Dragon shifters! At first I was hesitant to read this series because I don’t really care about dragon shifters all that much unless there’s a few in the MC harem already, but a book solely dedicated to dragon shifters. Boy, did G. Bailey prove otherwise, I immediately was hooked after a couple of pages. (I can’t say anything about this book for fear of spoiling the book because I’ve a tendency to do that without ever realizing it.) I’m lucky that I waited this long because I’d just dive into books 2 & 3 with book 1 ending with a cliffhanger.
Loved this book. It was the beginning to a great series. Highly recommend.
So Freaking Good!!!
Action, Drama, Mystery, Fantasy, and slow burn romance! Such a good start to a series. Excited to see what happens next. On to the next! #HappyReading
I was given a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Rarely am I able to finish a book in one sitting, but I simply couldn’t put this one down. Issy is thrust into a world she barely knows, without the comfort of a friend, strangers for family and that internal pull for someone she isn’t supposed to be feeling. The story often changes point-of-view, but unlike many books that use this tactic, it’s only done enough for you to offer further understanding of the drive other characters, not so much to confuse the plot.
I really enjoyed this book. I enjoy the banter, the world the author has created (along with a slightly more casual approach to dragons than I’m used to in PR novels) and the characters written. The main character is strong but uncertain, the guys are flawed but alluring… all of which makes for a great paranormal romance.
And then with that ending… Without spoiling, I will simply say, you’ll be eager to reach for the next book.
I actually had read this book by G Bailey back in 2018 and then listened to it finally recently and I am glad I did. I think its a great addition to G Bailey’s resume and whoever chose the narrators did a fantastic job. Let’s talk about the story first though.
Isola (or Issy) has a lot of pressure put on her with her family history and her current predicament. She is the last ice dragon princess and the supposed only other male ice dragon and her dont work out unfortunately. She gets fire dragon guards and can’t help falling for them little by little. Oh and did I mention there is a curse that means people lose their dragons if fire and ice fall for each other. I did enjoy the background with the curse, but I am still confused by it. I think because I listened to it in stream of reading it. The guys are all pretty gruff and I keep getting their outward appearances confused but i love their different personalities. Also loved all the different nicknames. I was shocked by the ending when I first read through the book, but I know he will redeem himself at some point. This story has tension, action, conniving and scheming, and some death thrown in. Lots of intrigue and loved the parts where she shifts into her dragon and how her dragon communicates.
Now on to the narration. I think that Kale did a phenomenal job. This was my first time hearing him and give him kudos (he has had to do some of the female characters during his chapters. I have listened to Lauren before and she did not disappoint this time either! I loved how Lauren did her different female characters, while trying to emulate the guys personalities when they talk in her chapters. I loved this combo (Lauren and Kale), definitely will continue to have these guys on my watch lists (technically listen -lists?)) hahaha never mind.
100% Recommended, Already listened to book 2 and am on book 3! Hope 4 and 5 gets these boxes sooner!!
I got sucked in to this story as soon as I started reading it. I have already read the next 2 books because I need to know how this series ends. This book is a quick read. Isola has been living with the humans for most of her life. Something happens and she is brought back to the Dragon World. She has to pick up the pieces of her life and move on. With 4 Dragon Guards at her side will she be able to move on with them or will everything fall apart? How will this series end and I am going to find out.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
I have read a few series by G. Bailey, but this one has to be my all time favorite.
Isola is about to take the throne on Dragca but someone is out to kill her and the few ice dragons left. Four personal Dragon Guards are put on her. As they get closer they can’t be together due to a curse her family put on the Dragon Guards.
I was thinking the bad guy was going to be someone else but now that I look back on it, it is clear who it was.
Oh and the lovely cliffhanger, I do enjoy a cliffhanger… NOT!!! But you do know it’s coming because:
1) It’s G. Bailey
2) She puts it in the dedication
I am moving into the second book. Can’t wait to find out what happens.
P.S. I better get an Elias and Thorne showdown. Not some little fight either like a full on beat the shit out of each other till one almost dies showdown.
Wings of Ice: A Reverse Harem Paranormal Romance. (Protected by Dragons Book 1) Kindle Edition
by G. Bailey
I received a complimentary reader’s copy from NetGalley and am leaving a fair and honest review.
G. Bailey is one of my favorite and one of the best, period, writer of Reverse Harem Romances. She has a gift for keeping a story rolling while peppering us with moments of love.
Wings of Ice is no different. Isador, the Ice Dragon Princess of Dragca is dragged home for her own protection after a death of a loved one. There she is given into the care of four Fire Dragon Gaurds who are doomed if they fall in love with her. But her life becomes so important to them at a personal level that they may risk their lives as the know it.
Isador is a strong willed heroine, at times she does fall into the men must save her from her own best intentions. This does take away from her growing into the role of Princess and later Queen.
The family struggles are interesting but I would have liked more time in the actual court.
Our four Heroes are sexy and smart, and they work hard to not be the typical sweep in a save her type of heroes.
Overall, for a romance, it is a slooow burn. As a Reverse Harem is a very, very slow burn! But it is worth it enough for me to already be down with the second and on to the third book in the Protected By Dragons series.
4 stars out of 5

When Isola is met with tragedy and her Father finally returns, she is suddenly dropped into another world she barely remembers. It’s a good thing she has several Dragon Guards to try to keep her safe. She needs to learn who she is all over again while being in constant danger. Not to mention the Fire hot dragons around, distracting her. Excited to read the next installment. Steam 2/10 * Sweetness 8/10 * RH * 1st POV * Cliffhanger
Ok, I’m embarrassed to admit that I saw “Wings of Ice” by G. Bailey and figured that it was a new ice hockey romance by an author I’d liked in other genres previously. Then I saw the cover and realized that’s not even remotely what Wings of Ice (Protected by Dragons, Book 1) is about. Instead we have a really well done reverse harem paranormal romance. I loved accident prone princess Isola Dragice, the star of this novel along with her super powerful (super yummy) dragon guards. Add in a great plot (excel that darnit there’s a cliffhanger!) and the result is one heck of a great book and great series introduction. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises – the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in the Protected by Dragons series (especially as I need to resolve that cliffie).
Isola grew up on Earth with humans along with her dragon mate Jace. They along with her father are the last of the Ice Dragons. Her father comes to her because a rebellion by the fire dragons is occurring and Jace has been killed on the Earth realm. Back home after ten years, Isola is to learn different things so she may take her place as queen. Assigned four guards, she is meant to fulfill a prophecy. As the book starts ending we find her father murdered as well as many guards at the castle. After numerous attempts on her life, we will finally see who is behind the rebellion, the murder attempts, and what is happening. The book ends in a cliffhanger…I cannot wait to read the next book in the series! I received this book as a gift and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Isola only thought she knew what her life was going to be but when there is an attack at the school she attends things change forever. The man she thought she would marry is dead and some sexy guards are taking her home early. This book has some awesome world building, dragons, and enough twists to keep you guessing until you hit the last page wishing there was more. If you like paranormal slow burn RH novels with dragons then you have to try this one. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
In Wings of Alice we meet Isola and her dragon guard. There is a curse, a rebellion, dragons, a tree spirit (I love Bee!) and more. I am not sure how the curse will be broken, but I am looking forward to the adventure! And thankfully book 2 is already out!
