The mystery of Shifter cat Breena’s past is revealed, and it wasn’t something Pepper Jasper suspected.A puzzling murder at Mugwort Manor throws suspicion onto Breena. With Lucas in danger and Aunt Agnes missing, can Pepper navigate her way through agents sent by The Other to reveal secrets that perhaps should be best left hidden?
I enjoy Morgana Best books. They are entertaining. Witches’ Cat is part of a series. I don’t have any problem reading them out of order as everything does wrap up. However some things do flow better if you have read the prior books.
In Witches’ Cat we are back with Valkyrie, (yes I know..Pepper. I just love Valkyrie.), and her aunts. I adore her aunts! In this book an unpleasant relative has died, bringing her just as unpleasant daughter and granddaughter home. Thoughts of an inheritance will often do that. Everyone thinks it was just her time but the aunts come across some interesting information and become convinced it was murder. The dead person was not a liked person and more than one person had a reason to wish her dead. There were plenty of suspects. I loved that and the twists, turns and discoveries that had me constantly changing my mind about who did it. It was a highly entertaining book, balanced well with the mystery and a good dose of humor. I recommend reading this book, as well as, the series.
*I was given a digital copy for review consideration. I voluntarily reviewed and all opinions are my honest feelings after reading it.*
Way good! I Laughed hard. I chuckled every time I think about. Now, that’s truly a book story and author!
witches, vampires, supernatural, dachshunds, situational-humor, verbal-humor, murder-investigation, greed, family-dynamics
If I hadn’t already been waiting for a new book by Morgana, I would have been hooked near the beginning when the new sausage hound made his entrance! Pepper has these aunts who own a B&B, are older than dirt, are as funny as can be, and also happen to be witches. There was a murder recently, and now an unpleasant elder relative is also dead and the police think it’s just old age but Pepper is certain that it’s murder. There are enough suspects because the woman was a real piece of work, as are her greedy and grasping daughter and granddaughter. The sleuthing becomes dangerous, but the fun never stops! I loved it of course!
Ms. Best has given us another fun book in the series. Pepper and her zany aunts investigate the death of the widow of one of their previous tenants who was also murdered at the B&B. They suspect Brenna, the cat shifter, and the woman’s daughter and granddaughter. Lucas has gone out of town with Pepper’s parents so he is not any help. I am looking forward to the next installment of this series.
Oh no…another murder of the widow of one of the previous murder victims this time~ Cat shifter Breena, and several other relatives are the suspects this time~ One of Pepper’s aunts has gone missing! Lucas and her parents are out of town~ This series is full of laughter and the aunts will have you in stitches~ The romance between Lucas and Pepper is sweet~ Poor Pepper just wants to learn the craft and she ends up being a PI instead of running the B&B like she came home for. She keeps uncovering more secrets~ What will she finally end up doing?
you have to laugh at the antics of the aunts. how ever round a bout they go, they get the mystery solved. another page turner secrets revealed!
Best in Series
I must say this first… The book description is wrong! At no point is Lucas in danger and Aunt Agnus never goes missing.
SYNOPSIS
A boarder literally drops dead in front of Pepper and her aunts, but of course the death is ruled natural causes. That isn’t all, though. The deceased boarder is a cousin under a glamor, who also happens to be the wife of a previous victim. Now two unbearable relatives are in town for the inheritance, causing as much chaos as possible in their wake, and all the aunts can do is agree with everything to avoid making the situation worse. If only Lucas was home, but he is out of town escorting Pepper’s parents to safety.
It is all up to the Jaspers to figure out the case, which is clearly becoming a thing for them. Except this time Breena may very well be a suspect as her behavior begins to change much more quickly, and right out of the blue.
REVIEW
Best book in the series so far. Nothing like I have read before, by this author or any author. Morgana has really outdone herself here, her creativity bringing out a whole new way for not only the victim to die but a whole new way to kill a victim. Positively unique and unpredictable. Really. From there the suspects pile up, but the final verdict is a complete surprise. Then there is the humor. That funeral scene is priceless. I couldn’t stop laughing.
ISSUES (Just a few. The rest are in Goodreads notes.)
1. Killian Cosgrove is pushed over a cliff by Alec Aldon at the end of book 6. Alec tells Pepper not to look because it isn’t a pleasant sight. At no point is it indicated that Killian actually lives, although that seems unlikely as he falls over a cliff and doesn’t scream up for help. In this book, however, Killian is in jail.
2. Jezabeth kidnaps Breena, but why? After all is said and done, there appears to be no reason for this.
3. At the start of the series, the aunts are portrayed as man haters. They insist they don’t need a man in their lives. In this book, Maude has a boyfriend. It is even indicated the aunts have had strange men in their lives before.
4. Gorgana changed her name to Euphemia Jones. Jezabeth is listed as a Jones, but she didn’t change her name. I am confused by whether the cousins are Jones or not.

Pepper, also known as Valkyrie, is involved in another mystery at her great aunts’ rental cottages. A guest turns up dead not long after her husband has been murdered. The case is complicated when the guest’s daughter and granddaughter turn up.
This is 7th in the series which is easiest to follow if you read the series from start to the current book. The series has strange but likeable characters and a unique setting. Very enjoyable.
