A husband’s secret life, a wife’s new beginning: escape to the Caribbean with #1 New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand. Irene Steele shares her idyllic life in a beautiful Iowa City Victorian house with a husband who loves her to sky-writing, sentimental extremes. But as she rings in the new year one cold and snowy night, everything she thought she knew falls to pieces with a … falls to pieces with a shocking phone call: her beloved husband, away on business, has been killed in a helicopter crash. Before Irene can even process the news, she must first confront the perplexing details of her husband’s death on the distant Caribbean island of St. John.
After Irene and her sons arrive at this faraway paradise, they make yet another shocking discovery: her husband had been living a secret life. As Irene untangles a web of intrigue and deceit, and as she and her sons find themselves drawn into the vibrant island culture, they have to face the truth about their family, and about their own futures.
Rich with the lush beauty of the tropics and the drama, romance, and intrigue only Elin Hilderbrand can deliver, Winter in Paradise is a truly transporting novel, and the exciting start to a new series.

Interesting setting, places I recognized, new characters, a few twists. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
Great book. Can’t wait for the next one!
I enjoy Elin Hilderbrand’s writing, she starts the story quickly to get your curiosity of who did what and how they’re associated to who and what’s going to happen. The only part that I didn’t like, that really upset me was her inaccurate portrayal of Galveston, which happens to be my home town!
I enjoyed this, but minus one star for the cliff hanger ending. I realize that it is the first book of a trilogy, but I don’t like being strong-armed into buying/hunting down sequels to find out “how it ends”
A solid read. Enjoyable on many levels
I really enjoyed reading this book.suspense and character i could care about. Love all of her books. I can’t wait for the next one.
Enjoyed this book because I am familiar with St. John…used to live in the Virgin Islands
I enjoyed Winter in Paradise as I have all of Hildebrand’s book. Although I was disappointed in the cliff-hanger ending.
Good read
unfortunately the sequel will only be available one year from now and this is super frustrating! But it’s going to be worth the wait
Elin NEVER EVER disappoints~mic drop!
Seemed really different than her other novels, but also very good.
I loved the book but what the heck! The ending??? Is there a sequel???? I surely hope so and want it SOON! Love Elin’s novels. Think I’ve read all of them.
This author always tells a sweet and interesting story.
After walking into the library to pick up a reserved audiobook, I happened to see Winter in Paradise displayed on the shelf. I was actually surprised to see it sitting there as I had previously checked on this one in the catalog and there were over 90 holds for it. After hearing so many good things about this book, I grabbed it hoping I could finish it quickly so that I could continue reading my stack of ARC’s. Well, finish it quickly I did as I could not put it down. I read it in a weekend (would have been one day if not for life’s interruptions), and was blown away with the story. It is one filled with mystery, romance, lies, and deceit set in the beautiful island of St. John with a great cast of characters. Elin Hildebrand’s writing and story telling is simply spectacular. After having listened to and loving the Winter series audiobooks last year, I feel I must now read all of her books. This one is really amazing, but the only bad thing is that I now have to wait a year for the next book in the series. It’s going to be SO HARD! I highly recommend this book!
I’ve read Elin’s books, the Identicals and Perfect Couple. Both wonderful reads. But Winter in Paradise is by far her best book yet. It takes you to the Virgin Islands and a cast of unforgettable characters. It’s also the first book in a trilogy. Cannot wait for book 2.
Slow start. But finally picked up. Love author & always read her books.
Winter in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand
Starts out where all are stateside based. There are many and they don’t appear to be connected til you read further.
Wish there was a list of characters at the start-feel lost.
Love the details, very descriptive of the island and the culture…
Like how everyone is connected and you learn over time just how close they are. Liked being on island time and how the tourists adjust.
Love hearing of the different jobs on the island.
Interesting how the two brothers are in love with the same woman-all kinds of love are shown in this story.
Like the mystery of the invisible man-so cool and the pirate-it just fits perfectly.
Petroglifics and trails are treasures and conch shell holds a special place in my heart also as my grandmother gave me one.
Like where the future will find them…love that this is a trilogy, can’t wait to uncover more mysteries and secrets.
Received this review copy from Little, Brown and Company via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.
Winter in Paradise captured my attention completely by the instilled mystery and suspense of the unknown Irene and her son’s find themselves in after the loss of a husband/dad.
