Instant National Bestseller Gather under the mistletoe for another round of caroling with the Quinn family in this heartwarming third addition to Elin Hilderbrand’s bestselling Winter Street series. Some of the stormy weather of the past few seasons seems to have finally lifted for the Quinns. After a year apart, and an ill-fated affair with the Winter Street Inn’s old Santa Claus, Mitzi has … Street Inn’s old Santa Claus, Mitzi has returned to rule the roost; Patrick is about to be released from prison; Kevin has a successful new business and is finally ready to tie the knot with Isabelle; and best of all, there’s hopeful news about Bart, who has been captured by enemy forces in Afghanistan.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t a few dark clouds on the horizon. Kelley has recently survived a health scare; Jennifer can’t quite shake her addiction to the drugs she used as a crutch while Patrick was in jail; and Ava still can’t decide between the two lovers that she’s been juggling with limited success. However, if there’s one holiday that brings the Quinn family together to give thanks for the good times, it’s Christmas. And this year promises to be a celebration unlike any other as the Quinns prepare to host Kevin and Isabelle’s wedding at the inn. But as the special day approaches, a historic once-in-a-century blizzard bears down on Nantucket, threatening to keep the Quinns away from the place–and the people–they love most. Before the snow clears, the Quinns will have to survive enough upheavals to send anyone running for the spiked eggnog, in this touching novel that proves that when the holidays roll around, you can always go home again.

I just finished this series up this week. This is #3 of 3. I enjoyed all 3 books. The characters are very real and the story is full of love and heartache. Very positive and makes you realize that people make mistakes and they can bounce back from them. That life is not always bunnies and unicorns. The real joy of family and friends who love and support you is a beautiful thing. Thanks Elin Hilderbrand for a great series.
I’m glad this was a good year for the Quinns because I don’t think I could have made it through the books where all the really bad stuff happened. These people need to be in a soap opera! There seemed to be a lot of place-name dropping for Nantucket and New York. I guess it helps set the scene, but I could have done without it. The story was still entertaining, and I liked the first person point of view better than I thought I would at the beginning.
This is the third book in the series. Make sure you start with book one. The books follow a family and the trials and tribulations as well as the joys they go through. Very good.
This delivered exactly what I expected: some personal and family drama, some romance, some Christmas “flavor.” A light-ish, easy read with plenty of characters to give the story life, and a steady change in perspectives throughout to make the story full.
What I liked about “Winter Storm”s:
It made me curious – 1. I am originally from New England, so I am familiar with many of the location-names being tossed about: the Cape, Martha’s Vineyard, Block Island, Nantucket. 2. I recently started a cozy mystery series that also takes place in Nantucket, and I started to recognize common locations popping up. Between the two, I felt inspired to pull up a map and actually give myself a visual. Romance fiction and cozy mysteries aren’t the first genres from which one expects to walk away with new knowledge, so I don’t turn the pages expecting more than entertainment, but I wholly embrace any opportunity to plant some new information in my brain.
Seeing the Quinns beyond just Christmas – I thoroughly enjoyed spending a whole year with this mixed-up family.
What I didn’t care for:
Politics, ugh. – It was brief, so not a deal-breaker for me, but it’s no secret that I don’t care for politics to appear in my fiction unless it is pertinent to the actual plot — and then only if it is handled exceptionally well (ie. not like someone’s social media rant) — and the current climate being what it is, I was especially turned off.
Norah – Her part of the story just seemed odd and took some abrupt, unexpected directions.
There was not much in this book that failed to meet the expectations I had, based on the first two books in the series. While there are some threads left dangling (which I assume will be addressed in the next-and-final book in the series?), the conclusion of this one was overall pretty satisfying.
Winter Storms by Elin Hilderbrand was supposed to be the final book of the Winter series, but it actually ended up being second to last. This does not mean it is any less emotional or funny than the other books though, and personally I felt it ended in a bit of a cliffhanger, so I was happy that it wasn’t the end! This book actually starts in the spring, so it isn’t just focused on Christmastime, and I really loved that it dug deeper into some of the character’s lives. The Quinns are now one of my favorite fictional families and I have become so attached to them through this series. Winter Storms is funny and heartwarming, but like the other books in the series, incredibly emotional as well.
There is some romance in this one, but I think the main focus is really just on the character’s individual lives and the romance takes a bit of a backseat to that. However, there are definitely still romance aspects and when they are there, they warm your heart and also make you gasp. There’s still family drama because how would this book be complete without it, but I thought it was a little tamer than in the first two. This is the perfect series to read around the holidays, and I highly recommend reading them in order. I did the audio and thought Erin Bennett did a great job with the series.
WINTER STORMS is the conclusion to Elin Hilderbrand’s Winter Street trilogy. In WINTER STREET and WINTER STROLL, the first two installments, we find the Quinn family trying to get through their days as best they can due to their dysfunction, humor, drama, jealousy, romance and compassion. In this final volume, Hilderbrand masterfully sorts out their dilemmas in a fashion whereby the reader feels good about how they’ve solved their issues.
Kelley and Mitzi are back together after a year apart due to her illicit affair with the Winter Street Inn’s Santa Claus. It’s been a tough year for both since their son, Bart, went MIA in Afghanistan. The strain of not knowing if he is dead or alive took its toll. Somehow Mitzi picks herself up, dusts herself off and returns to Kelley. She finds the strength to “rule the roost” when it comes to his health scare and maintaining the inn.
It’s springtime, and love is in the air for Margaret and Drake, Kevin and Isabelle, and Ava, who is trying to sort out her love life juggling two relationships while meeting a third gentleman, Potter. I found Ava to be the most humorous character of all, because of her funny personality and the strange predicament in which she finds herself.
Meanwhile, Patrick and Jennifer are facing their hardships due to Patrick’s incarceration for insider trading activity. The only way she copes is through her drug addiction. She vows that once he gets out, everything will be fine and life will return to its normal state. Hilderbrand made me feel compassionate yet nervous towards Jennifer and her problem.
The Quinns look forward to the upcoming holiday season. Kevin and Isabelle are planning their Christmas Eve wedding. Unfortunately, though, in the midst of these preparations and the family’s uplifting spirits, a powerful Nor’easter is threatening as the wedding date arrives. Nevertheless, the family springs into action as nothing will keep them from celebrating.
We’ve become so used to these characters, and I feel like I know them very well. However, I’d like to know what happens to Kelley regarding his health. We’re left yearning for more knowledge, especially the way that Hilderbrand ends the story in this final book. Is she leaving room for another novel? We don’t know. However, I do like how she meticulously describes her characters and the inviting mental place setting I get in my mind when she describes her beloved Nantucket.
As a whole, I thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy. I thought WINTER STREET was well written and liked this first book the best. I loved the Quinn family’s sagas and the humor that Hilderbrand brought out trying to deal with their day-to-day issues. In WINTER STROLL, she showed us what it’s like living in Nantucket during the holiday season and continued the family’s dysfunction. Now, in WINTER STORMS, she expertly meshes everything together so that peace exists within each character and within the family dynamic.
I’ve always been told that it is better to give than to receive, and this is exactly what Elin Hilderbrand does with her heart and soul. She always amazes me as to how much she gives, and that is the fiber of her being. Hilderbrand currently writes three novels a year, and satisfies her readers knowing they’ll finish one of her books only to have another published a few months down the road. The queen of the romance novel is on top of her game, and she won’t let you down.
Great book
Nice easy read
I love this type of book — interesting characters that grew on me and multiple story lines that kept me reading until the end.
A sweet Christmas story. I love spending the Christmas season with the Quinn family.
Love Elin’s books & this did not disappoint!
