Precocious 12-year-old Louisa Mae Cardinal lives in the hectic New York City of 1940 with her family. Then tragedy strikes — and Lou and her younger brother, Oz, must go with their invalid mother to live on their great-grandmother’s farm in the Virginia mountains. Suddenly Lou finds herself coming of age in a new landscape, making her first true friend, and experiencing adventures tragic, comic, … comic, and audacious. But the forces of greed and justice are about to clash over her new home… and as their struggle is played out in a crowded Virginia courtroom, it will determine the future of two children, an entire town, and the mountains they love.

I’ve read Wish You Well twice now and it is still one of my favorite books. I love the characters and setting so much. The story stays with you. It is one of those historical novels that envelope you heart and soul. I can’t recommend it enough!
One of the best books I have ever read. Set in the hills of Virginia during the 40’s. Packs many plots in one book. But, they all blend beautifully, with an honest look at the trials honest working people faced in mountain life.Based loosely on David’s childhood. Heart wrenching, wise and hopefull. The movie is true to the book.
This is one of my favorite books. Though some elements are so realistic, there are moments of surprise. I felt I had known the characters all of my life. This was very different from other Baldacci books and well worth my reading time.
It is suitable read for all ages and very interesting. I love reading it and will recommend to friends and family. It is family oriented and would really recommend to see it in the movies. I could compare it to the movie titled”All Mine to Give. Baldacchi is a great storyteller.
Every author seems to have that one truly great book they were meant to write. For David Baldacci, “Wish You Well” is his one great book. While I enjoy his page turner mysteries, this book is a different kind of book entirely, and clearly a step above a lot of other books. Like “A Painted House” by John Grisham, “Wish You Well” defines Baldacci …
Not a thriller; not even intended as a thriller. Instead, Baldacci provides a fine story with fine writing as he explores believable characters dealing with powerful issues of life.
Very different Baldacci novel. This could be a Hallmark special. Kind of predictable and schmaltzy, but sweet and I liked it anyway. Two children lose their father in a car accident and their mother is in a comatose state, so they (and mother) are sent off to live with their great grandmother on a mountain in Virginia. No electricity or plumbing, …
One of my favorite books. A look back in time with great characters!
Unexpectedly amazing! I’m a big-time fan of David Baldacci & this is the first book of his that I’ve read that seems to be truly written from his heart! The author paints a very vivid picture of Coal mining & it’s affect on both communities, Hill-folk & Town-folk; I felt like I was living the story!! Thank you Mr Baldacci for sending me to this …
One of his best books. If can only read one Baldacci book. Make this the one!
I am a fan and this book was different from his usual book.
Heartwarming, down-home good sense, hard work and hard times, and big love and respect for family and friends. Takes you back to a time just a little bit past. Loved this book so much, I bought it as a Christmas gift. DO read it, now!
Read for book club. I liked it well enough, but it kept reminding me of “To Kill a Mockingbird”.
I have read this book twice I liked it so well. I grew up close to where the story takes place. I think it is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I have recommended this book to my family and friends and so far all have enjoyed
Really like all of his books
I have recommended this book to all of my family and friends. This book really touched my heart. I laughed and cried a lot. Really great characters. In my opinion, this book is the best that David ever published. I’ve read thousands of books, and this one is definitely in my all time Top 10. I highly recommend this book..

Fabulous story! Would make a super movie!!!
I read this years ago but I remember how wonderful and touching it was. Very different from Baldacci ‘s usual books but well worth reading
I wish I could give this book to everyone I meet. My favorite.
So many readers have reviewed this book; what can I add? I laughed, cried, grew anxious, and felt like standing on tip-toes to peek ahead. The characters exhibited such tenderness, tenacity, and courage in the face of overwhelming circumstances. I usually subscribe to “so many books, so little time” as I rush through each volume. But for right …
