USA TODAY bestselling author Sheila Roberts takes readers on a wintry trip to the harbor in her latest holiday novel… festival called Seaside with Santa.
Jenna is happy to throw herself into planning the event. With all the decorating, preparation and extra reservations at the inn because of the festival—and with two wonderful but very different men hoping to claim more of her time and her heart—Jenna is busy. Busy, but happy. Even with her troublesome ex in the picture, life feels as close to perfect as she’s ever known.
Until the weather turns her festival into a farce. Suddenly Mother Nature is not only raining on Jenna’s parade, the old bat’s trying to blow the floats and their princesses out to sea. Soon everyone is without power and the road out of town is blocked. And Jenna has a full motel.
After the generator conks out, she’s not so sure she and her guests will make it through to the New Year in one piece. But with a little pulling together and a lot of holiday spirit, everyone might find that life—and Christmas—is always good at the beach.

This is the second book in the Moonlight Harbor Series. In Welcome to Moonlight Harbor, we meet Jenna Jones, a 40 yo divorced Massage Therapist who moves to Moonlight Harbor with her daughter, Sabrina. The resistant 14 year old would prefer to live with her father but he is living in his parents’ basement with his girlfriend, Aurora. Damien Petit, the ex-husband, barely makes a living as an artist and content to live off of support payments from Jenna.
The move to Moonlight Harbor was encouraged by Jenna’s Aunt Edie Patterson, who has been struggling to keep the family owned Driftwood Inn afloat. Since her husband Ralph passed away, it’s just been her and Jolly Roger, the parrot and Pete Long, the lazy handyman.
With hard work and help from the community, they are able to save the Driftwood Inn from being sold. Jenna has an idea to bring in revenue for the tourist town during the slow winter months. In spite of the naysayers, she convinces a group from the town council to support her mission.
The ever optimistic Jenna enlists the help of Seth Waters who is still living at the Inn as he builds his mold treatment business. Sabrina begins to feel more comfortable and eventually develops a relationship with Tristan, a senior at her high school. Meanwhile, the 84 year old Edie Patterson can usually be found in the kitchen making delicious dinners and baked goods for everyone.
There are many challenges facing Jenna and the town as they prepare for the first Seaside with Santa event. They advertise through Groupon and eventually fill the reservations for the holiday weekend. There are many characters introduced which complicate the story somewhat with their amusing, interesting histories. It almost felt distracting and squeezed in between the holiday event.

Everything that could go wrong, does go wrong. But, the likeable characters overcome adversity to see the silver linings and learn to get along with each other.
It’s the first winter season for an innkeeper and her teenaged daughter in a small harbor town. Struggling to make ends meet, the innkeeper proposes a holiday festival to bring tourism into the community. Everyone is feeling optimistic about the event, but what they didn’t plan on, was having Mother Nature blow in. I love the story and charm of this harbor town and its inhabitants.
How do you fill rooms and drum up business during the holidays? You host a Seaside with Santa Festival and offer a deal on Groupon. Now that the Driftwood Inn is fully booked and all the preparations for the festival are finished, will a Winter Storm ruin everything? It definitely brings some challenges with it but when everyone in Moonlight Harbor bands together, it may just turn out to be an unforgettable adventure that leads to something new.
Sheila Roberts has gotten her Moonlight Harbor series off to a great start with the first two, Welcome to Moonlight Harbor and now, Winter at the Beach. What’s not to love about a beach setting? You feel like you’re there and no sand on your feet to bring in the house! I’m enjoying getting to know the characters and feeling like they are friends. Each one brings a different element and viewpoint to the story.
Summertime at the beach is very profitable for the Moonlight Harbor entrepreneurs and community, but winter is a different story. Jenna Jones runs the Driftwood Inn at the beach but there’s hardly anyone booking rooms during the winter season. How is she and her aunt going to pay the bills with no money coming in! As a member of the Chamber of Commerce she comes up with the idea of a winter festival to bring in crowds like the one held in Icicle Falls. What could possibly go wrong? Can we say lots of things?
Sheila Roberts never disappoints. Each one she’s written is different and very entertaining with enough humor and romance to keep me interested. You can’t go wrong with any of her novels, especially this one! I’m looking forward to the next one as well.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.
