I was so waiting for Jewel and Heath’s story. Jewel was such a scrapper in all the other books, and I thoroughly enjoyed her grit! I didn’t know as much about Heath, except his love of music and he was a Loveland.
This definitely gives you details of both main characters, how their pasts formed them and what they’re made of now. Emotions run front and center with some surprising turn of events and soul searching.
I enjoyed the appearances of all the Cade’s and Loveland’s throughout this journey, which could be a joyous occasion or Not so much, lol, and did keep things very interesting.
A good read that can stand alone, but is a part of a series that is really worth reading for the whole background of Cora’s Tear that caused a 130 year old feud. There’s more to come which I also look forward to.
I won (Squeee) a Signed ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Winning the Cowboy’s Heart is an excellent story, as is the whole Rocky Mountain Cowboys series. It’s well written, highly entertaining, almost impossible to put down, engages the emotions, and is clean. Each story stands alone, but I recommend reading the whole series for the most benefit. Whichever book I’m reading at the time seems like my favorite, but there’s something special about Heath and Jewel’s story.
Karen Rock has created a memorable cast of characters in the Cade and Loveland families – two families who work hard, care about each other and the community, but are enemies because of a long-standing feud. That enmity weakened ever so slightly with the marriage of two senior family members in a previous story, then a little more when the feud’s origins proved false, but still remained firmly in place when Jewel Cade began helping the Lovelands on a cattle drive.
Jewel and Heath are engaging, well developed, and relatable characters. To Heath’s thinking, Jewel “preferred horses to people and was as approachable as a cactus” – but that hard edge soon reveals a softer side. I quickly connected with Heath’s musical ability, but wanted to shake some sense into him for always trying to please others instead of following his heart. In the words of his sister, Sierra, “He’s so used to making others happy and playing the role of knight in shining armor that he doesn’t know how to save himself.”
Woven throughout this story is the off-the-charts chemistry between Heath and Jewel, with some kissing scenes guaranteed to leave you weak at the knees, but there’s also tons of atmosphere, character depth and relational drama. I loved how Jewel and Heath cared for their cattle and learned interesting things from Jewel’s knowledge, such as the benefits of freeze branding in order to reduce stress. And a cattle-drive scene during a rain storm will hold you spellbound.
Both Jewel and Heath had to learn not to let other people control how they felt about themselves, something we can all easily relate to. And the Cade/Loveland feud reminds of how natural it is to hold a grudge, even when the basis for it is proven to be false. I also thought Sofia spoke truth about love when she told Jewel…“Falling in love isn’t really falling, it’s more like two people bending until they meet in the middle.”
I don’t think I’ll ever tire of this series and hope for more stories to come. Highly recommended.
I received a copy of this book through Prism Book Tours. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Winning the Cowboy’s Heart is the fifth in the Rocky Mountain Cowboys series but can also be read as a stand alone novel. This is a story of learning to overcome the past and embrace the future. Jewel is a tough as nails cowgirl who is trying to prove she is the best person to be range boss on the Cade ranch. Heath has always been the peace keeper in the Loveland family and has constantly put what he wants on the back burner. Although the feud is still somewhat going on because of a pending lawsuit, Jewel is recruited to help Heath with the Loveland cattle drive. Jewel has secretly had a crush on Heath for sometime but working together, they both realize their feelings are evolving and they are growing closer together. There are problems standing in their way of becoming a couple, such as Heath is still engaged to his high school sweetheart and the lawsuit is still causing a rift. This is a wonderfully written story that has the characters’ relationship progressing in a realistic, non-hurried fashion. The characters are realistic and their problems and issues are relatable. A truly heartwarming cowboy love story.
I was provided an arc from the publisher but all thoughts and feelings are my own.
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
This is my second book in the Rocky Mountain Cowboys Series and I’ve loved them both. This sweet but slow-going relationship happening between the two makes you want to rush them on! Jewel was a little annoying at times but Heath, not a chance. I loved his character as well as the many other characters in this book.
I love this book. The feuding going on reminds me of the Andy Griffith show and the episode about the Hatfield’s and McCoys and their feud. And it ended up no one knew why the Cade and the Loveland couldn’t get along in the beginning. But I think Jewel Heath and their relationship had a lot to do with healing the families! There’s not a lot to say about this book without giving a lot of it away. But I will say that I encourage each of you to Check out this clean romance for yourself!

It’s like coming home again! Every time I open the latest book in Karen Rock’s Rocky Mountain Cowboy’s series, it’s like being among family. The Cades have been warming out hearts for awhile now, and in the last couple of books, we’re getting to know and love the Lovelands as well. Jewel and Heath are a joy to watch as they set out on that journey to forever. I loved the complexity of their situation, and getting to catch up with news from how our favorite past couples are doing. Great characters, compelling drama and a sweet happily ever after … loved Jewel & Heath!
Jewel Cade doesn’t want much in life. She wants the title of Range Boss on her family ranch, and she wants Heath Loveland! Two seemingly impossible dreams. Getting her brother James to give up one iota of control is looking pretty unlikely, and the fact that she’s crushing on the enemy isn’t going to endear her to the family.
Heath has the world set out in front of him, but isn’t so sure anymore if he’s doing the things he does because he wants to or because it’s easier than rocking the boat by admitting he wants something different. He still carries the scars of the world in his heart from hard times with his Mama, but one day soon he’s going to have to pull himself out from under all of that baggage to let himself have the life he secretly dreams of.
This story was really fun to read! I enjoyed the characters, family dynamics and reading about daily life on the ranch. I can’t wait to read more books in this “Rocky Mountain Cowboys” series!
I liked the main character Jewel and her determination to be a strong and smart woman in a “mans world” of ranching. She was a great character to read about!
The family dynamics between the two families (Lovelands and Cades) are strained due to their ancestors choices years ago, but as the story progresses, both families try to reconcile and make things work. Highly recommend this book and series-it’s alot of fun to read!
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
You have no idea how I almost emailed Ms. Rock in regards to this book. I was upset, wanted to seriously slap a character or two in the book and generally just at my wit’s end while reading it. I knew that I should trust Ms. Rock and her storytelling and I eventually put the book down and didn’t read it for a day. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t because I didn’t like the story, I did but some of the things that the characters did were just…just…I don’t know to describe it to you.
Being mad at Jewel for the first 5 chapters of the book would be an understatement. I almost gave up on her. It wasn’t until Sierra got a hold of her that she began to grow on me. I was introduced to Jewel at the beginning of the series and I liked her then but she is one tough nut to crack. On one hand, she had some hard misconceptions about her father that she has had to deal with her whole life, losing the one brother, Jesse, still hits her hard and then dealing with her older brother James and is the unwillingness to even try to change and see things from other people’s point of view is a bitter pill to swallow. Again, once she and Sierra hook up and start shaking things up, do I actually like her again.
Heath, oh my Heath. He is probably my favorite cowboy next to Cole. Speaking of which, I have to admit that I was confused with what was going on with Cole in this book because I forgot that his book coincides with Jewel’s. There were parts of the book that my heart sank because I thought what the heck? That didn’t happen to him and Kaitlynn, right? Then the lightbulb came on and it made sense in the end. I swear I’m not blonde. I’m fully gray-headed now and I was a brunette before. LOL! Heath, in my opinion, is the forgotten person on both sides of the family. No one really expects much from him except to sing and that is sad. I learned a lot from him in the book and about him. Talk about a mess with his mother. But what really sets him apart from both sides of the family is his willingness to really listen to other people. The feud isn’t personal anymore. He truly believes that everyone should just move on and act like adults. Sad thing is that no one but Jewel will listen.
Their romance is a slow build and don’t worry about them being step-siblings. It is not weird and Ms. Rock does a great job with that aspect of their relationship. You just keep rooting for Heath and Jewel to finally see what is right in front of them. True love, everlasting love and respect from each other that haven’t gotten a lot of from their families. Yes, you will learn just how much the Cades and Lovelands really didn’t “see” Heath and Jewel from who and what they are as people.
One of the best things in the book is when James (!!!!!) finally, yes finally has to admit something to both Jewel and Heath and to both families. I’m sorry Ms. Rock but I waited a long time for that. Sophia said it best though but I won’t spoil it and she just solidified why I fell in love with her from the beginning.
Okay, I still haven’t told you why I loved the book. Simple. Ms. Rock wrote it and I love the Cades and Lovelands, warts and all. With this story, my emotions and reactions were all over the place and I love her for it. She made me stop and think about it. I’m writing this review the night before its due and I finished the book over a week ago. Yes, I’m still thinking about it and my emotions are still strong.
Of course, this is a Heartwarming book, so I won’t repeat myself about my love for the line. However, I will tell you that Ms. Rock just plain ROCKS this series. I can’t wait to read the next one and it should be a winner also.
Winning the Cowboys heart
Since I read the first book in the series and then ones after that I have looked forward to Jewel’s story. This book did not disappoint. I did enjoy her story. She is definitely a great ranch hand. Better than some of her brothers.
With being Heath story as well, I just loved his character. He does a lot of singing at the local hangout. Even though he does the singing gigs he is a great worker on the ranch also. So Heath and Jewel end up working together on the ranch. Only one problem, he is already engaged.
I am enjoying this series. They can be read as a stand alone but I recommend the whole series, they are all great.
I received an complimentary copy of the book from Prism book tours. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.
Jewel is a tough, no-nonsense, get it done kind of cowgirl and proud of it! I reckon she could stare down a bull with just half of her spirit and gumption. Jewel keeps her compassion and insecurities on lockdown beneath her brash, tough gal exterior but I love the way her mama encourages her to embrace her whole self.
Heath is literally a handsome singing cowboy, swoony! His greatest fault is his aversion to the word and concept of “no.” Over the years, Heath has become an extreme peacemaker and habitual people-pleaser. Although I admit to wanting to shake him a time or two, he’s just too nice to stay mad at even when he bungles it all up.
This is a great book for readers who enjoy clean romance, big families, ranching, music, and happily ever afters. Although I’m sure the previous books in this series are equally enjoyable, this story can be read independently and I definitely recommend it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
What a great story! This book is part of a series, yet I had no trouble jumping in and understanding some of the backstory between the two main families that was established in previous novels.
I really liked Heath and Jewel and wanted things to work out for them. They had such great chemistry and even as they tried to avoid their attraction to each other, it always ended up pulling them together!
Heath’s inability to cut things off with his longtime girlfriend/fiancée had me shaking my head for a good portion of the book. This woman was so obviously wrong for him and not a nice person! I was glad when Heath finally figured out how to stand up for himself, instead of trying to keep everyone happy.
I really liked this story and hope to read future books in this series.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I, for one, am glad there are so many members of the Cade and Loveland families because I am loving this series by Karen Rock.
In Winning the Cowboy’s Heart, readers get to watch the romance develop between Jewell Cade (the youngest and only female Cade sibling) and Heath Loveland (a cowboy with a soul filled with music). We’ve gotten hints of the attraction through several of the books, and Jewell’s brothers love to tease her about Heath.
So, when Jewell is asked to help out at the Loveland Ranch, she feels obligated. There’s a dedication and passion to her family’s arch nemeses that she’s never noticed before. Spending time with them—and with Heath—makes her question the feud their families have had for more than a century.
Both Jewell and Cade operate with misconceptions. Often to his detriment, Heath is a people pleaser. Instead of grabbing hold of what he wants, he aspires to make others happy. Jewell is out to prove herself to her brothers, her deceased father, and the world. To hide her softer side, she puts on a rough and tough cowgirl persona, but she has dreams.
With the pull of attraction getting stronger between Heath and Jewell, a looming lawsuit between the families, and discovering what’s most important in their lives, Karen Rock gives readers another thoroughly enjoyable and fulfilling story. This one is the best in the series yet!

Winning the Cowboy’s Heart is the newest and fifth release from Karen Rock’s Rocky Mountain Cowboys series. I have read and enjoyed a few others in the series and this one does not disappoint. Jewell wants to prove that she is the best to be the range boss at the Cade Ranch. Before doing so, she has to go on a cattle drive through the state of Colorado with Heath. As in, Heath from the family that her family has an ongoing feud with. The two “enemies” have a mutual attraction but have to keep their hearts guarded.
I loved Winning the Cowboy’s Heart. Heath and Jewell were fun together. The chemistry between the two was undeniable. I never knew what would happen with them and had to keep turning the pages to find out.
I am giving Winning the Cowboy’s Heart four and a half stars. I highly recommend it for readers who love a well written, clean and heartwarming romance.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own hones opinion.
