Witches. Monsters. Magick. One gamer nerd trying to figure it all out… kind of crap, right?
But here’s the problem.
This time it worked.
If they have any hope of surviving the night, he’ll have to call up old knowledge and power he didn’t believe to be real, challenging things that crawled out of the pit.
Either way, it’s a lovely night for a witching.

Richard is a witch hunter. That’s all you need to know going into this. His story his hilarious, and he is surrounded by a cast of excellent characters. This story begins with Richard being questioned by a detective who wanted to know about the death of a reporter. It gets crazy as he recalls his experience.
This was a fun, creepy read! Highly recommended.
Cute — reminds you of Ash is Evil Dead
Richards first problem was that he didn’t believe in witches. His second began when he called one up.
This book was a really fun read. It’s at turns scsry, creepy, and laugh out loud funny. If you like urban fantasy with a twist then this is the Book for you. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
JZ Foster can really tell a story!..Witch Hunter is one of those books that within a page, you’ve left your world and jumped into his…I loved it!…can’t wait for Witch Hunter 2
Many thanks to author J.Z. Foster for sending me a free copy of Witch Hunter!
I absolutely loved this book! This was one of the most fun books I’ve read in awhile.
So, we have Richard Fitcher the witch hunter, a good guy although a bit awkward, who doesn’t really believe in himself. Richard, along with Beth, a reporter, and Ted the camera man have a wild night hunting a witch. Along the way, they meet many other “odd” characters. They run into quite a bit of trouble.
That’s about all I can say without handing out spoilers.
We all know of a Richard Fitcher. Slightly geeky and nerdy. Socially awkward, he just wants to be included. He thinks his weekend role-playing group of witch hunters is make believe. Uh-oh. He’s just found out its real. Life has a way of sneaking up on you and changing everything you thought was real.
Richard’s transformation during his trip into the woods is fun to observe. The twists and turns keep coming. Both hilarious and spooky, I could not put this book down! Witch Hunter: Into the Outside grabs you and won’t let you go. I made the mistake of trying to read this at night and I kept turning the light back on to go back to the story. Okay, I binge read it. Guilty! This is an amazing first novel by J.Z. Foster. Give it a try! You won’t be disappointed!
Loved this book. It pulls you in slowly at first and builds steam as it goes making it so you can’t stop. You have to keep turning the pages to see what is going to happen next!
Great read!! Page turner! Scary!!
Got this as an ARC for an honest review.
Richard is an expert in Dungeons & Dragons and thinks that him and his friends have created their own guild as Witch Hunters.
However, when he is sent by his Dungeon Master to track down signs of a witch, Richard thinks it’s all part of the games they play but when he gets to the town, he comes to the very uncomfortable conclusion…it’s all real. Will the actual witch easily destroy him or will Richard actually have luck on his side?
Great horror that also makes you laugh at the crazy situations Richard finds himself in…oh and I’ve got a favorite character now…the Wight we’ll call Stretch…you wanna know what I’m talking about, then read this book!!
This was one heck of a story, I’m really glad that I dug into it! It pulled you in right from the start, was atmospheric, and had a lighter tone despite its heavy subject matter. I do have to say my favorite part of the entire story is the evolution of Richard from the stereotypical chubby, shy nerd into an individual capable of standing up for himself and doing what’s right. All in all, well done, and an excellent start! This you for the opportunity to review this work!
Made my blodd chill
Richard Fitcher is not your usual hero/lead man. He has never the popular guy, is a few pounds overweight, and is self-deprecating. He says he is a witch hunter and is visiting a small town with a TV reporter and a cameraman for an interview and a witch hunt, but he doesn’t really believe in what he is doing. He just thinks he is putting on a show until things start to feel real.
It took me a long time before I started to appreciate Richard, although he grew on me as I got farther into the story. The interactions with his lawyer were a turn-off, I think that was my least favorite part of the book. Overall, it was an interesting story and I have to admit it is not the type of book I normally read, but I still had fun. One thing about Richard is he has a quirky personality that goes from annoying to endearing.
When stumbling upon this author I was hesitant about jumping right in above all the other authors I’m so use to, but I am sure glad I did. J.Z. Fosters ability to grasp the reader and keep their attention is amazing. Throughout the amusing novel I found myself questions how this could be his first novel as well as catching my self chuckling and repeating “damn” all the way till the very end. If you are looking for that twisting turn of events with humor THIS is the very book to read. Great job J.Z.
Do you like funny characters who also happen to participate in the banishment of the dark arts?? Then step right up, this book is for you! Jokes aside, this book is super entertaining and hard to put down once you start. You have humor mixed in with quite a bit of action from the very beginning. It’s funny, but also creepy and chilling and I don’t know why you’re still reading this review instead of reading this book!
Witch Hunter: Into the Outside is an urban horror fiction novel by J.Z. Foster. At least, I went into the read with that limited impression. But who doesn’t enjoy some good urban horror fiction? I know I enjoy it. However, Witch Hunter is more than that. With Foster’s complex and vivid writing style, Witch Hunter also falls into the genre of supernatural horror thriller.
Witch Hunter starts strong and stays strong. The story grabbed me immediately and by the end of the first chapter, I knew this was not just an urban horror fiction tale. The plot is strong and the building suspense kept me hooked. As the story progresses, you wonder what is real and what is not even as the characters do. Nothing is what it seems, not to the reader, not to the characters. Horror, mystery, suspense, and three levels of humor, this story has it all.
It also has very relatable and realistic characters. From beginning to end we have characters good and evil and everything in between. Without giving anything away, I must say one simply must love Wight. Even the more minor characters are enjoyable and relevant.
Everything in the story is relevant. Witch Hunter is well paced and well written, thoroughly engaging, and completely enjoyable.
Thank you J.Z. Foster for sending me a copy of your book in exchange for an honest review.
Richard Fitcher is a Witch Hunter who doesn’t believe in witches. He has learned the lore as a way of entertaining himself and filling his time.
One evening he takes a local reporter and her camera man on a ‘witch hunt’. He performs the ritual for locating a witch and is very surprised when it actually works. All too soon they are dropped right in it: a haunted house, possessed camera man and creatures I’ve never even heard of before.
We follow Richard as he struggles to find his way as they battle assorted supernatural entities, trying to track down one very dangerous witch.
I enjoyed Witch Hunter very much. It’s horror mixed with dark humor. My favorite character is the wight (“hunny Budda”). The story telling switches back and forth between Richard’s current situation and the past action and works very well. It was fast paced with never a dull moment.
Fantastic Read!
I have previously read The Wicked Ones by JZ so was excited to check this one out! This is a book that quickly and easily sucks you in, all the while keeping those remnants of subconscious tingling, nagging you at, that something isn’t right and BAM! The book is hard to put down, enthralling, with a perfect blend of horror, fear and humour! The characters are great, easy to like/easy to hate and the blend between real time narrative and back story is accomplished amazingly!
I highly, highly recommend you pick this up, and after the amazing reads of The Wicked Ones and now Witch Hunter, I snagged his third book Mind Wreck before I finished reading this! I have head rumblings a part 2 is on the way, and if there is, that would make it all the better! Cheers JZ!
I absolutely loved this book it was very entertaining and I couldn’t put it down. I love books that catch you from the beginning and keep you glued on till the end. Highly recommend
I got this book on a whim. New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster is one of my “auto-buy” favorites, and she mentioned on Facebook that her son had a book coming out. I really like her use of the language and I figured her son would handle the language similarly well. I was right, his writing is very good.
But the story!
Richard is a geek who has stumbled into a group of witch hunters. He does not believe in witches but it is a fun group to sit around with and spin tales. Just as I can sit in a group of role players and not really believe I am a half-elf assassin, he can play the witch hunter game with his buds and pretend he is serious.
He makes arrangements to take a reporter and cameraman on a “witch hunting” trip. He brings along props to pretend he has found a witch. Unfortunately for Richard, he is too good a student. He finds a witch and draws its attention.
He does not believe in witches. He did not think his ritual would work.
He does not believe in witches. He has not taken basic precautions to protect himself.
He does not believe in witches. This is madness!
But the reporter seems to be at real risk and he feels he must protect her.
Reading this was one of the best “whims” I have had in a long time. I hope you enjoy it too!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book, although I did buy a copy when it came out. I have already pre-ordered the sequel.
