I love reading books from this author and look out for them. This one is no exception to the enjoyment factor. What I love best is the depth of character development. Here are people with warts and all so they come over as so natural and real. Jolie is getting her life back together after escaping an abusive relationship, which didn’t help her levels of confidence in herself after her mother was killed by a stepfather in front of her when she was little. Now she is persuaded to try the online dating scene by her cousin and best friend, something that results in hilarious moments, but there is also an undercurrent of evil waiting to pounce.
What a heartfelt and amazing read. This author never ceases to amaze me. I felt every emotion with these characters and cannot wait to delve into the next masterpiece.
Winters Day Kindle Edition
by DM Wolfenden
A superb and emotional story.
Well-written and wonderfully detailed book.
Winters Day is one to add to your collection.
Winters Day by DM Wolfenden will make you laugh, cry, pull your hair out in frustration and make you want to punch the living daylights out of her antagonist. It will engage you with its humour – I dare you to not laugh out loud – and it will bring a lump to your throat with its gritty realism.
Set in modern-day, suburban Britain, these characters have depth, substance and believability. This is not a story – this is a drama and any of us might experience such issues. The author brings her characters to life with wit, heart-felt friendship and an empathy from which it’s impossible to detach.
Jolie Winters has led a troubled life thus far, seeing her mother murdered at the hands of an abusive step-father only then to watch her uncle go to prison for saving her from that monster. Past relationships have seen her drawn to sadistic partners, causing her more mental stress. Her friend and cousin, Debbie, is her saviour and takes it upon herself to find Jolie the love she craves – although Debbie’s choices are not exactly ‘boyfriend’ material and the blind dates she arranges supply much of the humour in this tale.
Jolie is devastated when a life-threatening illness threatens a beloved family member. All her vulnerabilities are exposed, and waiting in the wings is someone ready to take advantage of her again.
This is by no means a fairy tale, but will Jolie find her own Happy Ever After?
This sounds like a great read for contemporary readers of UK based romance.
Dysfunctional family life
Everyday life with two rather comical, self-centered and somewhat immature young females and their dysfunctional families develops into a tale of high emotion when illness strikes.
Primarily dialogue driven, this story is about mundane lives with complex overtones, and takes some time to bed the characters down, amidst everyday events like decorating and internet dating. Comedy and fear are ever present, and you are never sure which will win out.
Jolie finds her time split between manipulative Dave and best friend Debbie, who is sick, and confusion reigns. Throw in domestic violence and a goldfish [literally] and you have a good tale which keeps you reading.
A modern-day love story with all the bumps, twists and turns a true love has to be offer. Set in today’s Britain, Winter’s Day covers all the aspects of love, both the good and the bad, offering a twist of humor from time to time as well. I totally recommend.
