First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review. Also, this is a new author to me, and it won’t be my last.
Unfortunately for me, I never read book 1, Truthsight, but I will. I could still read this alone, and wow, I truly enjoyed this story. Amy is a strong, stubborn woman who happens to be a healer. She’s in love with a man/leshy, Roman, who she can’t have. This story has so much going on and you will be shocked when you find out who is behind all that is happening to her. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.
Winter’s Mage
I had won this book from the LibraryThing’s Early Reviewer program. Thank you to the author and Owl City Publishing for this ARC. This is my honest opinion.
Winter’s Mage is the second book in the Outcast Mage series. As a disclaimer, I did not read the first book, which I probably should have. I wasn’t lost in the second book, but I would have enjoyed more background to the story.
Have you ever wanted a super power? I have always wanted mine to be able to talk to animals. Just like Dr. Doolittle. But after reading this story, I want to have Truthsight just like the MC, Amy. It would make my job infinitely easier, and I would have more time for reading books! 🙂 Amy is a Mage and is able to use her Truthsight (it’s like a magic energy source) to medically help people and creatures in need without them being able to tell her what’s wrong! How cool is that!
Her and her friend, Jason, run a walk-in medical clinic for supernatural creatures in the wilds of North Dakota. Whatever happened in the first book has thrown the magical world into chaos. Amy has to figure out how to deal with her adoptive mother, some jealous Mages, Jason’s new powers, and a love that went astray in the first book. Plus, she still has to care for magical creatures that need her. Amy has to figure out who she can trust before it’s too late to save herself!
The author wove an intricate plot line that as many twists and turns as the Missouri River. I never knew what was going to be coming next. It definitely kept me on my toes.
The author also built a wonderful magic world that borders the mundane existance of humans. It has noble centaurs, dwarves, nymphs, and an assortment of unusual creatures. The lore that is the basis of this magical world is complex and unique. Even Amy has not figured it all out yet. There is definitely room for the story to grow in the next book.
Tank and I give this a 4 paw rating as the story was exciting and held our interest. We connected with Amy on many levels, and we enjoyed the wonderful world building. We plan on reading the first book of the series and can’t wait for the next one!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review from City Owl Press.
This is the second book in the series, and although, I never read the first, the story was easy to follow despite missing the beginning.
The story has many supernatural beings, where the main protagonist, Amy, is an mage with healing powers. She was cast out of her community, and her foster mom, Meri, has just been freed from prison. The mages are not happy and were after Amy. Amy and Meri are able to connect with one another through a mirror and a shell. Now that Meri is free, Amy is told she doesn’t have to worry about being tracked.
Amy’s healing powers brings her all kinds of patients to her clinic. One evening, she encounters a Hellhound that has been injured. The creature is feared because looking at it will cause one to be cursed and eventually die. To late, Amy looks at the Hellhound and realizes her mistake. Despite this, she insists on caring for the beast.
Amy realizes that her time is limited and sets out to try to see if she can find a cure for the curse. She seeks out a knowledgeable Gnome, Baxin, who tells her that she roughly has three weeks to live. Amy’s friend, Jason, and Amy’s significant other, Rowan, come up with a plan to try to save her, but it’s dangerous and they aren’t sure if it’ll work. Jason brings back another, who he couldn’t leave behind, but Amy may not be able to save this one.
