The “wonderfully creative, seamless, and stirring” debut novel in the Sword of Truth epic fantasy series by the #1 New York Times bestselling author (Kirkus). Terry Goodkind’s debut novel, Wizard’s First Rule, was a phenomenon from the moment it was first published by Tor Books in 1994. In it, readers are drawn into the magical New World, where ordinary Westland forest guide Richard Cypher … Westland forest guide Richard Cypher accepts his extraordinary destiny. As a Seeker of Truth, Richard is the only one who can stop the tyrannical wizard Darken Rahl from seizing the all-powerful Boxes of Orden.
When the beautiful and mysterious Kahlan Amnell appears in Richard’s forest seeking help, his humble world is turned on its head. I shall begin with a word of caution; if you enjoy the first book in the Sword of Truth series be prepared for a long, wonderful, powerful journey with some of the best characters you shall meet. Once started you cannot stop. Ah, but its worth the investment as we discover in this first book as we encounter Richard Cypher, a woods guide who saves …
This is one of my favorite series (not just because there’s a fabulous character named Jennsen in later volumes).
I really enjoyed this book, the character interactions were spot on and at times very funny. The action never stopped, putting this book down to go to bed was very difficult. My favorite character from this book is Zed, I found him the most amusing and layered; I often missed him when he wasn’t in a chapter. I also found Darken Rahl weirdly …
I love this book so much. I love the way Terry goodkind wrote It, i love the characters. This book is so, so dope. I promise you if you read it, you won’t regret it.
This is one of the Best Books Ever!!! If you have never read it, do. My librarian recommended it to me and I couldn’t put it down, also read the other books in the series as well, they are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!
I love all of the books in this series.
Loved this book. If you’ve not read it… give it a shot!
Love this book. Couldn’t put it down!
My favorite reading experience is when the author gets next-level creative and comes up with something totally new. Terry Goodkind is a master of ingenuity in literature. I’m only docking a star b/c good lord does that man go on and on with descriptive detail. That, I don’t enjoy as much. lol
It was a good story, but since its’ release so many better stories have been written. It would be a good book and series for young teens that want more than Tolkien can offer, but who aren’t quite ready to tackle “The Wheel of Time”.
Amazing series that teaches great lessons; while crafting an incredible world, with deeply developed, dynamic characters. There is a bit of everything in the series; fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles…..
PRO’s: Very good start and I’m excited to continue reading the series. Great story, but where this book really shines is in the relationships and better than average wit. This book also plays on the sexual tension between Richard and Kahlan. The nice thing is that there is not overt sex between the mains, but definite tension**(see cons below). …
First be aware that parts of it are rather NSFW, though not pornographic.
With that said, it’s a good book but I can’t recommend it. It feels like one of those series starters that would have been great as a standalone, but the author put the best work into the first book and there isn’t enough left to carry through in the rest of the series, …
Great story. Great characters.
The stories that Wheeler comes up with are always so entertaining. From magic, to love, to winning battles it’s always an amazing ride
Start of a great series
A bad S/M porn story sandwiched in an indifferent fantasy.
This is an excellent series for all readers of fantasy!
This series is a classic. The later books get a little weary, but consider this: The first ten books are tremendous. Granted, fantasy is not Mil-Sci-Fi, but these books are absorbing. Terri Goodkind will be missed.
It captivated me when I was in a low place. Gave me a reason to keep turning pages.
