Book One in Laura Landon’s 90-minute-read series SEASONS.Only a poisonous rumor stood between them. Could Lydia McDowell ignore an entire village and trust the shamed Doctor Jarvis? Or would doing so come at the cost of her brother’s life…and her own frozen heart?
Quick and easy read. Very enjoyable.
A Lovely Short Read
Always expect a great read with Laura Landon books. Enjoyed the wintry setting, a bit of a mystery, and a well written romance. A sweet novella with likable characters, that left me wanting more of the Seasons series.
Winter’s Cold Heart is the first novella in Laura Landon’s new series called Seasons. I’ve not read a lot of this author’s books yet, but after reading this one I am a fan! Lydia McDowell’s brother, James, needed a doctor right away after being gored by a bull. She wanted Dr. Weatherby to help her brother, but James insisted she bring Dr. Joshua Jarvis. She had heard the rumors going around in the village when she had come to stay with her brother, regarding Dr. Jarvis’s last two patients possibly being murdered. James didn’t believe the rumors and Lydia thought the patients probably died from a natural cause. As Lydia works beside Dr. Jarvis to help care for her brother, she begins to doubt the rumors. When she learns of his suspensions of the true reason for their death, she becomes intrigued with the mystery. After Lydia was poisoned, they must solve the mystery to prevent anymore deaths. I love how the author developed the characters, they seemed so real and you could feel the anguish that Dr. Jarvis felt over the death of his patients. It was a short read but was well written and the plot was good. I do wish that the author could have extended the ending a little to give the reader more of a glimpse of their future and how James’s injury turns out. Overall this was a great novella and I can’t wait for the next book.

My review:
Will a woman let gossips empoison her view of the kind doctor who tends to her brother…
Even if I have a few books by Mrs Laura Landon, I confess I neglected them and after reading this novella, I see the errors of my way.
For a short read, it was filed with everything needed for a great story.
The writing is engaging, the characters are given layers, and the plot has the right dose of twists and turns.
Lydia has against her own judgement agreed to her brother’s plea to fetch the doctor suspected of being responsible of suspicious deaths. She never expected to be instantly drawn to him, and even if she doubts him at first, he soon proves he is a caring man devoted to his patient.
But what of the rumors.
Joshua had be caught off guard when two of his patients died quite abruptly, since hearsay blames him. Why he even more surprised when a woman stubbles at his doorstep. He is ready to send her back, but her stubbornness intrigues him and he follows her.
From there, they get to learn one another and by small gestures and long talks, Lydia sees the wrong of listening without hindsight and Joshua slowly wins her trust. It will be a bumpy road as it follows the state of health of her brother and some added twists.
In all, a lovely sweet read of seing past the easy tidbits and looking for the truth.
5 stars
I was provided an advance copy by the author, and preordered my own.

Wow, not what I expected! I thought this book was just a romance but it was so much more. It is the story of Lydia, who is staying with her brother James. When James is gored by a bull he sends Lydia for the new town doctor, Joshua Jarvis. She is unsure because he has already had his only two patients die. This is a short read but it packs a wallop! There is mystery, romance, drama, and an underlying theme of honor throughout the book. I just couldn’t put it down. I absolutely loved this book!
