Excerpt
The impact of the sucker punch sent Louvette to the ground hard. Pain flared across her cheek as it split. The effects of her adrenaline paused as her mother’s words of warning replayed in her mind: Make this school last until graduation. She knew this would break her mother’s heart.
A shout that did not come from her mother took her back to present reality. She hadn’t started this fight, but she knew she wasn’t going to let her butt get stomped, either.
She jumped up. Her fist balled as a blonde pixie of a girl came at her. Louvette dodged her this time and swung her fist straight into the girl’s nose. A solid crunch sounded as her attack landed. Her momentary satisfaction was thrown off along with her balance as the girl fell to the ground.
A large arm separated them as the coach finally arrived to do his job. They continued to kick at each other, looking like barrel monkeys hanging off a barrel.
“Break it up! Lynskey and Mallory report to the principal’s office immediately,” snapped Coach No Clue. No clue was his name because Louvette hadn’t been in his class long enough to learn it.
Dragged down the hallway toward the principal’s office, Louvette was faced with the Queen B, otherwise known as Tiffany Mallory. She began to immediately beg, spawning an eye roll from Louvette. She was a whiny beggar. Just one of many B words that could describe her to a T, but it was the nicest one that Louvette could think of. Her pleading stopped as they arrived at the door of the principal’s office. They locked eyes for a second, hatred flaring toward each other.
“I’m first. I’m on my third offense and I’m not waiting all day for you to get a slap on the wrist,” Louvette said to Tiffany as she darted past her into the office. The only thing that stopped her from slamming the door in B’s face was the creature waiting on the other side of the door.

I enjoyed this book. It is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more from them. This is a suspenseful, action, mystery and even some drama story that kept me turning pages. It is a well developed story that is engaging and made me feel as if I was right there in the story. I had no issues connecting with the characters. They made the story engaging and fast paced. Louvette and her family have been continuously moving because of her behavior. When a lawyer shows up on their doorstep and offers them an opportunity that they can’t pass up, will they take it? This is an easy to read story and I highly recommend it.
I LOVED IT!!!
Louvette Lynskey is a troubled girl, always getting into fights in her school where she just can’t get along with anyone. And this was it, her last strike and now her mother has to move them again. Until someone in a suit comes to tell Louvette that her grandfather has died and she is the sole heir and to make a move to Montana.
Up until this moment she never knew who her father was, let alone his name. Now she is a Blackwood in a new place, a new school and it was just what she needed after everything. But there are secrets that lurk in the dark, some that she never even knew before. She is going to be surprised by what she finds out and from the boy who looks at her like the enemy but could end up being more.
This book was amazing. I loved the mystery, the first time crush, and learning and growing into oneself. It’s such a great and I can’t wait to read the next book because I was sucked into this world and there is so much awaiting us.
4.5 stars
This was a good start to a new Werewolf series. The characters are likable and the flow of the story was easy to read and understand. Suspense, action, drama, mystery and paranormal factors are what keep you invested from start to finish. My only negative was there are many grammar errors, but that doesn’t take away from the story. I’m anxious for the next book in the series.
Louvette and her mother keep moving because Louvette just can’t stay out of trouble. Just as they are getting ready to move a lawyer for her grandfathers estate shows up with a solution, a home and a new school only Louvette has to change her last name to Blackwood.
Well the school is pretty prestigious but Louvette and her mom make the best of it but the first day a guy scratched her arm up pretty good but he explained why later. This book quickly held my interest only downfall is I have to wait for the next.
This is a paranormal fantasy about a teenager called Louvette who keeps moving schools and doesn’t know who her father is until a lawyer executes her grandfather’s will and secrets come out. There’s definitely a bit of every genre in this story, and the plot overall is interesting and suspenseful although it has moments of predictability. The writing itself didn’t exactly pull me in but the characters and their relationships with each other were interesting.
Winter’s Wolf. By Lou Grimes. I absolutely love shifter stories and this one is up there with my favourites. Louvette can’t keep herself out of trouble, she’s been kicked out of multiple schools and this last one is no exception. Lou and her mother are planning on moving when a lawyer shows up with some very unexpected news. A brilliant read I loved Louvettes Character shes very likeable and someone you wish to be friends with. A great first book from a new series. Really looking forward to following this one through to the end.
Winter’s Wolf is the first book in The Cursed series.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got this book, but it turned out to be pretty good. The story concept is interesting and I enjoyed the characters. The author does a good job of building suspense so it keeps you reading. There are a few places where the story breaks down a bit, but I think this series has promise.
One of the things that caught me in this book are the names of the characters. I don’t know why it stood out, but the names really fit this book well.
Overall, a good read!
I couldn’t wait to dive into this read, Lou Grimes is a new author and I couldn’t wait to see what this paranormal read was about, and boy I wasn’t disappointed. This book had me hooked instantly and I couldn’t wait to go deeper into the read. This book had action, suspense, mystery and a lot of drama, I couldn’t read the book fast enough I was eager to find out more, and see where the story will go.
I thoroughly enjoyed following our characters story in this read and finding out where their journey will take them. I can’t wait to read more from this author and see what else comes to this series!
I give Winter’s Wolf (The Cursed Book 1) by Lou Grimes, 5 stars.
I really enjoyed this book. This is a YA supernatural book where the main character discovers who they really are. While there are many books that fall into this category, the author does a great job of making this one stand out. Louvette is such a good character and we are along for the ride as she finds out more about herself. Most teenagers feel like she does at this age and I could easily remember those times while I read. The cast of secondary characters is also really great. Her mother did the best she could, but you can see the love there. Her friends are also enjoyable and I hope to see more of them too. Then there is the story itself. It’s not just a girl finding her way in this newly discovered world. There are more sinister things afoot, making the story all the more endearing.
If you are a fan of YA Paranormal books, I recommend this story to you. I cannot wait to read the next book.
Winter’s Wolf (The Cursed Series Book 1) by Lou Grimes
4 Stars
Louvette has lived almost all over the southern US states. It seems her and her mother were always running. It didn’t help that she was always kicked out of school for fighting. After her recent expulsion, her mother was at her wits end. A knock on their door would change the course of her life. Louvette had never met her father yet she inherited everything when her grandfather passed away. Her mother wasn’t happy but without any other options, signed the papers. Louvette thought of it as a new opportunity to start somewhere new. The little town in Montana was quaint but had its secrets. Louvette quickly realized that she was different and that danger lurked around every corner.
This was an amazing debut novel and a great start to what I believe will be a fantastic series. Between these pages you will find action, danger and romance. The story will keep you glued from beginning to end. The characters are likeable and relatable. I can’t wait to read part two.

Winter’s Wolf (The Cursed Book #1) by Lou Grimes
I didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. I was so disappointed when the book ended. I wish I had the next book lined up and ready to read. Louvette and her mother were great characters. I also liked Cara and Arsen. The story was well written and I became immersed in Louvette learning more about herself and her family. The description of being Lupine and Louvette’s transformation and experiences was so real. I can’t wait for book 2!
I really enjoyed this novel by Lou Grimes. It was for me a fresh take on a werewolf story and I really could not put it down. The story of Louvette’s journey of discovering herself and the truth about her family is full of adventure and intrigue. There are many twists and turns which kept the story interesting. This book kept my attention and ended with a bit of a cliffhanger making me eager for the second book. Lou Grimes is a new author and one I think has a great future in writing.
