The “wonderfully creative, seamless, and stirring” debut novel in the Sword of Truth epic fantasy series by the #1 New York Times bestselling author (Kirkus). Terry Goodkind’s debut novel, Wizard’s First Rule, was a phenomenon from the moment it was first published by Tor Books in 1994. In it, readers are drawn into the magical New World, where ordinary Westland forest guide Richard Cypher … Westland forest guide Richard Cypher accepts his extraordinary destiny. This is a great first novel of Science fiction. The protagonist undergoes transformation, suffering, and great adventure. The whole series after this book is quite uneven, but this is a must read.
I have read all the Wizard’s First Rule’s books, except for the last one. The characters really grabbed you and I really missed them when I finished the books. I have recommended these books to my friends and will probably reread them at some time. In fact, I have been searching to find another storyline that kept my interest like this one. They …
The story was good, but fairly often Terry Goodkind has to through in some sadistic, twisted torture scenes. Blegh. I just couldn’t wade through them anymore.
Absolutely awesome!
LOVED THIS BOOK! I had friends telling me for years “you have got to read this series” but I never got around to it. Now I’m glad I have! I can’t get enough of Richard and his journey. Each book organically develops into a new struggle or challenge that the group must fight to overcome, making them all feel linked rather than disjointed like many …
this book marks the beginning of a wonderful series, the Sword of Truth
Sword of Truth – and a strong arm to wield it – and worthy companions to help against an evil that is intelligent , horrific, and not so easy to defeat –
This b ook has a little too much graphic violence for my tastes but is written exdtremely well.
After not reading fantasy for a long time, I was given this book. It is first in a 12 book series and I am now on book 6. They are exciting, unexpected and hard to put down. Like much fantasy, they tend to be longer novels but worth the trip!
Great book! First book by Terry Goodkind I ever read and it started a true love affair.
Good first book in the series. It sets the tone of the characters for the future books.
I loved this book so much I named by daughter after Kahlan.
This book could easily be described with just one word: Perfect! It has a well described world, interesting characters and an imaginative magic system. I found the resolve equally as satisfying as each part of Kahlan and Richard’s journey. Richard who hasn’t journeyed far in his life, sure he has gone nearer to the boundary than he should, now has …
Fairly violent and incredibly complex. I’m including the rest of the series. I listened to the whole series on my commute and several times I set in the parking lot or garage to finish an especially exciting part. You need to concentrate or you can lose track of what’s going on. A great series and world that Terry is now revisiting.
I read it long ago and have re read it twice !
A well thought out thriller
This book is one of the things that inspired me to start writing fantasy novels. A must read for anyone who loves fantasy. Richard and Kahlan draw you into their world and keep the pages turning!
I loved this book. Terry Goodkind is one of my favorites.
Loved the characters. One of my favorite series!
