This is where it starts for me with Clancy. Grit and go get the bad guys.
Clancy gets deeply personal and raw in the “origins” tale of the mysterious agent Clarke in this novel. Less layered in plot and more character driven than just about any other of his novels, this is a story of violence, pride, love, and revenge that centers on the subset of human culture that makes the dark news headlines: drug dealers, black ops, police corruption, and those that work around these areas with the murky goal of “doing good”. Not for the faint of heart, it is often graphically violent, and the “good guys” do not so much “win” as come out of it transformed into “darkly good” mediators of often covert justice.
A great back story to a very important character in most of this authors books. Gives you a better connection to the character of John Clark.
My first encounter with Tom Clancy was with The Hunt for Red October. After that, I read most of what he wrote, but then for some reason I stopped reading him. When I saw this first-in-a-series offered recently I decided to give him another try but frankly I wondered how his writing would hold up over the years. I needn’t have worried… this book gripped me from the first page. Tom Clancy knows his stuff when it comes to how things work in the intelligence community, which makes the reader feel they’re an insider. A great read and I’m looking forward to more in this series.
Before Jack Reacher came John Clark as the anti hero with his own code.
tHE iNTODUCTION OF JOHN CLARK INTO THE RYANVERSE
All of Clancy’s books are great!
A long book… starts out with a great first 120 pages of deeply personal and raw emotion, then to only leave you wondering why I should even read on. Action packed but not worth the 600 pages endeavor
My absolute favorite of Clancy’s books and I’ve read them all. Best character of all, even better than Jack Ryan, but just.
I love all of Tm Clancey’s books. About the time you think you gave the bad guy figured out…… you don’t.
One of Clancy’s best novels. I love this character. John Clark is awesome and this is his intro into the Clancy books.
I’ve read several of Tom Clancy’s books and this one was easily my favorite. A tremendous job of storytelling. It was fascinating and enthralling. In fact, I finished it and turned to the beginning and read it again. I’ve only done that with a few books in my life and this one was worth it. Excellent!
Great introduction to John Clark and how he became who he is. Deep emotions and vivid detail
Kind of darker than most in the series. Gives a good back story for Mr. Clark
Book was excellent read.
This book is a great read, fast-pasted and the good guy kicks ass yearn. An enjoyable action packed book and the beginning of a great series. Blue skies and fair winds to you all.
Can’t go wrong with Clancy….especially the tales featuring Mr. Clark.
One of my favorite Tom Clancy books
What can I say? Clancy does it again! He’s never written a book I didn’t enjoy.
I liked it very much.
