I did really enjoyed the characters and the romantic atmosphere. Love the thrilling story telling.
It was very entertaining
Everyone should wish upon a star like Gloria. I like that Pringle helped her face her fears.
Love Erica’s writing!! Always an excellent read!!
All I have to see is Erica Ridley’s name to know a book will be a good read!
Sweet story.
Christopher Pringle is in Cressmouth, the Christmas town, to find a wife who will share his love of the stars and adventure. He has never stayed in one place very long and he doesn’t plan on staying in Cressmouth very long either. When he’s introduced to a matchmaker, Gloria Goodwin, he hopes that she’ll find him a suitable wife within a month. On the surface Chris and Gloria have nothing in common, but the more time they spend together, the more they realize the objections they have about each other is exactly what they’re looking for in a spouse. The witty banter between these two is delightful.
This is another cute story in the series. I received a copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review and was not obligated to leave a review.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
In searching for older books by Erica Ridley I came across Wish Upon A Duke. Published in November of 2018, it’s book 3 of the 12 Dukes Of Christmas series. With only a passing nod to previous characters, Wish Upon A Duke stands by itself.
Christopher Pringle (don’t you love the name?), is an dedicated adventurer. He likes rules, facts and things that are dependable, will stay the same. He’s running from a bad childhood, though he thinks that’s long over with. He’s lonely and wants someone to be with him, a love match. His idea of a mate is himself in a skirt.
Gloria Godwin has been on her own for the past 6 years and has become set in her ways. Life has delt her a harsh hand and it’s become twisted in her mind that if she stays still, changes nothing, that all will be fine. Both characters have been warped, in different ways, into thinking that a straight line and path will protect them. Christopher begins a kind of immersion therapy, working slowly to address Gloria’s fears. In the process he comes to face his own. They grow and change together, it’s sweet to see two such flawed people become whole again and find love.

After finishing book 2 in the 12 Dukes of Christmas series, I debated whether I wanted to start right away on book 3. How could I resist reading Chris Pringles`s story, after all he is St. Nick`s brother. What a lark, between the “tongue in cheek” names to the cheeky characters, laughs abound. It is such a joy to return to Cressmouth aka Christmas. Chris is looking for his perfect match, however he finds opposites really do attract. He and Gloria Godwin certainly have enough in common including mutual attraction. The story is in how they finally accept their differences in order to keep the love they found. This series is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I love the setting, the likeable characters, the many quirky ones and especially the way Erica Ridley makes each story unique.
Christopher has lived his life mostly in the shadow of his devilishly handsome and rakish brother. Chris wants to settle down with a wife who is his perfect match so he does not repeat the mistakes he saw his parents make. Now that his brother is engaged, Chris finds himself suddenly surrounded by single ladies. Since Chris’ policy is to never spend more than a month in one place, at the suggestion of his brother’s fiancee, he enlists the help of a matchmaker to speed along the process of finding a wife. Gloria, the matchmaker, is Chris’ perfect opposite in every way and refuses to ever leave her home, while Chris finds happiness in travel and adventure. Despite their differences, Chris finds himself inexplicably drawn to one another, but will their attraction be enough to make up for their differences?
I found this quick Christmasy novella to be very enjoyable, although Gloria’s fears were rather feebly founded. As with the previous installments in this series, you’ll need to suspend your disbelief a bit and embrace the cheesiness to really enjoy them, but this one comes with references to Santa’s reindeer and a TLC song if you can get behind it.
I received a complimentary ARC via NetGalley. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wish Upon a Duke is the third book in the 12 Dukes of Christmas series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Christopher has always had the drive to travel and see the world, but lately what’s missing is a wife to share his adventures with. Gloria is his matchmaker, but the more time he spends with her, he’s realizing that they could be perfect together, except they may be extreme opposites where it truly matters. Can Christopher convince Gloria that they’re perfect matches if only she could take a chance, or will they both walk away from true love?
This book was just truly fun and lovely, and all about figuring out what’s most important in life and in love. Christopher and Gloria are absolutely perfect for each other, as they have similar interests and compliment each other’s weaknesses. With each fear, the other is there to fight beside them, and I loved that both of them needed to figure out where love fell in their lives. One of my favorite things about this book was the conversations and banter back and forth between Gloria and Christopher! I often found myself smiling or laughing at their serious silliness! I loved Christopher’s black and white views on rules, and I loved Gloria’s whimsical imagination! They seemed like such a real couple, fighting over silly things, bonding together over the difficult things, and this is why I’m loving this series. While it’s fun and makes me laugh, the feelings are real and realistic! This was an amazing addition to the series and I’m so excited for the next one!
This is romantic, amusing and interesting. Christopher is determined, amusing and adventurous. Gloria is bold, generous and stubborn. Christopher traveled to Christmas to find a wife, but was not having any luck, so a friend recommended he have Gloria matchmake for him. Gloria really likes him, but knows that he’s going to sail away soon, so she has him meet with women to find him someone who is a perfect match. But they start spending more time together, eventually getting along well. But the fact remains that he’s getting on a ship, and she’s not leaving Christmas. I love this series, all the books are amusing, romantic and entertaining.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
I love Regency Romance tales, especially when there is a handsome duke involved. I also love holiday tales. No surprise then that Erica Ridley’s Wish Upon a Duke (12 Dukes of Christmas Book 3) is pure ambrosia for me (the Greek mythological kind, not the actual modern food that I don’t particularly adore …). This author is someone with true mastery of this particular genre and she’s put together a totally fun romp of a story that is perfect for the holiday season. Gloria and Christopher (Chris) were meant for each other despite initial hesitations and this perfectly plotted (and, of course, with this author) well written tale puts them together in just the right way to learn that. Add in a great supporting cast (special mention to Nick and Penelope, and to Gloria’s maid Madge) and the result is a total winner. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
Wish Upon a Duke Erica Ridley is book Three in the 12 Dukes of Christmas series. This is the story of Gloria Godwin and Christopher Pringle. I have read the previous books, both Gloria and Christopher do appear in the previous books , but I feel this can be a standalone book if you wish to do so.
This was a story of opposites attracted to each other. Where Christopher was by the book and somewhat stuffy, Gloria was more easy going. Words flew between the two along with their sparks of attractions. Another great read by Ms. Ridley.
This is the 3rd book in the series 12 Dukes of Christmas and they are truly a joy to read. What better place to read about than a town called Christmas where love and joy blossom all year round. The characters in this book could not be more different in one way but in other ways so much the same. They are both scared of living life to the fullest until they find one another and they discover that together they can find where they belong. As usual Ms Ridley has written with warmth, humour and love. For a holiday read anytime of the year you can’t go wrong with these books. Each book flows from the one before but can all be read as standalone. I received this book as an ARC.

Sweetly thrilling, heartwarming and fun historical holiday romance filled with lots of witty banter, exciting twists and disarming passion….. this is a very fun and entertaining read that had me hooked from the first chapter… Loving this engaging and heart pounding sexy group of Dukes….. awesomeness.
Another charming story in this series
Set in a quirky little town where it’s always snowy and white, a cast of eccentric characters entertain us with their sweet, silly, and stubborn ways. In this story, Gloria and Chris fall for each other, despite getting off on the wrong foot. Much compromise is in order for a happily ever after, and true love does, of course, find its way. I highly recommend this story.
I’m glad Gloria got her HEA! She was the imperfect partner for the perfect hero! Christopher is a “by the book” hero who obey’s all the rules. Gloria is one to let her imagination run wild in all things! Together, they compliment each other. Loved the epilogue and see how far they’ve come! Thank you for the Advanced Readers Copy! Awesome read!
Christopher Cringle is about to set out on the adventure of a lifetime and it’s one he would love to share with his bride. As a favour to a friend Gloria Godwin endeavours to help Christopher find his ideal woman. But although she finds several candidates that match up to his particular list of requirements Christopher finds himself drawn more and more to Gloria who pretty much drives him to distraction with her complete disregard of rules and her re-naming of the constellations. Is it a case of opposites really do attract but can it last?
The further into the 12 Dukes of Christmas series I get the more I love it. This book is a short, heartwarming addition to the series just perfect for this time of the year. The hero is a product of his upbringing but gradually Gloria makes him relax more and not take everything so seriously. At the same time Christopher encourages Gloria to break free of her comfort zone and to try new things. I loved that neither of them had to give up everything for the other. They learnt the art of compromising. And catching up with some familiar characters in this book was an added bonus. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
