Witch You Well
The Westwick Witches
By: Colleen Cross
Narrated by: Petrea Burchard
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
This is a fun story, but a good mystery. It has witches, a hot sheriff, grumpy witches, a hot sheriff, fun dialogue, a crazy witch trying to burn everything down, and a lot of silliness. It is a fun book but at the same time a good mystery that kept me guessing as to who and how they did it. Did I say a hot sheriff? Just checking.
The narrator was fantastic! Couldn’t have a better voice for this book. Just right for these witches and the chaos that was in this book and she did it perfectly. She even performed the hot sheriff just right. Great book!!!
Cendrine is a witch who chooses to live a normal life. her family on the other hand embraces their gift. Her family is opening a cozy inn where they live in Westwick Corners. They invite a Travel Guru to come to their grand opening hoping it will give them a leg up in the business. Sounds good right? Nope, not so good, just a couple of hours after arriving he is found dead in the gazebo on the property. All clues leads back to Cen’s crazy old Aunt Pearl.
Cen now must prove Aunt Pearl’s innocence to the new hot Sheriff and the townspeople as well.
This was a short book but was packed full of adventure, mystery, and witches. This was a very good cozy mystery and i really enjoyed it. This is book one in the Westwick Witches Cozy Mysteries series by Colleen Cross. I cannot wait for book 2 to see what Cen and her eccentric family will get into next.
The Audiobook is narrated by Petrea Burchard. She did a really good job, at times I wish she had of sped up a bit in her narration but other then that she did keep my interest.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Witchy Little Cozy Mystery Romance!
Excellent narration with a little romance in the mix. This doesn’t quite make it as a romance, but there is enough there, so I’m going to count it!
This is #1 in the Westwick Witches Series, and the only one in audio format.
The witchcraft of this story has a very Bewitched style to it, especially with crazy relatives popping to and throw causing mischief all the time.
Story
Cendrine is a witch who has recently acquired the somewhat defunct local newspaper of her small little town that sounds like it is on the outskirts of the Seattle, Wa area, or at least on that end of Washington state. The town is trying to rebrand itself in an effort to attract tourist. Her family owns the local inn/restaurant/bar and it’s days away from its grand opening. So when the famous travel writer they were counting on to help promote the place ends up dead, things take a detour on the hot mess train!
Cen’s problems get even worse because her infuriating Aunt Pearl keeps setting things on fire and taunting the new sexy sheriff Tyler Gates who is completely oblivious to fact that magic exists. Oh, and did I mention Cen is engaged to the town’s Mayor and due to get married in less than a month.
Cen has to use her amateur sleuthing skills to prove her family’s innocence without letting it slip to the world that they are witches. While doing this she also has to juggle helping her mom keep the grand opening on track, keep her aunt out of trouble, and decide if marrying her high school sweet heart is what she really wants. So, easy, right?
Author
This is my first read-listen by Colleen Cross. It’s a Cozy Mystery, and very true to the sub-genre. No excessive cursing, sex, or violence. There were a lot of nice twists to the story for a very pleasant mystery read.
Narrator(s)
Petrea Burchard did the narration, and this is the only title listed under her name @ Audible. Given how expressive the narration was, I would wonder if this is the author herself with a pen name for audio. The level of detail the narrator has is as if the they wrote it, if not, you could of fooled me. I mean that in the bests of ways!
Overall it was a good read but sometimes I felt like I was missing some pages, or a book. It did not read like book one of a series. There were references to curses and grudges as if they were from a past book or series. I could not find any other titles that this could be a spin off from, or any short works that could have been the precursor works.
Besides that, it was crafty, witchy read.

Cendrine “Cen” West Cen is a journalist descended from a long line of powerful witches who have inhabited the small town of Westwick Corners for generations. Cen craves an ordinary life but her Aunt Pearl is determined for her to keep up her witchcraft. A murder at their family Inn points to her Aunt Pearl. Its going to take some magic and sleuthing to find the real murderer.
So let’s start with what I liked. I liked the narrator. They did a good job with differentiating characters and portraying tone. I liked the concept of this story but unfortunately I was sadly bored by it. Cen was a very flat and boring character. I also wasn’t liking how she doubts her relationship but refuses to discuss it with the groom.
My biggest issue was Aunt Pearl. She is supposed to be this fun criminal witchy aunt but just comes across as really annoying. She has no care for how her actions affect others and is constantly doing things that hurt other people and their property. She is the family member you never want to be around because they make you want to pull your hair out.
Truthfully I was planning on stopping this audiobook after just a few chapters (about an hour), but I stuck it out to see if it got better. Also I was listening to it while working on a sewing project so it just let it keep playing. Since I still wasn’t enjoying it at 50% I called it quits and will be moving on to something else.
I really wanted to like this book but I think the story and characters needed more work.

Too simple
Love these books
Had fun reading this. The aunt character could drive you crazy but I enjoyed reading it. I will be reading more
This was a fairly predictable story, nothing unexpected along the way. It’s a pleasant enough read, though, just not a terrific one.
Audiobook review: Witch You Well involves witches running a bed and breakfast and a guest being murdered on their grounds. One of the proprietors is a leading suspect and is known for her mischievousness, subterfuge, and deceitfulness. I found the story funny and interesting. Ms. Burchard, the narrator, did a good job.
