An interesting book. The Duke certainly was a rake yet he cared about his family and people he didn’t really know. I felt sorry for Esther to have had such a unfaithful fiancee at the beginning but it all worked out. I enjoyed it however there are sex scenes described in detail. I also found it hard to believe that a woman who had preserved her virginity for so long would suddenly give in before marriage during that time period.
I absolutely loved it!
You really don’t know how things will eventually work out with this couple, but I think we all want to believe that the right person brings out the best in us. Sad but lovely story. I wish Esther had not been so shy. Not sure how that would have changed things.
a look at people who contemplate suicide

He had sewn his wild oats, and he was ready to accept responsibility of being a Lord. He was great with his younger sister and brothers. I was mannerly and caring with Esther. She became more confident because of him, and I enjoyed their conversations. This is a great historical romance.
Great regency romance!
The plot and storyline are good. However, the author’s writing style is bothersome and keeps jarring my sensibilities. Syntax errors, as well as phraseology that is inconsistent with the period are the most concerning. A good editor would fix these without negatively impacting the plot, and would raise it another star, in my opinion.
I appreciate that they both have something ugly plaguing them. I enjoyed this one.
I real didn’t like this book. The blurb made it sound interesting but the book was rubbish!
Esther and Stefan’s story was heartfelt and show that revenge only hurts the person seeking it. Wonderful story.
Lots of typos. And a disjointed writing style. Reads like a rough draft.
Just what I needed. A light read wth super characters.
A bit too long and not very well written, which is a shame because the story is good.
Too many Dukes.
Note to historical romance authors: not everyone needs to be a Duke or a Duke’s daughter. I don’t think there are as many Dukes in England as there are in this book. Like some spices, to be used sparingly.
Anachronisms everywhere.
The anachronisms flew right and left. I doubt many debutantes in Regency England called the Duke with a bad rep with the ladies, “bad news”. It sounded like something out of Goodfellas.
He would be called something more like catch of the year. Then there is our weepy heroine’s fiancee excusing his bad behavior in the garden with another woman because his fiancee wouldn’t put out. This is the same girl he grew up with as fast family friends, but now treats like dirt? I could have bought it if it was an arranged marriage but not someone you’ve been friends with all your life. She, of course, takes the brunt of the broken engagement where everyone assumes she did something wrong. She’s too busy moping to correct the mistaken assumption.
If you are going to write a historical romance or novel, you have to do more than just say it’s written in whatever year. On top of that, the heroine is dressed in what looks like a Victorian dress on the cover.
Heroine
The heroine. She’s the biggest wet blanket ever. She cries about her fiancee cheating on her more because he broke off the engagement then because he is a gross, underhanded, taunting cheater. Hey, what’s not to love.
When the Hero, another Duke – the Duke of York no less, offers to be a pretend suitor to help her get back the cheater she jumps on it so she can get nasty Nicholas back.
Hero is a rake?
The hero has a bad rep and is supposed to be a soulless evil and devious creature according to the blurb, his mother, the Ton, the cryer’s best friend, etc but all I saw was a soon to be ex-rake lose some brain cells as he falls for the cryer. He’s not even mischievous.
The cryer gets the cheater back, but then changes her mind and ugh.
Could get past chapter 4. Not well written. The heroine was basically a doormat with no coherent thoughts in her head and the hero was a sex crazed narcissistic idiot
A page turner, as in I skimmed through the painful dialog, the errors in grammar and particularly the historical inaccuracies for the period.
– Women rode side saddle and needed assistance when mounting and dismounting. Esther rides her horse, solo, on her daily unchaperoned visits to the orphanage.
Here are a few awkward snippets:
“. . . he retrieved a little hourglass from the pocket of his coat” and from that he could tell it was past noon. Perhaps with a sundial or timepiece, but not an hourglass.
“Esther stared down, her heartbeat hitting hard.”
“Sheen, Darling, you look sheen.”
“A sheen of sweat beads rolled down his temple”
“I will try to catch the sheens as they fall from your cheeks.”
“And I cannot help but marvel at the light in which your joy sheds, darling.
Perhaps she meant to use “lash out” rather than to “lush out in the process?”
Esther was pathetic and uncertain. Her reputation should be in tatters giving her courtship of the month revolving door, and if servants do talk, Stefan being in her room (and then staying the night) ought to make for a town crier’s shouts. The hero’s reason for wanting to save her and his heart of gold under the guise of a jade were lovely, but not enough to salvage a long, boring tale.
I made it to the end, but I don’t think of it as an accomplishment.
I just finished reading Ella Edon’s book Winning the Heart of the Mischievous Duke.
I loved it.. my heart broke when Esther found her beau was with another.. I felt Esther’s pain and anguish.
Then the Handsome Roguish Duke Of York popped into her life. He saved her and healed her broken heart.
I loved how they met .. there story is one of a kind.
I felt Esther’s sadness and happiness as if I were in the story myself. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
loved this book the characters are fabulous and the more books you read the more you get to know Stephan and Easters story is just great she has her heartbroken and He helps her and falls in love with her too after swearing off love looking forward to more thanks x
It never ceases to amaze me the different ways a romance can be written. Ella Edon has accomplished just that, an amazing story about the complications, tribulations, heartache, internal warring, mixed emotions, confused feelings and the one desire, to be happy. This is a deep look at a three-way relationship. What I loved about it was how each character was psychologically and emotionally detailed from the outward facade to the inner person. This is a page turner and so realistic. It was so easy to relate to each of the characters. It is a beautiful story brilliantly written and filled with angst, fear and true love. This is a must read. I highly recommend it.
