The omega activates his burgeoning wolf instincts in a new way, and they threaten to overwhelm his common sense.

Such a great read! I seriously could not put this one down–I am going to binge the series. I always love Sam’s stuff, but this was one of my favs.
Wow. I wasn’t expecting this story about about three alpha friends and the omega on the run. Dez is a cute grumpy disabled vet. Sawyer is on the run from the man who killed his father. There’s definite insta-attraction. Dez doesn’t know how to be a werewolf so Sawyer, a born werewolf, helps with some explanations. He has a big heart and a smart mouth. He is also perfect for Dez. I jumped right into book 2.
Takes the common omegaverse tropes we all know and love and gives new life. Expectations are upended and this book lit the typical stereotypes of alphas and omegas on fire and wrote them as real people who just happen to be wolf shifters. One of the best re-imaginings of the alpha/beta/omega class structures I’ve read. Great characters and world-building. Love the relationships and the pack dynamics.
A second chance wirh a new pack? It can happen.
What a stunning first book in a new series. Sam has created a wondrous world filled with intriguing characters. I was pulled in from the first pages. From a traditional pack to the new Kismet pack, this book has it all. There is violence, a past murder, and a kidnapping. There is also compassion, joy, smexy scenes, loyalty, and love.
Sawyer is running from the Alpha who murdered his father. He runs right into an amazing smelling alpha, who protects him. Given a medical discharge, Dez has formed a pack with his two former green beret buddies. Three alphas. Unique. But two of them , including Dez. We’re bitten, not born wolves. Dez knows nothing about omegas, only that he must protect this gorgeous man who smells so sweet.
Come. Join Dez & Sawyer, Gavin & Ash as they struggle to open the coffee shop of their dreams. Watch as Gavin & Dez learn about all things wolf & omega. They will find the true meaning of pack. An unexpected heat, new allies, a good neighbor, and a vile alpha add up to a book that will have you laughing, crying, and clinging to the edge of your chair. You will love this book! I can’t wait to read book two.
This book deals with wartime trauma and injury. PTSD. It is not condescending, but done with all respect.
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
It’s been awhile since I read any wolf shifter books, but this year I had a taste for them. This was my first book by sam Burns and I really enjoyed it! Well-developed characters, a good plot, and nice and steamy.
This book was a solid 3 stars. The writing is quite good. The first chapter draws you right into the action and you meet several of the characters off the bat. The concept of running away from a big bad alpha is hardly original, but the Kismet pack is fun and there’s a lot of potential for the storytelling of this series. The focus is on three friends, one who grew up as a wolf, and two who were bitten, making a life together as their own small pack. I love the characters and can’t wait to learn more about them.
*spoilers*
I do have a few complaints. The book starts out with a bang, but slowly fizzles out. I didn’t have to force myself to keep reading, but both the action and pacing slows down significantly. There is a lot to unpack with these characters (which is a good thing). Yet, only a few details are touched on, and not even the main characters of this book go into their backgrounds or anything like that beyond the little that is shared by the narrator. I feel like I was waiting and waiting to learn more and that never really happened. The book was a lot of set up, and Sawyer and Dez’s relationship, but the end leaves you with so many questions and this doesn’t really feel like Sawyer and Dez’s book. I’m sure things will be addressed in later books. I just wish more had been included in this book to make it more interesting.
I do recommend this book and plan to at least give the second book a try. Happy reading!
I loved the world building in this story, and that way it twists the alpha/omega werewolf/shifter tropes. I got hooked on the story, and the characters, less than a couple of pages in, and am very happy that Ash and Gavin will be getting their own books.
I liked that Dez is a newly turned werewolf and therefore has no idea about how werewolf society works. That, and the fact he’s an alpha who has injuries, really appealed to me, as I love flawed MCs. It’s a refreshing and very cool take on the usual alpha trope.
I loved Sawyer, and the way he grows in this story, especially once he realises this new pack accepts him for who he is, rather than treating him differently because he’s an omega. He’s sassy and capable and I thought he and Dez are a perfect match. Their relationship is very equal too, which made me happy. I also liked how, although their attraction is mutual and strong, they grow friendship and romance as they get to know each other.
The alpha after Sawyer is a total piece of work. I found the conclusion of that part of the storyline very satisfying. These guys are a force to be reckoned with in human form with their backgrounds and strong personalities. I’m looking forward to them coming into their own as wolves. I love how the guys all have each others’ backs, and work as a team. The pack dynamic is there, but they’re all on an equal footing.
The scenes where Ash and Sawyer explain about some of the more interesting parts of werewolf society—and sex—are hilarious. I enjoyed those scenes a lot.
I liked the supporting characters too. Kareni rocks. I also want to see more of the Shane pack too. Their pack dynamics are interesting and a bit different, and I loved their role in this story.
This is a fun story that begins a series I’m excited about. Sawyer is an omega who isn’t used to his opinion mattering. When he runs from the cruel alpha who killed his father to take over their pack, Sawyer is shocked to run into three alphas who have formed their own pack. Not only are they not fighting for dominance, these men value Sawyer’s input and welcome him into their pack. Asher is a born wolf shifter, like Sawyer, but the other two, Dez and Gavin, were bitten and turned.
I love all these characters, and I like that Dez stays mostly grumpy, even though he does all he can to make Sawyer happy and keep him safe. These two make a wonderful pair! I also love Gavin and Sawyer, and I can’t wait to see what lucky men end up as their mates. I also can’t wait to see how the unconventional pack grows and flourishes in the town of Kismet. I think it’s going to be a fun ride!
This is not your typical shifter story. There is mention of mpreg in ancient times, but it is no longer a part of modern times. This is an ABO story, but the rules are turned on their head, so to speak, and it creates an interesting dynamic to this fun twisted trope.
The story begins with Sawyer running for his life from the pack of his birth. The new Alpha wants him as his omega, but he’d rather die than mate with the man. Sawyer’s father was the Alpha until Mark killed him in an archaic way and turned Sawyer’s family and friends against him.
Dez, Ash, and Gavin all served in the military together. Ash is the only natural wolf among the three; the other two were turned. However, all three are Alphas, with Gavin as their natural choice for Alpha, as he was their CO in the service. They have formed the Kismet pack, and done it right, thanks to Ash’s knowledge from his time growing up in a pack. They made sure they were not infringing on other’s territory before settling down, even if their way of choosing a place to land was not quite…usual.
The three alphas are looking at realty options for their new coffeehouse/bakery when Dez has enough and sits down in the front to rest his injured leg. In runs Sawyer, and both of their lives are soon to change in ways Dez knows nothing about. All he knows is the overwhelming need he feels to protect this stranger from the two brutes that chase him through the door.
So, basically, Ash hasn’t been very forthcoming with details about being a wolf so far. Dez and Gavin have no clue what an omega is, or why old fashioned packs would treat them the way they do. They also have no concept of what heat is or what it entails. But the big one, at least in their eyes, is that they haven’t been told anything about this…KNOT…thing. It was so funny “watching” Ash stammer along, and then Sawyer just explain things kind of matter of factly.
When Mark files a complaint with the head pack of the area, Sawyer gets nervous. But, by this time, the Kismet pack has claimed him as theirs, and they aren’t letting go. I absolutely loved the other pack. Their dynamics are just as forward thinking as the Kismet pack, and they find themselves with new and powerful allies.
When Mark decides to take things into his own hands, Kareni, the owner of the connected bookstore to their shop calls Dez right away. He gets a head start, but he and his pack are able to home in on Sawyer’s location to take care of the situation. Gavin is left to handle Mark in his own way, but it didn’t seem too brutal. I’m hoping Gavin gets his own story soon. I want to know the story behind his silence and reluctance. And, of course, Dez and Sawyer get their HEA.
Happy reading!
* I received an ARC of this book and I am leaving my honest review. *
I truly enjoyed reading this intriguing slow-burn MM wolf shifter romance, it is a fantastic start to the series “The Wolves of Kismet” The characters are well-developed & interesting, they react with believable emotion feelings to the situations they find themselves in. The story-line and plot is interesting, well-thought out & written, it captures the reader’s attention from the first page.
It is about: a feisty omega wolf shifter (Sawyer Holt) on the run from a despicable, murderous alpha (Mark) who is wants to claim him & Sawyer makes it to a small town (Kismet) where he accidentally comes into contact with an alpha shifter pack comprising of three friends (Desmond aka Dez, Asher aka Ash & Gavin) & the futures starts to look promising.
There is: some twists, intrigue, suspense, drama, humor, action, adventure, threats, some violence, conflict, memories, confusion, explanations, protectiveness, loyalty, trust, acceptance, strange attractions, camaraderie, pack issues, deceit, attempted manipulations, shifting, playfulness, pack meeting, alliance overtures, heat issues, a claiming, disagreements, abduction, confrontation, ultimatums, love, some steam, contentment & a happy ending. I look forward to the next book in this series with great anticipation.
What I appreciated most about this book is how perfectly balanced everything is, that nothing about it felt like too much . The pull between Sawyer and Dez isn’t too strong or overpowering, there’s also non of the exaggerated alpha posturing or needy omega that I could seldom find in other shifter books. Not too much drama or violence, too much angst or too much sweetest, for that matter.
Nor are any of the characters too perfect. Quite the contrary, actually. Dez has to use a cane to walk because of an injured leg and suffers of painful flashbacks both from his childhood and his time in the military. And Sawyer certainly isn’t the flawless, meek and nurturing little omega, but a sassy, headstrong and opinionated one. A broken alpha falls for a “faulty” omega, yet they are amazingly perfect for each other.
In Wolf Lost by Sam Burns, a small pack of four wolves are trying to make a home for themselves in the town of Kismet. Different personalities blend together into the sweetest, lovable family unit. I adore Dez,Sawyer,Ash and Gavin, their interactions and banter kept me entertained all through the book.
You shouldn’t miss the beginning of their adventures because I’m sure the other books in this series will be as great as this one.
