Glee Pembroke has turned down countless offers of marriage because she has secretly been in love with her brother’s best friend, Gregory Blankenship, all her life. When she learns Gregory will lose his considerable fortune if he’s not wed by his twenty-fifth birthday, she persuades him to enter into a sham marriage with her. What he doesn’t know is that she plans to win his heart. She will do everything in her power to make him happy – including mimicking the ways of a “fast” woman since he’s noted for alliances with women of that sort.
Why did he ever allow himself to marry the maddening Glee? He’d thought they would have great fun, but at every turn, she exasperates him. Why does she persist in wearing the bodice of her dresses so blasted low? Why do other men persist in flirting with her, his wife? And why in the blazes has his heretofore complacent life been turned upside down by this sham marriage? He finds himself longing for a real marriage, but for reasons he cannot divulge, that can never happen.

What would you do if a man you had been in love with your whole life suddenly had to get married in order to benefit from his late father’s will? What if this man thought of you as friend’s kid sister and nothing more? In this story, Glee makes a deal with Gregory Blankenship to marry him so that Gregory’s younger brother, Jonathan, won’t inherit his father’s estate and leave Gregory penniless. This is a great story that will frustrate you at times, but get ready for a great ending!
It really had me going oh no a lot. She was a very brave lady. I was so happy with how it ended!
There is almost no historical accuracy in this book. Characters are not well developed, and the thought of anyone carting “kitties” around Bath in the 1800’s is a loon.
I expected more of the author and editors.
Unlike Deb@Rookie15, I gave up on this book when the female character endeavors to entrap her brother’s friend into a marriage that she KNOWS he does not want. But she does so anything goes. Even expecting a happily ever after ending is NO excuse for slimly behavior.
A thoroughly enjoyable read. Thank you, Cheryl Bolen.
Great Book, a must read.
This book was a huge disappointment. It was good enough to keep me reading to the end. Beyond that, there wasn’t much I liked about it.
Good, but a bit long winded
Too predictable
I bought the collection to read during Irma evacuation. I needed lighter reading. The first two books I did like, this was the third in the series. I don’t care for it so much. It was redundant so much repeating. It wandered a little bit much for me. Sometimes, I think we all prescirbe too much of today’s thinking on persons of yesterday. But let’s face it, she wrote her book. And that is impressive to me. So, it dragged, but I am reading the next one and will finish the series.
This book was silly, lacked character development, and had little sexual tension. Glad I only paid a buck for it.
Loved this book. Could hardly put it down! I love this author!
Horribly written. Unedited. Cartoon. Kids’ stuff.
The ending was rather abrupt but the story was good.
A cute little historical romance. Just the thing for a bit of light reading when you want to escape from the modern world for a few hours.
Not great, not horrible.
