When trouble walks in, there’s no choice but to hold on tight for the ride. Two years before, Shaw Woodward watched the love of his life walk down the aisle to another man. Since then, life has kicked him in the balls and lifted him up several times. Just so happens he’s on the downward dip of that cycle right now. After a difficult mission in the Ranger Ops unit, he’s struggled to keep his focus, … struggled to keep his focus, and his captain is forcing him to seek help. He just never expected to walk into the shrink’s office to find the woman he loved seated behind the desk in sexy secretary glasses with her blonde hair in a confining bun he wants to unravel.
Atalee Franklin has experienced a lot of highs and lows lately—a marriage and a divorce to name a couple. As a psychologist, she’s passionate about helping people through their most difficult moments, but then in walks Shaw, the gorgeous, muscled friend of her ex-husband, and also some of the reason her marriage failed.
With another shot at a relationship in his sights, can Shaw actually get his head clear enough to move forward? Leaving the Ranger Ops isn’t even a possibility—the only way they’ll strip him from the unit is by putting him in the ground. Atalee only wants Shaw to find peace while doing something he loves, though her worries for him are real. Losing him a second time isn’t even an option…

Shaw loved his best friend Johnny’s girlfriend Atalee. He tells her right before her wedding and she rejects him. Two years later she’s divorced and back in his life and he’s hoping that he can get her to love him just as much as he still loves her. I love this series. The story and characters are developed and interesting.
Again I’m reading a series out of order. With this one I think I might have been better off starting with the first book. I’m not quite sure of how a Texas Ranger becomes part of Ranger Ops which appears to be far more military in nature.
That said this book does address some PTSD issues that the hero Shaw is experiencing. He does however have a history with the woman assigned as his therapist.
Atalee was about to marry his friend Johnny, when at the urging of his father, Shaw tells her he’s always loved her and to go through with the marriage would be a mistake. Somehow the words Shaw spoke that day never left her and now divorced with her degree and a new position at the VA Atatee is building a new life. The life she had planned before her disaster of a marriage.
Because of the alias used for the appointment Atalee didn’t know it was Shaw that was her patient. So many memories surface including the kiss he gave her that fateful day.
The nature of his job with Ranger Ops has him leaving on missions at a moments notice, and appointments are missed even though in all actuality Atalee can’t be his therapist because of their connection.
Atalee decides to stop by his place after a couple of appointments have been missed. What she finds surprises her.
Of course things don’t go completely smooth, but they mostly do as far as the relationship goes. He doesn’t go for therapy though and he actually finds help in a totally different environment.
We also meet Shaw’s father and Atalee’s mother who seem to strike up their own sort of relationship.
Slow revelations and white hot heat along with interesting glimpses of missions. Plus a nice lead in to what I presume will be the next book in this series.
I definitely have to go back to read the first book in this series for a better understanding of Ranger Ops in general.
This second book in the Ranger Ops series can be read as a standalone.
After reading the prologue, I was pleasantly surprised when Shaw and Atalee reconnected with such ease. I expected there to be more angst involved and was happy when the angst did not appear.
This was a second chance romance so to speak. Shaw and Atalee got the chance to figure out who the other person had become during their separation.
There was plenty of danger and action, some of which Atalee got to experience with Shaw. There was also the the love, romance, and abundance of steamy scenes. Let’s not forget the friendship, loyalty, and brotherhood of Ranger Ops that often integrated with Knight Ops. All in all, a good, fast paced read.

Em Petrova has done it again with this amazingly awesome book. Sexy cowboys and falling in love, Within Range is a definite must read.
Shaw Woodward is an ex-Texas Ranger turned Special Ops for the Homeland Security. Two years ago he spoke up for the woman he loved– at her own wedding to his best friend– and was soundly rejected. Atalee Franklin is the love of his life and knowing that she will never be his just about flays him. Transfering out of the Texas Rangers and into being a Special Operative for Ranger Ops is exactly what he needs as a diversion and to move forward with his life. He loves the action and adrenalin rush. What he does not expect is for the killing of a terrorist to weigh heavily on his heart and mess with his mind during future missions. He needs help ASAP or next mission it could be one of his teammates being killed due to his mind games. Admitting that it is time to see a shrink is not easy. Walking in and seeing that the shrink assigned to help is the woman who after 2 years still holds the key to his heart? Is life giving him a second chance or playing a sick joke on him? Can Shaw find it within himself to be brave enough to open his damaged mind and heart up to a woman who literally crushed him in the past?
I am absolutely loving author Em Petrova’s Ranger Ops series! There is nothing like a seriously hot Alpha male who is not afraid to show the one they love that they are flawed and vulnerable. The characters are well developed, raw and relatable. The plot is interesting and well defined. Shaw and Atalee’s sexual chemistry is through the roof HOT! Honestly, there is not one thing about “Within Range”not to like!

It was another wonderful Cowboy read for me – loved it!
I really enjoyed this romance. Shaw and Atalee share a history that is very painful and to say the least complicated. This past and their new patient/therapist roles combine together into a complex story that will snag and hold your attention. Lots of stream, drama and humor are combined with rich, deep emotions to make a book that will easily touch your heart.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It was action packed , second chance , romance . The characters are great as is

Em Petrova has proven that not only are spin-off series viable, but that the second book in said series can be even better than the first! Within Range is a heartfelt and emotional read, that showcases the devastation inflicted on a soldier’s mental health from the immeasurable loss caused by war, and the soul deep longing he has for a woman who effortlessly broke his heart.
A storyline with depth and hope, and a passion that ignites the true romantic in us all, Within Range is definitely a keeper. The character portrayals are believable and engaging, with Shaw and Atalee front and centre to reel us all in; and the world building adds substance to the background story and the lives that are now affected by events of the past. This is most certainly one of my favourites reads this year, and I’m eager as always for the next exciting addition to this series.
“Within Range” (Ranger Ops Book 2) by Em Petrova is a terrific read. I loved Shaw and Atalee’s story. This is a great addition to this series. This story is packed with action, romance, passion, second chances, hot heroes, entertaining characters, humor, and more. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of the Ranger Ops team. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, action, lawmen, military, and series.
A great read that encompasses a whole lot when dealing with Special Forces, in this case Ranger Ops.
Shaw and Atalee cross paths 2 years after some painful feelings and words between them. Shaw knew he loved Atalee and pursued her with the mindset of a soldier–he wasn’t giving up. Loved their interactions, the heat, the heartfelt convos and the playful ones too, the brushes with danger all made for some fast page turning. Lots of characters throughout so I wonder who’s next.
This ends on a happy note, but anxiously wait for more in the series

I loved this intense and emotional romance!
Shaw laid his heart at Atalee’s feet just before she married his best friend, Johnny. Two years later, she and Johnny are divorced, she’s working for the VA, and Shaw’s last mission has spun him around to the point where he needs a little direction to find his center again. As chances have it, he walks into Atalee’s office for counseling but leaves with a plan to make full use of his second chance with her.
What could have been a simple second-chance romance turns out to be so much more because Shaw’s job is the very definition of unpredictable. Their love story is so beautifully told against the backdrop of the ongoing missions that continue to mess with Shaw’s focus and the new worries that Atalee has to deal with as the partner of a spec-ops team member.
This story is so much more than expected as we learn more about the Ranger Ops team, their missions, their members, and the risks they take in the line of duty. If you love military heroes like I do, this series should be on your must-read list, and this book is a fine place to start. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
The next book in the Ranger Ops series, there’s an additional treat of some interaction with the Knights (a bonus for fans of theirs). This book opens with a real shock – a complete are you serious moment, establishing a history for Shaw and Atalee. Him finding her as his therapist later just seems right – and so does their relationship. As always with Em Petrova’s books, there is a great storyline, and the characters are well drawn – and this has some of her best dialogue. The dual POV enhances the story, and I for one can’t wait for the third in the series.

Shaw and Atalee have history. They also have chemistry that is off the charts. I love Atalee’s drive, softness, and willingness to see where the path that she sets upon with Shaw is going to go. I love Shaw’s loyalty, his strength and his love of country and brotherhood. This was absolutely a five star story.

I’ve fallen for all of these Ops guys. While there’s still some adventures and intensity in this book, this one is more about the past and a second chance for Woody. Having a mission stuck in his head causing some issues on current situations, he’s got to get his head back on straight. The one person that he’d loved for years is the one that can help him, and heal his heart in the process. I cannot wait for more!

2nd chance for Shaw to get it right. On her wedding day Shaw told Atalee that he was in love with her and she should not marry his best friend because he could not love her the way she needed to be loved.
Atalee told him to get lost and she got married. 2 years later, she is divorced and starting a new job. When Shaw walks in her office.
Now find out what has happened in their lives and what the future holds.
Strong independent characters who both help others, but in very different ways.

I enjoyed this book. The characters were very likeable.
I loved Shaw’s dad Woody and Atalee’s mom.
For me there could have been more details about missions.
There was also another part that I wished the author would have went into detail about. It was right before the epilogue. But sadly the author didn’t.

I would love to give more stars if I could. I just love this series. I was a HUGE fan of the Knight Ops series and was depressed once all the Knights had their story told. I am so glad that Ms. Petrova developed the Ranger Ops series.
While you don’t have to read the first story to read this one, I would highly encourage that it be read first. There is a section here were Shaw and Atalee go to a park. He pulls her to sit on his lap and a man appears at his window. Well after all is said and done and a few other Ranger Op men come to back-up Shaw, Nate as the leader questions Atalee to give details. As she describes what happens, Nash turns to Shaw and his comment just blew me away. I had to stop reading as I was laughing so hard I almost snorted like a pig!
Atalee and Shaw are two great characters. I just adored reading their story. I really get depressed when I see the words, “The End”. Say what?! Couldn’t it have been extended for another 10 years?!
The dual POV format really was a joy here. Atalee and Shaw are so in love and reading their thoughts really were cute at times.
This is a steamy read so I recommend for 18+ readers.
