The “wonderfully creative, seamless, and stirring” debut novel in the Sword of Truth epic fantasy series by the #1 New York Times bestselling author (Kirkus). Terry Goodkind’s debut novel, Wizard’s First Rule, was a phenomenon from the moment it was first published by Tor Books in 1994. In it, readers are drawn into the magical New World, where ordinary Westland forest guide Richard Cypher … Westland forest guide Richard Cypher accepts his extraordinary destiny. When the beautiful and mysterious Kahlan Amnell appears in Richard’s forest seeking help, his humble world is turned on its head. After proving that he can wield the Sword of Truth, Richard knows that a confrontation with Darken Rahl looms. But Kahlan beseeches him to reach beyond his sword and invoke his inner nobility in order to face the dangerous challenges ahead.

Good solid book. As usual with his works, it’s very long. But very detailed and not a drag to get through. It just didn’t hook me quite enough to wade into the rest of the series, but I tend to wander away from series a lot.
Author is always a good read. Character development keeps you on edge.
Amazing story with well thought out characters. Also the entire series is wonderful.
I have the complete set of Sword of Truth books Most are long but most are good
I read this book about 3-4 times…. I enjoyed it so much….I couldn’t put it down every time reading…
The author has so many stupid ideas in his books. The one that stands out in my mind is where the bad guy has some kid buried up to his neck and feeds him some crap but makes him think it’s Turkish Delight or some such nonsense. Srsly?
I loved it and read the entire series. Terry Goodkind is one of my favorite authors.
Good story at first but the whole series gets really rapey. Rape, another rape, almost rape, rape aftermath, more rape. Abandoned the series after the first three books or so…
Author’s political viewpoint too much on display in this and subsequent books in this series.
This series is awesome! May be time to reread them!
A great start to a great series
Excellent start of a too long series. I read it while confined to a hospital bed, it definitely made my days go by fast! Destiny and love, cruel wizard and a couple of pure-hearted heroes.
Great first book in the series.
I believe I’ve read pretty much all the books in this series and enjoyed them all.
Love this series
I have read books where everything fit together perfectly to form a great story, but this is the ONLY time I have seen it done across an entire series of books. The only complaint I can come up with is that for intelligent characters I was a bit surprised that it took them 5 books to figure out what I saw in 5 minutes when dealing with the war.
Loved read the entire series.
One of the best books I have read in a long time the whole series is awesome I was hooked after reading the first book
I really, really enjoyed this book and many of the others in the series!
Goodkind is one of the best authors and this entire series is fantastic. Stories suck you in. Lots of entertainment and lots of depth to the plot. A must read.
