Read it years ago and am looking forward to reading it again. Not so much a apocalypse story, but a story of personal strength, and man’s ability to meet a challenge and overcome it.
I have read hundreds of sci fi books over the decades, and a post apocalyptic theme is one of my favorites. This book is notable for its attention to realistic details. It manages to paint a picture of what a world would look like if basic infrastructure technology failed. But it does so in an entertaining way. About the only contrivance is some …
Great EMP book with an academic and a wolf.
Thought provoking
Was really pulling for the main character- hated the bear fight though… to realistic
The good guy and girl win.
I keep thinking about these characters. I wish there was a series!
An old favorite in paperback, I really wanted an ebook copy of this. This may be the quintessential post-apocalyptic book. It is a tale of one man who becomes involved in a complex interaction and friendship with a wolf while trying to escape the madness engulfing the urban areas, looking for a place to live in a remote area. Rather preachy, not like his Dorsai books.
The story was great. Lots of situations and resolutions. I had the audible version which I played on a long multi day road trip. I did not like the reader who seemed to focus and dwell on each and every word and especially any adjective . But the story was engaging and was a great way to drive away the miles.
Interesting concepts on the future with enough action to keep reading.
very good
One of the best books of the author.
Really enjoyed the book. Could hardly put it down for meals and laundry. I loved the wolf too. Hope for a sequel to find out what happens next.
SLOW. Did I say SLOW?
I liked this author in Sci Fi but this was a goo apocoliptic novel! Pretty realistic.
Great read!
A Classic of Post Apocalypse Fiction.
Good story line and characters. The “how did it happen” portion not fully explained but plausible.
Great read. I have read this book four or five times. I always find something I missed.
Not a great book, the detail is fantastic, but this is a tried and true narrative about individuals triumphing over their circumstances, post apocalypse. No surprises, not true setbacks.
