You think you know the world of magical boarding schools? Not from a teacher’s perspective at a school for at risk youth.Like any twenty-two-year-old who grew up obsessed with fantasy novels, Clarissa Lawrence expects all her Harry Potter fantasies to come true when she is invited to teach at a school for witches. Her dreams of learning magic–and being a good teacher–are complicated when she … when she finds out her deceased mother was the equivalent of the Wicked Witch of the West. As if being the new “arts and crafts” teacher isn’t hard enough at a school for juvenile delinquent witches, budget cuts are just as severe in the magic community, administrators are as unrealistic in their expectations of teachers, and the job is a hazard if the students find out you can’t actually do magic.
Amidst all these challenges, Clarissa must prove she’s not her mother’s mini-me and that she belongs at the school so she can learn to control her powers. If she fails, her powers will be drained, or worse yet, she might be enslaved by the Fae.
As if this isn’t enough pressure, she has to figure out why teachers are mysteriously disappearing. If she doesn’t, she might be next.
This is the third book in the WOMBY’S SCHOOL FOR WAYWARD WITCHES Series, but the first three books can be read in any order.

I loved this book. In fact, I loved the whole series. It’s not a sweet sort of series with rainbows and lollipops so don’t read it if that’s what you’re looking for. But, if you’re looking for an enjoyable book, Read it.
Witches Gone Wicked – a review by Rosemary Kenny
Book 3 in her Womby’s School for Wayward Witches series, is Witches Gone Wicked by Sarina Dorie.
Reluctantly hired as a new teacher at the school where her birth mother was a maligned headteacher, by Headmaster Bumbleby, Clarissa Lawrence has no magic (until suitably tutored by her disagreeable mentor, Mr Thatch), which makes her life rather complicated, to say the least.
She’s glad to make friends with some other staff members, Josephine (‘Josie’) Kimura and Mr Khaba, after being told there is no internet at the school, nor are mobiles or other electronic devices allowed. Her first few weeks are a middle of mischievous student pranks and trying to find out more about her mother’s time at Womby’s.
As she struggles with Mr Thatch as her magical tutor, Charlotte’s grateful for any help she can get, including enchanted sweets, (to soothe both herself and the students if necessary), from an old admirer of her mother’s, still on the school’s
wavelength.
When Womby’s School is attacked, can Charlotte help defend it and prove her innocence and that of a pupil?

Hogwarts does not have to worry about having competition from Womby’s. Womby’s is downright medieval compared to Hogwarts. Or would that be medi-evil? The author has really thought about what it would mean to be a muggle-trained noobie witch in a very witchy institution without all the conveniences we techie types take for granted. The ‘evil sciences’ of algebra and engineering and cellphones as weapons? Wow! How would we survive? Clarissa managed – sorta. Let’s see how she does next.
I received an ARC from Hidden Gems and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Clarissa wants nothing more than to be a great art teacher and learn magic. She thinks Thatch is out to get her all the time. She constantly breaks all the rules and makes excuses, then wonders why no one is on her side. Her maturity level is in line with her students. She tries really hard, though. She just wants the truth about herself and her mom that you can’t help but to side with her. Absolutely loved this book!
This series whole is an enjoyable romp, with many memorable characters, and frequent references to Star Trek, Harry Potter, My Little Pony, art and music. My advice is to get the several Book Bundles and start from Womby’s School for Wayward Witches Series Books 1-5: Not-So-Cozy Witch Mysteries (Womby’s School for Wayward Witches Series Bundle Book 1). It’s definitely best to “binge” read the whole series in order. One book leads right into the next, and it’s nice to be able to continue without interruption.
Clarissa has already had many interesting adventures, first as a “morty” high-school student, not even fully realizing she is a witch, but hoping she is, and that she will be accepted to a school for witches like Hogwarts. It turns out she has such powerful potential skills, which she doesn’t even realize she has, and that she cannot control, that she is too dangerous to be accepted into Womby’s School for Wayward Witches as a student. However, her powers are so strong that she eventually MUST be taken into Womby’s for her own safety, the safety of the mortal world, and to keep her powers from the Raven Court, other fae, and even from other witches. But not as a student; instead she is hired as a teacher, despite having fewer witch’s powers and capabilities than any of the students she is supposed to be teaching. Her adventures as a teacher without magic in a class of young witches are hilarious gets off to a fiery start as she sets her classroom on fire. Then she learns she will not be allowed to use her magic, until her nemesis, Felix Thatch, teaches her. Her interactions with her fellow teachers, who are all accomplished witches, and all of whom hate her because of her evil witch mother, are priceless.
The entertaining and enjoyable witchy mystery continues in book 3 of Womby’s School for Wayward Witches by Sarina Dorie, as Clarissa searches for the identity of her power as well as trying to learn how to control it before she kills someone else. The author puts her characters through a lot of twists and turns as the story covers lust, love, betrayal, mystery and of course magic. The book also weaves it way through various characters that Clarissa is trying to determine whether she can trust them or not and whether they mean her harm or not in her teaching career and her life in general. Looking forward to the next book in the series. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.
I enjoyed this book. It is the third book in the series. The main character Clarissa has to find her place in the new magical world she now lives in and discover her own magic. It is interesting to follow her adventure. I like some of the other characters that are introduced in this book. I am enjoying this series and look forward to reading the next book.
If you miss Harry Potter and the magic, this is a series for you.
Witches Gone Wicked is book three in the Womby’s School For Wayward Witches. We have a wonderful heroin who teaches at Womby’s and just discovered she has powers. Clarissa, a teacher of art at Womby’s, seems to have a knack for mishaps that, with the help of mischievous teenagers, get out of control in a hurry. We have a place where laughter, trouble, mystery and learning many of life’s lessons abound. This is a series that has great world building and wonderfully well developed characters. It is a thoroughly enjoyable read and I look forward to reading this series. Even though it has some similarities to Harry Potter, it stands on its own merits and one I highly recommend. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Received a free copy for a review. This book was entertaining and interesting.
Wickedly Awesome!
Our wonderful heroine has found out who and what she is! Clarissa still didn’t get a Hogwarts letter, instead she got a teaching contract! A magnet for trouble, Clarissa’s mishaps make the world a humorous place. Add in mischievous teenagers and life at Womby’s School for Wayward Witches is the place for laughter, trouble, mystery, and learning all manner of life lessons. Once again this book ends in a cliffhanger, that leaves you wanting more. Wonderfully written and a great YA book.
A fantastical, magical realm has been created by Ms. Dorie for the telling of this tale. Great characterizations. All characters were well developed and had great depth to them. Although not overtly a romantic tale, there are glimmerings of a smouldering romance occurring between the two main male and female characters. This story was rich in flavour and provided this reader with much entertainment. I felt like I was right there with the characters in this fantasy world. There was an excellent story line that included murder, mysteries, intrigue, drama, adventure and refreshingly, some humour via puns, wry and acerbic types. The story ends; however, there is certainly a wide open door for a continuation of tale.
I am new to this author but hope to change this in the future. Excellent writing … very engaging. This was a thoroughly enjoyable long read. I highly recommend this read.
I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this novel via Voracious Readers and I am leaving an honest and unbiased review. I have no affiliation to the author nor to this group.
Wow! The story just seriously took off! All kinds of things started to happen to Clarissa when she gets to the school! I loved it!
Book3 Witches Gone Wicked by Sarina Dorie
[YA, Paranormal school] 4 1/2s
I thoroughly enjoyed this, even though I have not read the previous books in the series. The author builds her characters and setting on the skeleton of real world references, just enough to make her fantastical school seem possible in this what-if world. I actually want to read the other books in this series, which is saying something for a dyslexic reader.
