Aris Calisto, newest student at Aether Academy of Crystal Magic and Witchcraft not only stands out with her quirky outfits and bubblegum pink hair but also draws attention by being what’s considered the lowest of the low in the Akasha society- a Mixta. When mysterious things start happening, including unexpected bindings, things going missing, and being claimed by a not-so-traditional familiar, … familiar, Aris realizes she’s in over her cotton candy-colored head. Enter in the five guys who have been magically roped into Aris’s rodeo:
-Caspian, the playful potions brewer,
-Drayce, the summoner who never seems to get overwhelmed,
-Kye, a broody rune drawer who Aris can’t help but pester,
-Xan, the spell caster with no sense of humor to speak of,
-and Torryn, the history professor who seems to demand every waking hour working on mastering her power.
With a cauldron full of men behind her, can Aris use her i’magic’nation to figure out what’s happening to her capricious coven? Or will she find out that life’s a real witch?

The Not Your Basic Witch is a WhyChoose/Reverse Harem trilogy featuring MMFMMM meaning there is M/M content, and the female main character doesn’t have to choose between her love interests. This trilogy is the first in a series collection consisting of six trilogies titled Legends of Asteria. Each trilogy should be read in order.
This book contains references involving violence, and other themes that some readers may find triggering.

Aris is a great MC, she has a sweetness, but is also has sass and strength. I like how she just rolls with everything that is thrown at her. She has clearly been at minimum ignored by her family, because of her Mixta status, but she is still kind. I love the dialogue between the characters. This story is steamy, and i liked that each of the guys was unique. The story does end with a dramatic tease to the next book, which I hope comes out soon 🙂
I absolutely loved the start of this new series. A witchy story in a college setting that flowed beautifully from two of my favorite authors. I felt that it was easy to get attached to the guys Aris is drawn to. I loved the steam factor and what has to be the cutest familiars. The book has just the right amount of drama and action to keep the plot moving. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
I love this book and the writing duo of A.J.Macey and Jarica James! This book is a fantastic beginning to the series! The storyline is full of action, suspense, quirkiness, and sexiness! I absolutely adore the FMC and her 5 guys! I picked up this book and couldn’t put it down! I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
This book was so fun. I love how snarky and sassy aris is. She is one of my fav female leads. Her bubbly positive personality is awesome. The witch puns were oh so fun. Cas, torryn, Kyle, can, and darcey are haf if you know what I mean. I love the world both aj and jarica created. This book is fun, a fast read and some really good sexy times. The ending was a messed up way to end…I love and hate cliffhangers.
What an absolute joy of a new series!!! Aris is a unique a witch that ever was. Bubble gum pink hair, clumsy as can be but with a HUGE heart and sense of humor. Sadly her well to do, “well bred” society witch parents find her an eternal disappointment as she’s a Mixta … Meaning she can’t cast magic of her own. Her entire life she’s been looked down upon , ridiculed, and blamed constantly for things that she’d not done. So it’s a huge relief when sent away to school. How was she to know her entire world was about to change in an instant? She is instantly drawn to a few certain witches… Oddly feeling a magical pull towards them. Surely that’s all in her mind though…right? Looks like maybe there something here that nobody in the magic community was aware of. Could she be more than a mere Mixta? Suddenly gaining elemental abilities out of the blue? Professors already thought her odd on day one with her ability to move things without a rune, power word or incantation. If they found THAT odd wait until the end of term. Between being bullied by elite mean girl witches, and odd magical outbursts… Strange events, missing items and attacks toward her keep happening. Something out of the norm is definitely going on here. Here is hoping her five sweet guys can help figure this all out. Filled with humor, lots of witchy goings on, political snobbery, bizarre events, and just a lot of fun… This book is a great introduction to the new series!!!! I love the cast of characters so far and the world building. Aris is an absolute JOY that has me cheering her on the moment we’re introduced to her. I can’t wait to see what’s for this pint sized bundle of sprinkles and happiness.
Definitely in top 10 of my favorite books. I really just love everything about the book. I am so freaking excited for the second book! Awesome job!!
Aris is an absolutely fantastic character who you can’t help but love. She’s bright, fun, and strong.. not letting the world get her down. Now starting a new school, it’s a chance for her to make friends and learn that people have different opinions than those she experienced growing up. Love this story and can’t wait for more!
It’s about Aria, a mixta, a witch with no affinity. She goes to a school far away and meets new people. She’s hoping things will turn out better here since mixta are not treated equally but like a lesser witch. She doesn’t like it so she tries to be cheerful and sweet. She loves pink but is also sassy. She catches the attention of 5 guys. This is mmxmmm harem and I freaking loved this book!
Witch, please was everything I thought it would be and so much more! Aris is a strong, witty character that was easy to love. Each one of her guys brought something different to the table. The plot was compelling and I couldn’t put the book down. I hope there is more series by this duo of authors. I can’t wait for the next book!
In this book witches are categorized into 5 classifications – Potions, Divination & Scrying, Elementals, Spell Casters and Summoners. Witches that dont fit into any of those categories are classed as Mixtas. Mixtas are regarded by some witches as a lower class and Aris (the MFC) os one of those. Much to her families dislike. So she is sent to Aether Academy of Crystal and Witchcraft. A school for all witches including mixtas but not everyone wants them there especially her. Sunny. Sweet natured and witty she soon finds a place at the Academy. As well as friends – Caspian, Kye, Torryn, Drayce and Xan who also care about her. A fantastic, funny, witty, sexy book and a damn fine read
