I don’t often do Audiobooks, this being my second and streaming at that, but it was an engaging tale and well worth the time.
2.5 stars
I liked it but didn’t love it. The idea of a magical town with so many different types of creatures with magic is intriguing but it wasn’t well formed. Nothing in this town seemed magical at all. Parts of this feel very YA (which I have no problem with reading YA books at all) but then it feels like it’s trying to be a “regular/adult” (not erotic!) paranormal book. There’s a lot of guessing and “trust me I know I’m right” as far as the mystery. It seemed to take forever to find out Esme’s big secret that really isn’t a secret because of all the things she alluded to. And all her self-doubt got to be annoying and seemed overly childish. The characters are a bit flat and one dimensional, even by the end of the book they aren’t really fleshed out. It’s a little frustrating.
I’m on the fence about whether to continue this series even though I already have the 2nd book.
Esme husband is a cheat! After leaving him for a new start, she finds a dead body and becomes a suspect. Can she solve the crime before she ends up arrested?
This is a really cute book and a great start to the series. Looking forward to the next one!

What better place to hide than the family castle. Esme has a problem, and after finding her new husband in bed with her best friend, she flees to her hometown of Brimstone Bay. Lucky for her a relative she barely knew left her a castle when she passed away. Not long after arriving she finds a dead body in the garden and must clear her name before she is convicted of something she didn’t do. Dealing with her three cousins, her dead Aunt, a physic cat and solving a murder is hard work when you can’t be in the sunlight. Great paranormal read, can’t wait for the next.
This has some promise, it did feel at the start as if i had jumped into the book and missed a chapter or 2 as there is little to no explanation to Esme’s “condition” and there was no explanation to the werewolf at the start on the train, however if you can power through that I think this has the makings of a good series. It was a good who dunnit and it did keep me guessing

Esme will also will have to find time to look for her cure before it is exposed to everyone. She keeps having infuriating meeting with the agent and her crush is back in her life. Esme is walking a line with everything, will she find out who killed the young women, find the answers she is looking for, get her life together.
This was such an enjoyable and interesting start to this series. You have a little bit for everyone, murder mystery, paranormal and possible romances. The author keep the pace of the story at a great pace and you don’t find out who did it until the end of the book. You will get lost in this world the author created and enjoy the ride. I am excited to read more of this series and author
