USA TODAY calls Ryan and Manis the “ideal romance-writing duo.” With These Two Hands is book four in The Sumner Brothers Series but it can be read as a stand-alone book. Or start with the first book, Born to be My Baby! He was on top of the world. She’s hit rock bottom. Heart surgeon, Aaron Sumner would rather be in the operating arena than anywhere else in the world. With a scalpel in his … bottom.
Heart surgeon, Aaron Sumner would rather be in the operating arena than anywhere else in the world. With a scalpel in his hand, he knew who he was and what he was out on this earth to do. A tremor tears it all away from him. After more than a decade away, he’s coming home to Canyon Creek to see if there’s a place for him in the small town he once loved. With his head so screwed up, there’s no place in his life for any more complications.
Dr. Kayleigh Montgomery is a complication. He didn’t expect the woman who put him in his place at his brother’s wedding to be the one to show him there’s more to life than an operating table and sleepless nights.
If Kayleigh Montgomery’s upbringing among Boston’s elite taught her anything, it’s that accepting help from others means letting them control you. She walked away from the family money and moved across the country. With her vet business failing, holding it all together seems impossible. Even more impossible? Ignoring the way her heart races when Aaron Sumner offers his helping hands. But she needs to do just that if she’s going to stay focused where she needs to be: on her work, her livelihood, and her success. Anything less would mean admitting failure.
They didn’t plan to be lovers, and they sure don’t want to be friends, but in the town of Canyon Creek, there’s no avoiding the inevitable: falling in love.

I adored this book!
It’s a sexy, funny, & touching story.
The emotions, the humor & their chemistry pulled me in, & kept me hooked.
Kayleigh Montgomery is the only Veterinarian, in Canyon Creek. Because
of a special grant, if she can’t make a
go of her practice, she will have to leave. Stubbornly, failure is not success.
She’s not willing to accept help from anyone.
Aaron Sumner is Cardiac Thoracic surgeon in Chicago. He was given
sad news recently about his continuing
as a surgeon. He was given a six month leave. Aaron decides to come home
& spend the time with his family.
Aaron has been helping his mentor
& friend out at his office. As much as
he loves being a heart surgeon, he is enjoying working with the people of Canyon Creek.
Kayleigh & Aaron did not hit it off when they first met. He said she was just a
“pet Doctor”. They seem to always picker, that is, until they kissed.
As Kayleigh & Aaron are spend time together, their chemistry is undeniable.
A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!!
With These Two Hands is the fourth book in the Canyon Creek series and it is fantastic. Aaron Sumner returns to Canyon Creek to help his family deal with the current financial issues they are dealing with. They all know there is more to why Aaron is back since you can’t simply put a medical fellowship on hold but they are waiting for him to tell them when he’s ready. Kayleigh Montgomery, local pet doctor, on the other hand will push him until she knows the truth. I loved these two together. Neither lets the other slide on anything making them face things head on and deal with them. Their banter is fun and sexy. You can feel the chemistry between them. Their story is very well done and I think everyone will enjoy it. I highly recommend.
Kayleigh & Aaron both need to learn something about themselves before they’ll ever be happy. Kayleigh needs to realize asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Everyone needs help at some point of their life. She needs to realize that turning away from those that love her hurts her, more than them & it won’t change anything. Aaron needs to remember what his dreams used to be & that there is no shame in changing dreams. It doesn’t make you a failure. Everyone has dreams for different times in their lives. The key is to realize it & keep your dreams growing as you grow.
Both main characters are well developed & three dimensional, along with strengths & flaws like real people. It just makes them more realistic. The journey they must go on to find each other has pitfalls they must navigate & rely on each other for. They come to realize that support gives them strength to overcome their difficulties. Another great story from two talented authors!
We are back in Canyon Creek, a place where the small town atmosphere is alive and well and where the Sumner brothers grew up. Now successful men, they are little by little returning home and staying. Not only to help with the family vacation lodge, but because they have fallen in love.
This story belongs to Aaron Sumner and Kayleigh Montgomery. He is a heart surgeon with a fellowship in Chicago , she is the town’s veterinarian trying to prove herself to her family and to herself. One has been given a leave of absence due to tremors that will likely destroy his career, while the other one is struggling to meet ends , but refuses to ask for help. In her eyes, that would be considered a failure.
Suffice is to say, when these two meet, the attraction is immediate. Claiming they only want a temporary relationship, they start seeing each other.
The plot is engaging and the characters are complex, imperfect and wonderful.
But the story is more than that. It’s about how our experiences during our children, do affect us as adults and how we perceive ourselves. On the other hand, that even when they drive us crazy, family support and loyalties are important.
Another great addition to this series. Though it’s a stand alone, the reader would benefit to have read the previous books since the characters do appear throughout the books.
I voluntarily read this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I’m loving this series
Once again Lori Ryan gives us another heartfelt and well written story. These characters draw you in and fills you up with love and courage. They are so well described and develops nicely. A great supporting cast as always. Wonderful book and series. I love them. They have a nice length and a lot of depth in the stories.
Well worth the read.
This was any enjoyable read, also serving as my introduction to this series. Small town life is depicted with an array of interesting and charming characters that bring this story to life. Dr. Aaron Sumner has returned home, dogged by uncertainty regarding his career. Being home allows him to reflect on what his ambitions and needs are. Dr. Kayleigh Montgomery is smart, and independent. Her need for independence, hinders her ability to accept any overtures of help. When these two meet, sparks ignite as the embark on a temporary relationship. Neither is willing to admit that what they have is the blossoming of something wonderful. Want to know more, you’ll have to read the book in order to enjoy the journey of Aaron and Kayleigh.
Aaron and Kayleigh are my favorite couple in this series so far. Loved both of them! Their playful banter kept me smiling, and the scene with Maggie’s cat, Lucky, at the vet clinic was so funny! Aaron and Kayleigh have a special relationship and I love their unwavering support of each other. I really love the Canyon Creek series and look forward to the next release.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary Advance Reader Copy.
I loved being taken back to Canyon Creek! I have been anxiously waiting for Kayleigh’s story and it was such a great addition to this series.
Kayleigh is a woman on a mission . She chose to rebel against her family and seek her own way in the world. She is a self made woman and the towns best Vet they have ever seen. Aaron is a brilliant heart surgeon that needs a bit of a medical hiatus of his own. He decides to head back to Canyon Creek and make it a family affair. These two strong willed characters constantly butt heads but their is a fine line between love and hate and they soon find themselves balancing that line! Such a great story . THis couple is strong, smart, sexy , and have the most amaxing witty banter. They make each other work harder to be better !! I once again was loving having the entire cast of characters from the previous books! SO good!!
~~Michele McMullen ~~
This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story. This was a enjoyable read. I am glad I read it .
GOODY, GOODY GUM DROPS!!!
Are you guys ready for some really heavy stuff? Nah, I know you’re not but since I’m running this show, I’m it. Just kidding, there’s no show silly. But this is one deep subject and the characters, main and secondary are a real help when needed. Well developed and their bonds were strong. They definitely had each others backs. The two main had an instant connection but they try to ignore it. Thinking that you’re weak if you can’t stand on your own two feet. Some heavy duty lifting and struggles they each face in different forms, but just as intense. It was a fantastic feeling as I watch the two main characters bond was growing stronger and they were both terrified. These two authors seem to have a sixth sense in their thinking process are just have an affinity between themselves. They really work amazingly well to be able to turn out such a page turning masterpiece that keepss you hanging on until the last word. The characters are intriguing, complex and realistic with a true to life form as well as the steady pace to carry us forward. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. All the twists and turns and unexpected surprises really kept me on what felt like a razors edge. I can tell you this is one read you won’t want to miss. I’ve read it over about 3 times already. I don’t think I can give you a stronger response in that. If a book can’t grab my attention within the first couple of chapters then its just torture and I’m gone. This dynamic duo really delivers together they totally nailed this bad boy. Incredible job Ladies, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of With These Two Hands by Lori Ryan. I found this story great.
I really enjoyed reading this story. The well written storyline and wonderful characters kept me reading .This story has a lot of humourous times but an equal amount of serious times . It’s an all around fantastic read. I highly recommend taking the time to read it.
I love the Canyon Creek series. Aaron and Kayleigh were so good together. Even when they were both being irritating. Lol.
Aaron and Kayleigh both needed to look at their futures through a different lens, and they were able to help each other accomplish that.
They were a fun couple who also happened to be funny, sexy, sarcastic, romantic, and loving. You get to revisit the other Canyon Creek characters and experience the warmth, the living family and friends of the small town.
Can’t wait for the next one!
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Book 4 in this wonderful small town romance series….. it keeps getting better. Aaron and Kayleigh’s story gets you in the heart. Kayleigh doesn’t accept help from anyone for fear of it giving anyone control over her which is how she saw it growing up in the upper echelon.
Aaron’s Cardio-Thoracic surgeon career comes to a screeching halt when his tremoring hands don’t respond to medication anymore. He’s lost because that is all he ever wanted to do. So now back in his hometown trying to figure out the rest of his life.
Aaron and Kayleigh had one heart-stopping kiss at his brother’s wedding before he left to go back to work. Neither is going to forget it or admit it sparked for both.
A touching story of acceptance, help, healing, and love. I love the way Ms Ryan and Ms Manis write together. The stories grab you and pull you in for the duration. Sweet, hot, tender and loving.
