The most powerful witches live more than one lifetime.
I’ve come to realize that now. The natural order of things is for a mother to raise her children. Not the other way around.
My new housemate Kimberly doesn’t know yet what (or who) her newborn daughter is, but I do. I was there when she was born and shared a short soul-gaze with my own mother. Someday, I’ll have to break the news to … Someday, I’ll have to break the news to Kimberly, but not today.
Or this week, it looks like. Not with all the shenanigans going on in Wind’s Crossing.
Who would have thought buying a simple desk at an estate auction would lead to so much trouble for my little shop? The break-ins ticked me off, but I could live with them. I had my own way of handling things like that.
But when the last break-in yielded a dead body? Well, a witch has to draw the line somewhere.
Besides, I’m a Ravenswind Witch and head priestess of the Gemstone Coven. We don’t rest until justice is served. One way or another.
Witch of a Godmother is the first book in the Witch Reborn Series, a Paranormal Witch Cozy Mystery starring none other than Opal Ravenswind, witch extraordinaire. This series is the second series featuring the Gemstone Coven’s witches. If you want to start at the very beginning, check out the Accidental Familiar Series.

Reincarnation is a tricky subject, and Opal Ravenswind, who is a witch, has just recognized the her mother is now a three-month-old baby girl. And that’s just in the first few pages. And then there is this desk? Very enjoyable, and fun.
So Amie and Ruby left the nest and there story is on pause however not to worry the Goddess has plans and the story continues with Opal, the austere aunt who to be honest was scary!
However reading her book, her story Opal is a big softie! She has filled the farmhouse with a new adopted family, her new adopted daughter Nancy, (who’s harrowing backstory is in the Accidental Familiar series) Her older friend Kimberly and her 2 children Including her new born daughter baby Pearl who has an interesting back story (I’ll let Opal tell it she does it so well)
Opal bought a desk at an estate sale for her shop, she decides to use it rather than sell it on. that first night there is a break-in (embarrassing for a witch of Opals stature people will think she is going soft!) good thing she is dating the sheriff, though not publically she fears she would ruin his image. However by the third break in there is a body. Who wants the desk so badly they will kill for it?
This is a good story, my heart broke a little for Opal I always thought she was such a confident Witch but really she worries about what people think of her, nor is she the emotionless robot that Amie kinda made her out to be, she cares, maybe to much. Nor will she see an injustice done.
I look forward to seeing what exactly the Goddess wants from Th Gemstone Coven, is it always a good thing to be favoured by Goddesses?
A fun read, I hope we will see more of Amie and Ruby in future books to.

It was so great reading about Opal from her perspective. We finally get to see a softer side to her. I loved learning more about her relationships with Kimberly, Mason, Nancy, Baby Pearl and Orville, especially Orville! This was a cozy mystery that went to a different direction then others. Was the first death a murder? Then there was the second death, and the older death…so many mysteries to figure out! I really loved this book!

Slightly Rocky Start, But Liked It in the End
While I don’t appreciate information dumps in general, at least the author put it in a separate introduction. That’s almost acceptable. 😉 I don’t think I have read the series that this is an offshoot of (though I might have), or at least I don’t remember Opal. She’s a great character, though it took me a while to warm up to her. As someone who loves her family’s antiques, including a cool old desk, I loved that the mystery revolves around what was happening to an antique desk that Opal got at an estate sale for her shop but ultimately decided to keep for herself. Someone breaks into her store and damages one of the drawers in it, obviously looking for something. Opal’s boyfriend is the local sheriff, though they are keeping it hidden because Opal believes it would hinder his next election if it got out that his lover is a witch. I thought they were cute and fun with their weekly non dates! I found this to be a fun, witchy paranormal cozy mystery.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Opal, head of her coven, is known to be a witch. She also owns an antique shop. One day she decides to keep one desk she had bought at an estate sale and puts it in the back of her show room. The next day the desk is damaged around a drawer, which leads her to find a journal and a final testament of the former owner. Passing the Last Will to the sheriff, the both of them begin to uncover a lot more than they had been looking for.
A nice cozy mystery with a touch of magic, in a world where magic is openly practiced.
This book is the beginning of a new series, but it is a spin-off to the Accidental Familiar series, featuring the Gemstone Coven. We encounter the same families and can follow the families formed in the Accidental Familiar series.

Focused karma spells that result in hemorrhoids seem fair to me – for breaking in and ill intent.
Opal Ravenswind is the leader of the Gemstone Coven. She seems pleased to have Kimberly and her children in her emptier farmhouse and life. Still, Ruby is missed for the witchly support she provided at the shop for Opal. And Baby Pearl just might be full of surprises someday
A series of lethal mysteries leads Opal and her friends and family down a dangerous path.
In the end, new and changing understandings of family are the keys to survival and happiness
Drama filled magical adventures and mysteries

Great story!
I love stories like this that have “meat on their bones”. A well-rounded story with a strong storyline is harder and harder to find these days. This is fast-paced and well written. I was pulled in from the first sentence and the story took off like a wildfire! I can’t wait to read more in this series!
Loved Opal. Opal is infamous in the area. She is the High Priestess of the Gemstone Coven and favored by the Goddess. She is also kind and caring to those she loves and will put a spell on evil wrong doers. Not spells to kill but to make the culprit mighty uncomfortable. When she buys an old desk at a local estate sale her troubles start. Someone breaks into her shop and damages one of the drawers. Then they break in and try to steal a drawer, and later succeed. But she has already found what they were looking for and turned it over to her boyfriend, Sherriff Orvill. And now she is on the hunt for a thief, a murderer, and an heir to riches. Is it three different people, or one person? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
The story line was good, the character work was terrific and the book had a fairly smooth flow to it. This was a great start to a series and kept me entertained from beginning to end.

Opal is trying to keep her relationship a secret because she doesn’t want others to use it against his re-election. She is really enjoying having Nancy, Kimberly and her kids there. The baby holds a special place for her, she will have to tell Kimberly the truth some time soon. She just received a desk, she decides to keep it for herself. Kimberly tells her that the desk is damaged. She calls the sheriff and they change the locks. She also enlists other to help with magic as well. It goes off again, this time the drawer is missing. Opal had enough and decided to look at all the drawers. She finds the previous owners paperwork and journal. She calls the sheriff again, this time they take it to her sister’s husband. While they are there, Opal charm goes off that someone broke in again. This time what they find is not what they were expecting, the thief is dead at his car.
This causes Opal and the Sheriff to start to dig into death of thief, the owner of the will and others. This will leading them to solving alot more than what they thought.
This book grabbed me from the fist page. I really enjoyed reading this book about Opal, the sheriff and others. It was well-written, fast paced, so many layers that it keeps you until the final page. I honestly can’t wait for the next. I recommend reading this book
