Hollis Capparelli had always been different than most girls. A pint-sized spitfire with a take-no-crap attitude, her focus had always been soccer, music, family, and friends.Chase Merrimack loved football more than anything. With dreams of playing professionally, there was only enough room in his heart for his momma and his little brother. That is, until Hollis quite literally stumbled into his … into his life, changing both of them forever.
From the very beginning, Hollis and Chase, along with their friends and family, knew their connection was the kind that only came around once in a lifetime. “Soul mates,” they said. But no matter how strong the pull was, Hollis and Chase avoided their feelings. And they for sure never spoke of them…until the day they did.
Without Warning is the story of Hollis Capparelli and Chase Merrimack, their friendship and the universal pull that kept bringing them back together.

I’m slowly but surely making my way through every Lagasse book, because I’m always happy when I read them. Without Warning did not disappoint! A slow burn, friends to lovers, made me feel so many things. Nostalgic for my best friend and all the things we could’ve been, the large close knit family I never had, and the love story of Chase and Hollis.
As Lagasse’s debut I can definitely see how her writing has changed, only getting more amazing in time. I loved the way this book started, having me hooked from page one. The close family and the way chase and hollis interact. I do wish there was more present showing of their relationship growing, more of they always loved each other but not seeing it. I loved this book for Chase, the type of book boyfriend everyone should be fighting over. Another great read by Lagasse, I’ll be sad when I finally catch up to reading all her books.
What a fantastic friends-to-lovers story!
This is one of my favorite tropes, but it’s also one I’m very careful about because it can be very frustrating. Indeed, there were moments of frustration for me (mostly with Chase) but for the most part I just absolutely adored the sort of effortless transition to lovers. I totally bought into the chemistry between Hollis and Chase, and I found their relationship fun, flirty, and emotionally satisfying.
This is a book I dug up from the depths of my TBR and I’m so glad I finally gave it a chance! I’m circling back to the second book now. The writing is relatable and smart and the storytelling was so easy to fall into. I loved this story and can’t wait for more!
I honestly borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited by accident. I clicked on it because of the cover and it was such a fantastic accident. I was pulled in right away by the big and loving Capparelli family and the humor in the writing. Hollis and Chase were a friends to lovers with a slow burn, light on the hot scenes but heavy with love. I couldn’t put down this book and I’m excited to see how this family and this world continue on.
Often you expect a debut novel to lack fully developed storylines and characters, but this was not the case with Without Warning. Ms. Lagasse did a wonderful job blending her main characters with her secondary characters. Everyone had a place and you felt like you knew them. The story was engaging, fun, heartfelt, sad at times, funny, full of love–just a perfect blend of emotions, which is what I look for in a good read. There was a great mix of family, friends, exes, and people you want to throw things at. I’m very impressed at the thought that went into this story, and can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next.
A love story a long time coming. Best friends forever and fighting their feeling, their time comes. But it’s not always as easy as it seems! I loved Their personalities and the family!!! So many wonderful characters that instantly grew on me!!! Couldn’t absorb it all fast enough!!
I don’t know what it is about the friends to lovers trope but it has my heart. Without Warning (Capparelli & Co, #1) certainly delivered on my favorite trope. It had the witty banter that any friendship should have, the sexual tension, the development of the friendship, and the “home run” if you know what I mean. All of the other characters helped along the story line as well. I loved the relationship/friendship that is between Chase and Hollis but all of the other characters as well. They were all described as a very close knit family/unit and it showed in the writing and in the way the characters were written. I could easily imagine them in my every day real life.
Without Warning by Dee Lagasse was the first book I have read by this author. I won this book in a giveaway and I’m so glad I did. I will certainly be looking for more of her work. It certainly sounds like Capparellia & Co. is going to be a series so I will be looking for the next one.

ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
I have been anticipating this book for months now. This is a stunning debut novel from Dee, and I honestly could not put it down.
I would have read it in one sitting, had it not been for the fact that I started it late and night and then had to get up early the next morning. After completing my Sunday morning plans, I promptly plonked myself in bed, determined to finish this story and get to know Hollis and Chase.
This is a friends to lovers romance, which is always a trope that I love and enjoy. Hollis and Chase have been part of each others lives since they were in high school, and their families are close knit as well. There is a very strong family theme in this book which is great. I loved the family dynamics and seeing all these characters interact.
Hollis and Chase are just really sweet and fun characters that had me turning every page and just wanting them to get together and see how good it would be. Chase is damned adorable and Hollis is a great strong female lead.
There are plenty of fun secondary characters and I cannot wait for more from this world.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which made me laugh, swoon and nearly cry at its sweetness at other times. All of the feels in this one.
I highly recommend. It may only be Dee’s first novel, but I guarantee it won’t be her last and that you will enjoy this if you pick it up.
