.
Really enjoyed this one. I have found some of the C. J. Box books a little boring, but this one was very interesting and had lots of action. I highly recommend it.
This book wasn’t too bad in a folksy way, BUT =
Reading about the next book, Long Range, it starts off with a discription that a 180 grain bullet traveling at 8,000 feet per second.
This is so rediculas that it would keep me from reading the book.
I had sworn off of Box’s books a long time ago when he totally miss represented the ballistics of a 357 magnum round.
This is plain lazy with the information easily found on the internet. Who edits his books?
Why not just list his books as science fiction?
Box has potential to write interesting books, but would do well to stay away from any subject concerning fire arms.
Very good
This book was ok but too wordy in lots of the book
Great writer who knows how to build a climax, extend old characters and bring in new ones. He is one of the best!!!!
Excellent story. I have read many of C.J. Box’s books and not a one has disappointed me.
I read the whole series, and loved the plots and the characters! I hope there will be more books in the series.
I always enjoy his books. But would prefer no cursing.
