Having served in the winter warfare Special Forces unit, I found his descriptions of action in the blizzard fascinating. As always, CJ Box delivers an excellent adventure.
Being from a MN Park Rangers background, I find all in this series realistic, with wonderful characters and superb storylines!
C.J. Box’s Joe Pickett is a great series set in Wyoming. Interesting “modern western” mysteries.
Fun to read!
I love CJ Box. The prose is direct and easy to read. Haunting and impossible to put down!
I love CJ Box!! If you want to read a great series this is for you. You’ll love the characters and the storylines too.
Another home run by C. J. Box
C. J. Box IS FINE WRITER iNTERESTING CHARACTERS AND PLOTS
This series just keeps getting better and better. I am so attached to Joe Pickett that I have to force myself to read other things; when I finish one, I often just want to move right into the next. It is, however, annoying that there is always a couple of chapters for the next installment in the series immediately following the book I’m reading on my Kindle. I always skip these because I hate to start something that I’m not going to continue right away. Also, I’d rather the book I’m reading be longer instead of using multiple pages (that I paid for, incidentally!) to show chapters of a book I haven’t bought or planned to read yet. Note to Kindle: Don’t do that!
This outing takes place in Twelve Sleep during a particularly hard Wyoming winter. It reminded me of one of my favorites: Winter Prey, an old Lucas Davenport outing by John Sandford (Aside: you should read it!!), which took place in Wisconsin, I think. Anyway, our hero here, Game Warden Joe Pickett, always too honest for his own good, ends up making a pretty good friend this time, which I really liked. There are references to Waco and other Federal screw-ups, which made the issues this time feel even more real. The enemies, however, are plentiful and very evil. The local politics in this series is true to life, hateful, and so depressing. A tragedy at the end had me in horrified tears. C.J. Box pulls no punches. I can’t stop thinking about it! Again, if you decide to read this series, be sure to start with #1, Open Season.
Not quite as good as some others from this series.
Another Pickett adventure worth reading.
The third entry in the Joe Pickett series is awesome for sure a very entertaining read with action to the max and twists and turns with sufficient plot to make it an excellent read. Pickett continues to show that integrity and right can always work out. I highly recommend this book to all action readers although best if read in series order to set sequence of life.
I can’t get enough of this kind of book.
Another quality effort in this captivating series. Characters bring you into their lives with real life conflict and situations. Enjoyable read.
Great author
C J Box is one of my favorite authors. His characters are interesting and I enjoy his books. It’s always hard waiting for the next book.
I loved this book. This is the second C.J. Box book I’ve read and my first Joe Pickett. Mr. Box develops wonderful characters who move realistically through the wonderfully described Wyoming landscape.
Always love CJ Box as he weaves ano tale of a hero of the great outdoors. Puts me there in a warm, comforting way as I travel along from the comfort of my sofa.
Worth 10 stars!
Have enjoyed all of C J Box novels
